LT. COL. DAVID G. WORKMON SR.
Lt. Col. David G. Workmon Sr., U.S.M.C. retired, 63, of Lee’s Summit died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Friends called from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at the funeral home.

David was born Jan. 26, 1937, in Hammond, Ind.
His family moved to Independence, Mo., when he was an infant; and he grew up there graduating William Chrisman High School.
He earned a bachelor of aviation management degree from Alburn, Ala., and a master of arts degree from Central Michigan University.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp aviator serving for 22 years.
He was always a willing listener to family and friends.
He maintained a good sense of humor and cool head in difficult situations.
His irreplaceable wisdom, helpfulness and story telling will be missed by all who knew him.
His is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Workmon, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Jr. and Terri Workmon, Lee’s Summit, and Eric Workmon, Lee’s Summit; a brother, Harry Workmon, Borger, Texas; three sisters, Loretta Morgan, Lee’s Summit, Shirley Nelson, Independence, and Cynthia Workmon, Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren, Mitchell, Bradley, Garrett and Jacqueline Workmon.

JOAN MARIE HARRISON
Joan Marie Harrison, 76, of Lee’s Summit died from cardiac arrest Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
Joan was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Rawlins, Wyo.
She married Albert R. Harrison on Sept. 5, 1957.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Order of Easter Star Chapter No. 138, New Bloomfield, Mo., and a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Temple Shrine No. 7, Jefferson City, Mo.
Mrs. Harrison a bookkeeper for General Motors and cashier at Jesse Hall of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
She was a member of The Dry Fork Baptist Church of New Bloomfield.
She was a friend to all; she knew no strangers.
She had a never-ending love and faith and walks with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobbie Brenner; her mother and father, Marie L. Farnsworth and Cecil Adam Brenner, Wyoming and Washington; her step-mother, Winnifred Brenner, New Mexico.
She is survived by her husband, Albert R. Harrison, of the home; a daughter, Deborah Harrison, of the home; a son, John C. Boeck, Lee’s Summit; a second daughter, Jody C. Smith, Pleasant Hill; two grandsons, John W. Boeck, Lee’s Summit, and Jamie Brown, Holden; a granddaughter, Georgia Jenkins, Olathe; two great-granddaughters, Jessica Jenkins, Olathe, and Stassi Brown, Holden; and one great-grandson, Gavin Boeck, Lee’s Summit.

RICHARD LANCE KELLEY, JR.
Richard Lance Kelley, Jr., 43, of Belton, Mo., passed away Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Research Medical Center.
Funeral mass is 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at St. Sabina Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Cullen Funeral Home, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers are Wayne West, Bob Muier, Craig Lauderback, Russ Gfeller, Chris Whorton and Chris Kelley.
Richard was a craftsman for Hoechst Marion Roussel.
He is survived by his children, Keith Daniel Kelley, Belton, and Kyle Thomas Kelley and Megan Clair Kelley, Kansas City, Mo.; step-children, Wayne Kenneth West, Belton, and Jennifer Jo West, Overland Park, Kan.; parents, Richard Lance Sr. and Patsy Kelley, Lee’s Summit; brothers, Patrick Kelley, Lee’s Summit, and Chris Kelley, Pleasant Hill; and his fiancé, Therese West.

A. KELLY WILLIAMS
A. Kelly Williams, 83, of Lee’s Summit died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery. Friends called the hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
Kelly was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Appleton City, Mo.
He was a graduate of Appleton City High School in 1933.
He attended Central Methodist College, Fayette, Mo., from 1933 to 1935.
He also attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
On April 3, 1937, he married Mary Sue Robinson, and married for 63 years.
Kelly was a member of the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
Kelly had a long career with the Missouri Public Service Company and other organizations, Kaw Council, Boy Scouts of America, Emporia, Kansas Field Executive.
His work history included several positions with the Missouri Public Service Company including bookkeeper, 1947 to 1949; chief clerk, 1950 to 1952; general auditor, 1952 to 1962; assistant secretary, 1962 to 1965; vice president - accounting and secretary, 1965 to 1971; and vice president-finance and secretary, 1971 to 1981.
Kelly retired June 1, 1981, after 34 years of service.
He was a member of the Lee’s Summit Optimist, past distinguished president and past zone governor; the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce and Kansas City, Raytown and Lee’s Summit Chambers of Commerce; the Missouri Valley Electric Association; Executive Committee; Accounting Division of Edison Electric Institute; former member of the Lee’s Summit Police Board; Tax Executives Institute; the Risk and Insurance Management Society; the Lee’s Summit City Council for eight years; the Board of Directors Community Mental Health Center-South; the Board of Directors-Jackson County United Way; the John Knox Board; and the UMB Bank Board.
His career also included civilian records supervisor, U.S. Air Force, counselor and assistant superintendent for the Missouri Training School for Boys, Boonville.
Kelly was a resident of Lee’s Summit for 44 years.
Kelly’s wife, Sue, was a former Lee’s Summit High School and Warrensburg High School teacher.
His daughter, Toni Horne, is assistant principal at Lee’s Summit North High School.
Kelly’s hobbies included golfing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary A. Williams, Sept. 26, 1990; parents, Oda and Carrie Williams, Appleton City; a sister and brother-in-law, Nevaleen and Frank Erwin, Urich and Lee’s Summit; and a brother-in-law, Frank Renken, Fairway, Kan.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Williams, Lee’s Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, Toni Sue and Jerry Horne, Lee’s Summit; a daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Donna and Paul Trame; six grandchildren and spouse, Todd and Ruth Anne Decker, Overland Park, Kan., Kellee Sue Horne, Brittany Horne, both of Lee’s Summit, Patricia Williams, Edwardsville, Ill., Nichole Williams and Sean Williams, both of Highland, Ill.; a sister, Naomi Renken, Lee’s Summit; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Carol Williams, Sarasota, Fla.

MICHAEL L. JOHNSON
Michael L. Johnson, 52, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2000, in Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Longview Christian Chapel.

Michael was born Aug. 18, 1947, in Polo, Mo.
He is the son of C.L. and Jo Johnson.
Michael graduated Lee’s Summit High School in 1966, and attended Lampson College in Phoenix.
Michael became a Christian at age 15, and a member of the Lee’s Summit Christian Church.
He joined the U.S. Navy the summer following high school, and was stationed in San Diego, Calif.
He served aboard the U.S.S. Horne, and during the Vietnam era.
Michael later moved to Texas and was a member of the U.S. Army.
He then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and retired from Luke Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death by his father, C.L. Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie, of the home; a step-daughter, Tracy Lornes, Montana; a step-grandson, Christopher, Montana; his mother, Jo Johnson, Raytown, Mo.; his sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Michael Dyer; a nephew, John Dyer; a niece, Shawn Dyer and Kent Shaffer; and three great-nephews, Patrick, Matthew and Dalton Shaffer.

JAMES L. SKAGGS
James L. Skaggs, 55, of Peculiar, Mo., formerly of Lee’s Summit, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Langsford Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 12, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Carondelet Hospice.
Jim was a member of several old car clubs and loved to restore old cars at his business of Skaggs Auto Service in Lee’s Summit, which he owned for 16 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and member of the Belton Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Skaggs; two daughters, Michelle Johnson and Connie Wickham; five grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, Ryan, Matthew and Daniel; a sister, Bobbie Shull, Neosho, Mo.; and a brother, Larry Bennett, Kansas City, Mo.
Jim will be greatly missed by other relatives and lots of friends.
