BONNIE TAYLOR
Bonnie Taylor, longtime resident of Salinas, Calif., went to be with the Lord June 14, 2004, at Truman Medical Center, Lee’s Summit.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Healy Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas.
Memorial contributions may be made to People Matter Ministries, 816 N.E. Chestnut Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
Bonnie was born May 24, 1930, in Grand Junction, Colo.
She moved to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1991 and later to Lee’s Summit to be near her daughters and their families.
Bonnie loved her family and especially loved spending time with her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathy (Dan) Erickson, Lee’s Summit, and Becky (Bob) Terry, Phoenix; son, Douglas “Jeff” (Chrissi) Taylor, Salinas; sister, Charlene (Jerry) Ordoyne, Thibodaux, La.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the emergency and ICU doctors, nurses and staff at Truman Medical Center for caring for our mother in her time of greatest need.

MARY E. SMITH
Mary E. Smith, 97, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Foundation Fund or First Presbyterian Church in Lee’s Summit.
Mary was born May 25, 1907, in Saline County, Kan.
She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Lee’s Summit and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Smith; and one son, Jerald Duane Smith.
Mary is survived by her niece, Delores Cameron, Lee’s Summit; two great-nephews, Carl Cameron and Earl Foster; and daughter-in-law, Nina Smith.

RICHARD EARL SIX
Richard Earl Six, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital, from pneumonia after undergoing surgery. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 130 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit; burial in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, 3105 S. Slaughter Road, Grain Valley, Mo.
Richard was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Bettendorf, Iowa.
He was the oldest son of Earl Valentine Six and Gladys Victoria Hansen.
He spent his career in the Air Force and Army, serving during the occupation of Germany and Berlin Airlift, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired a Major in 1970, at Ft. Hood, Texas.
During his service he was a high speed Morse code operator, air policeman, armored infantry soldier, legal clerk, legal advisor, paratrooper, jumpmaster, ski trooper, commander and logistician.
Following retirement from the Army, the family settled in Tempe, Ariz., where he was a food brokerage salesman and account manager.
Later he moved to Durant, Okla., where he worked as a real estate broker, and then on to Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit where he finally retired.
The highlight of his retirement has been his research on the descendants of his sixth great-grandfather, Johann Philip, of Marienfels, Germany.
He organized the first known Six family reunion in 1997 in Winchester, Ill., for all descendants of his third great-grandparents, John and Mary Ann Six, and was the first Illinois Six Family Historian.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Earl; mother, Gladys; sister, Evelyn; and daughter, Marjorie Six.
Survivors include his wife, Nyline (Schwerdtfeger) Six; children, Cathleen Libeer, Joan Purdy, John Six and Kimberly Tatom; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

DORA MARIE RYKEN
Dora Marie Ryken, 91, Independence, died June 23, 2004, at Independence Health Care.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

JAMES R. HELWIG
James R. Helwig, 66, of Lee’s Summit, passed away June 23, 2004, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Speaks Suburban Chapel.
Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, prior to services, at the chapel.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Monday, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo.
James was born June 18, 1938, to James A. and Clara (Wika) Helwig, in South Dakota, where he grew up working on the family farm.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and after serving his tour, entered the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He had owned his own Taco John’s restaurants in Des Moines, Iowa, and Fort Walton Beach, Fla., for 20 years.
He was known by friends and family as the “Polish Prince.”
He was such a free spirit and was always full of laughter.
James loved to tell stories and was often compared to J.R. from “Dallas.”
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shirley Helwig; children, Julie Klahn and son-in-law, Michael, Jill Helwig, David Helwig, and Kimberly Lenox and son-in-law, Mike; and siblings, Harriet Irany, Arlene Hein, Tom Helwig, Ron Helwig and Cindy Helwig.

NORMAN EARL “CHICK” LOGAN
Norman Earl “Chick” Logan, 74, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Lee’s Summit Hospital.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites to be said at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ararat Shrine Temple Children’s Hospital.
Mr. Logan was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Sedalia, Mo., to Joab and Anna Logan.
Following graduation from Smith-Cotton High School, Norman enlisted in the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After returning home, Norman met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Shirley; they were married 51 years.
He owned and operated Lee’s Summit Barber Shop for 47 years until his retirement.
Norman was very involved in his community and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine Temple.
Norman spent his retirement years volunteering at the Ararat Shrine Temple with the Provost security unit, achieving the rank of Major.
He was also a past member of the Ole Care Unit.
He had recently received the rare and high honor of the 100th Crown Jewel of Honor, awarded for volunteer hours.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Joab and Anna (Scott) Logan; brothers, Clifford and Joab Jr.; and sisters, Dora Huffstedler and Mildred Stork.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Dorothy, and a loving father to his daughters, Laura Logan and her step-children, John Cronander and Karen Berning, Shannon Krahenbuhl and husband, Tom, Myra Wooderson and husband, Dale, and Kyla Stoltz and husband, Rob.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher, Blake and Derek Wooderson, Katherine and Patrick Krahenbuhl, and McKenna Stoltz; brother, Chester Logan; sister, Pearl Mergen; two nephews and two nieces; and many other extended family and friends.
Norman was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
He was a man of great character who enjoyed life greatly with a wonderful sense of humor.
He loved listening to Elvis, volunteering and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed.

RILEY H. BALES
Riley H. Bales, 88, Lee’s Summit, died June 16, 2004, at Research Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., June 21, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

CAROL A. BLIXT
Carol A. Blixt, 62, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Our Lady of the Presentation, 130 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the church, with a rosary said at 6 p.m.
Carol was born April 30, 1942, in San Diego, Calif., to Elliott Clement and Helen Dorothy (Gorman) Stockert.
She graduated from St. Francis Catholic High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Presentation, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Larry Stockert; and grandson, Brendan Joseph Blixt.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred J. Blixt; children, Kelly A. Wilson, Lee’s Summit, Kimberly M. Hocott, Denver, Colo., Kevin J. Blixt, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kurt A. Blixt and wife, Brooke, Collinsville, Ill.; sisters, Judith K. Marchant, Fairway, Kan., and Elaine Flood and husband, Jack, St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Elliott Stockert and wife, Margie, Lee’s Summit; brother-in-law, William Blixt, Lee’s Summit; and three grandchildren, Luke Wilson, and twins, Madeline and Andrew Blixt.
Carol leaves many friends and family members who will miss her dearly.

CLIFFORD O. BRATTEN JR.
Clifford O. Bratten Jr., 94, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Village Care Center.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar, Mo.
He was born July 25, 1909, in Peculiar.
Cliff grew up on a farm between Raymore and Peculiar, and maintained his love of farming and gardening throughout his life, even though his career took him in other directions.
A graduate of Raymore High School, Westminster College and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, he enjoyed a career in advertising that spanned 40 years.
He joined the Cook Paint & Varnish Company in 1936, where he served more than 20 years as advertising manager.
He was recognized as a leader in the Kansas City advertising community, serving as an officer and member of the board of governors of the Kansas City Advertising & Sales Executive Club.
He was also a founding member and chairman of the Advertising Round Table, and he was active in the Sertoma Club, Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Parkville Fine Arts Festival, Clay/Platte YMCA, and Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity.
In 1990, he was honored by the Lee’s Summit Meals on Wheels organization for 20 years of dedicated service to citizens in the Lee’s Summit area.
Cliff was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, first as a member of the Parkville Presbyterian Church, and, up to present, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit.
He served as a church Elder and as treasurer of the Kansas City Presbytery.
A devoted family man, he leaves his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary Louise Bratten; three children and their spouses, Clifford and Renate Bratten, Colorado Springs, Colo., Betty and Dennis Raetz, Terre Haute, Ind., and Marilynn and Bill Dalgetty, Vienna, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
