Emma Jones

Emma Lou Jones, 81, of West Memphis, Ark. and formerly of Holcomb, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.

Born June 14, 1921, in Tyre, Miss., a daughter of the late Lucilla Compton and Hettye Elizabeth Cook McAlister, she was a branch manager of 1st Community Bank in Holcomb. and member of Rosewood United Methodist Church in West Memphis.

On Oct. 27, 1946, in Lepanto, Ark., she married Elmer L. Jones who preceded her in death Sept. 9, 1972.

Survivors include two daughter, Elizabeth Kimmons and husband, Clark, of Marion, Ark. and Brenda Howell and husband, Billy, of West Memphis; three sons, Kenneth Jones and wife, Glenna, of Millington, Tenn., Gil Jones and wife, Laverne, of Campbell, Mo. and Mack Jones and wife, Verna, of Malden, Mo.; three sisters, Mamie Iris Clem of Lepanto, Ark., Iva Dell Crawford, of Quitman, Miss. and Birdie Gladney of Albuquerque, N. Mex; one brother, Compton McAlister of Miss.

Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 15, at Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in Landess Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.

Burial in Dunklin County Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Memorials may be made to Rosewood United Methodist Church, 2303 E. Barton, West Memphis, Ark. 72301.

Daniel Parker

Daniel Kevin Parker, 32, of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 13, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Betty Wilson

Betty L. Wilson, 78, of Wardell, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 23, 1924, at Portageville, Mo., she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Grace Marie Carter Worth.

On Aug. 10, 1940, in Caruthersville, Mo. she married Harold Wilson who preceded her in death July 23, 1972.

Survivors include two daughters, Saundra Kentner of Wardell and Vivian Elaine Melton of St. Louis; a brother, Albert Franklin Worth of Flint, Mich; two sisters, Doris Farris of Wardell and Marillian Grace DeRousse of Portageville; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Dewey Worth and a sister, Melba Russell.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 15, at Bradshaw-Osburn Chapel in Wardell with the Rev. Griff Walker officiating.

Burial will be in Wardell Memorial cemetery in Wardell.

Pallbearers are James and Scott Melton, Harold Kentner, Gregg Phillips, Larry Russell and Ronnie Stewart.

Juanita Benson

Juanita Benson, 63, of Kennett, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Kennett.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Kennett.

Charley Branum

Charley Lester Branum, 88, of Kennett, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at St. Bernard Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Kennett with the Rev. Jim Lewis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lulu cemetery in Senath, Mo.

Irene Cox

Irene Cox, 88, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark.

Born June 26, 1914, in St. Francis, Ark., daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Ethel McFarlin Benson, she was a homemaker and a member of the Whitaker General Baptist Church in Campbell.

On Dec. 22, 1933, in Piggott, she married Paul Cox, who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1972. She later married Curtis Bevill on Dec. 16, 1986. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a one sister, Betty Karnes, a twin sister, Lorene Parrent and one brother, Esco Benson.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula Simms, of South Bend, Ind.; one granddaughter, Reneta Elston, of La Porte, Ind.; one grandson, Bill Simms, of Campbell; one great-grandson, Christopher Elston, of La Porte; two step-sons, Gerald Bevill, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Jon "Jack" Bevill, of Campbell and six step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell with the Rev. Lawrence Dackus officiating.

Burial was in the Piggott cemetery.

Dorothy Hesselrode

Dorothy Hesselrode, 78, of Kennett, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Spencer Furby officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lulu cemetery in Senath, Mo.

Nona Hughes

Nona Hughes, 81, of Kennett, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at National HealthCare in Kennett.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Kennett.

Goldie James

Goldie Augustus James, 79, of Gentry, Ark., formerly of Wardell, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at her residence.

Born Jan. 6, 1923, in Advance, Mo., daughter of the late James Edward and Lillie May Holtzclaw Brent, she was a member of the Wardell Pentecostal Church.

On May 25, 1940, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married William Vickers James, who preceded her in death on May 19, 1951. She was also preceded in death by one son, Jerry Alan James; one grandson, Jerry Alan James, Jr.; five brothers, Louie, Raymond, George, Gerald and Billy Brent and one sister, Opal Hester.

Survivors include one daughter, Beth Jefcoat, of Gentry; four grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Stone, William V. James and Kelly R. McHugh, all of Wardell and Angela R. Jefcoat, of Gentry and six great-grandchildren, Erik and Jonathon Camp, Charity and Brianna James and Sierra McHugh, all of Wardell and Michael James, of Springfield, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Wardell Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Johnny Durham officiating.

Burial was in the Wardell Memorial cemetery.

Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home of Wardell was in charge of arrangements.

Myrtice James

Myrtice Mae James, 90, of Rives, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with the Rev. Don Emery officiating.

Manuel Jones

Manuel Jones, 86, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti.

Born May 28, 1916, in Clarksdale, Miss., he was the son of the late Charlie and May Jones.

In 1961, he married Lucille Jones, who preceded him in death on July 23, 1983. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Snook and Freddy Jones.

Survivors include a special friend, Vivereen Harris, of Hayti; three daughters, Mamie Jenkins, of Hayti, Florida Mae Cox, of Caruthersville, Mo. and Nancy Jones, of New York; two sons, Minister lee Ary Williams, of Hayti and Buddy Moore and wife, Sandra, of Milwaukee, Wis.; a great-granddaughter, Bonita Jenkins, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the St. James Word of Faith in Hayti with Pastor Johnny Hood officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Llewellyn Borders, Jr., Lionel and James Dixon, Cedric and Scott Fields, Buddy Moore and Standrique Matlock.

Honorary pallbearers were Minister Lee Ary Williams and Ira Harris.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Hope Matthews

Hope Matthews, 76, of Collierville, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Collierville.

Born March 7, 1926, in Rector, Ark., daughter of the late Harrison Bateman and Zoe Hardin, she was a claims technician with the employment agency.

On Oct. 16, 1943, in Rector, she married Clyde H. Matthews, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two brothers, Maurice Bateman, of Rector and Waukeen Bateman, of Paragould, Ark. and one sister, Glory Golden, of Collierville.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett with Scott Andrews officiating.

Pallbearers were Garvin and Kinley Gatewood, Mark Lawrence and Keith, Ryan and Aaron Bateman.

Memorials may be made to the Wings Cancer Foundation, 100 North Humphreys Blvd., Memphis, Tenn. or Hospice.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Parker

Daniel Kevin Parker, 32, of Malden, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Broseley, Mo.

Born May 12, 1970, in St. Louis, Mo., son of Patricia Ann Kelly Parker, of Malden and the late William Washington Parker, he was a former employee of Loxcreen at Hayti, Mo.

Survivors also include one brother, William Parker, Jr., of Hilsboro, Mo.; one nephew, Dylan Parker, of Hillsboro and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating.

Burial was in the Rosewood cemetery.
