MITCHELL PAUL THOMPSON
Mitchell Paul Thompson, 46, beloved husband, father and son was killed Saturday Sept. 30, 2006 in a tragic motorcycle accident. Mitch was born on May, 10, 1960 to Kay Dubios and Ken Thompson in Alliance, Neb.
He was raised in Ogallala Neb., and graduated high school there. After high school he began an apprenticeship with IBEW in California and earned his certification as a journeyman lineman. Mitch later moved to the Midwest and settled in Lee’s Summit where he worked for Independence Power and Light for seven years.
In 1988, he began working for KCPL where he served as a journeyman lineman for eight months before becoming a supervisor at the Southland service center. Mitch then became the safety and training coordinator; training apprentices on the importance of safety in the electrical field.
Mitch was a lover of music and enjoyed going to Grateful Dead concerts as a young man. He continued his passion later in life, as well as taking his daughters and wife along to many concerts. He loved to turn the stereo up as loud as the neighbors could handle and dance around with his family until he couldn’t dance anymore. Mitch also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and took many cross–county trips with friends to see the country.
Mitch will be missed dearly by his wife, Lela Thompson; two daughters, Alycia and Lindsey Thompson; two step–sons, Dustin Plymell and Paul Berning; mother, Kay McKinney and husband, Bill; father, Ken Thompson and wife, Theresa; brother, Mike Thompson and wife, Liz; sister, Stacie Dunn and husband, Steve; half brothers, Matt and Sean Thompson; and five grandchildren, Alana Shoemaker, Kannon Berning, Lela Berning, Dylan Pylmell and Devin Plymell.
Services will take place on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006 at the Trouser Mouse in Blue Springs, Mo., from 3 to 10 p.m. to celebrate Mitch’s life and accomplishments.

GORDIE CECIL WHITE
Gordie Cecil White, 89, Lee’s Summit, Mo., formerly of Springfield, Mo., passed away at John Knox Village Care Center on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at the funeral home.
Cecil was born on Aug. 21, 1917 in Oxford Ark. The son of Hiram Logan and Bertha Chadwick White and the brother of Ted, Ray and Gladys. Cecil’s parents, brothers and sister preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ila; his sons, Doyle White of Kansas City, Mo., Dean White and his wife, Rhonda, of Lee’s Summit; and daughter, Bonita White and her husband, Gary Johnson, of Austin, Texas. He was also the grandfather of Justin White and his wife, Susan, of St. Charles, Mo., and Lauren and Caroline White of Lee’s Summit.
Cecil served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945 in England, France and Germany. He attended Woods Chapel Church of God in Lee’s Summit.
Cecil had three loves in his life: his family, his homebuilding career and his hobby of raising cattle. To all three loves, he gave his very best. He will be missed.

EDITH V. VINCENT
Edith V. Vincent, 90, of Lee’s Summit formerly of Monett, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee’s Summit.
Edit was born on April 5, 1916 in Davenport Iowa. The daughter of Joseph and Virginia Phelps Creviston. She married C.W. "Bill" Vincent on June 5, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa, he preceded her in death.
Edit was a homemaker and former employee of J.C. Penney and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at the Buchanan Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Crockett officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at the funeral home; interment is at Monett I.O.O.F Cemetery.
She is survived by one son, Bill Vincent and wife, Sue, of Lee’s Summit; three daughters Dee Lathrop and husband, Wayne, Janet Moore and Mary Holland and husband, Steve, all of Lee’s Summit; nine grandchildren; 14 great –grandchildren.

LOIS JOAN BOWNESS
Lois Joan Bowness died on Oct. 21, 2006 after a long illness. Mrs. Bowness was born on Sept. 2, 1926 to Una and Ralph McDaniel of Craig, Mo. She attended Craig schools and Tarkio College. She received her teaching certificate and taught in rural schools before marrying J. Franklin Bowness on March 28, 1947.
They lived near Fairfax, Mo., and in Cameron, Mo., before settling in Lee’s Summit in 1967. She and her husband operated an independent insurance agency in Lee’s Summit until his death in 1984.
Mrs. Bowness continued to work for the agency until her retirement in 1989. Mrs. Bowness will be remembered for her quick wit and vivaciousness, as well as her love of ballroom dancing.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Turner Tyson of Jefferson City, Mo., and Susan and Dana Miller of Lee’s Summit. She also leaves four grandchildren, Jesse Miller, Jason Miller, Leslie Tyson and Laura Tyson.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit; with burial to follow at the Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee’s Summit. Visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Bowness’ memory can be made to St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs or VITAS Hospice.

M. ADAM CARNEY
M. Adam Carney, 23, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on Oct. 14, 2006. Cremation. A memorial service took place at 5 p.m. on Monday Oct. 23, 2006 at the Wallace Funeral Home, 422 N. Lake, Pleasant Hill, Mo.
Adam is survived by his fiancée Renae Taylor and his son Matthew Steven Carney, both of the home; his mother and step father, Margaret and David Dearing of Harrisonville; his bother Mark Carney of Lee’s Summit; his maternal grandparents, Hubert and Alice Conn of Lee’s Summit; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Justin David Carney and a brother, Matthew John Carney.
In lieu of flows family suggest contributions to a fund for Adam’s son, Matthew Steven Carney at United Missouri Bank of Lee’s Summit.

FRANCES M. CARY
Frances M. Cary, 97, passed away on Oct. 18, 2006 at Foxwood Springs Care Center in Raymore, Mo.
Frances was born on March 16, 1909 near Tarnsey Lakes in Jackson County, Mo. She was the last surviving member of the James W. Duncan and Hattie St. Clair Duncan family. She was a loving sister to seven brothers and four sisters.
Frances spent all her life in and around the Lee’s Summit area. Family was always No. 1 in her life she was more concerned with others in the family than herself right up until the end.
Frances loved flowers and won many awards for them over the years and was a member of the Lee’s Summit Flower Association. Frances was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ and attended the Lee’s Summit Chipman Road Church of Christ. She was a long time member of AARP.
She was married to Leonard U. Cary on Sept. 2, 1927 who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Leonard K. Cary, of Vassar, Kan.; a grandson Gregory K. Carey and wife, Becky, of Lee’s Summit, a granddaughter, Sylvia Robin Bailey, of Wilson, N.H.; a great–granddaughter, Angela Stuart, and husband, Monte, of Blue Springs, Mo.; great–grandson, Mathew Cary, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; great–granddaughter, Melissa Fain, and husband, Lincoln, of Hiram, Ga.; great –granddaughter, Kimberly Russell, of Smyma, Ga., and the ones who always brought a smile to her face, her great –great–grandsons Jordan and Seth Stuart of Blue Springs, Mo.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in the Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice.

DOROTHY LOUISE ETHRIDGE
Dorothy Louise Ethridge, 77, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., passed away on Saturday Oct. 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospitals in Blue Springs, Mo.
Dorothy Louise was born in Greenwood, Mo., she was raised there and graduated from the Greenwood High School in 1947. Dorothy had worked as a waitress for several restaurants in Lee’s Summit. Hollywood Cross and the B & M Café in Pleasant Hill for more than 10 years.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006 at Wallace Funeral home, 422 N. Lake, Pleasant Hill, Mo., where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time; burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
She is preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Ann Etheridge, her parents, her husband, two brothers Clyde Paul and Claude Paul, and one sister Patricia Guest.
Survivors include her two sons, Steve Etheridge and his wife, Felisha, and Doug Etheridge and his wife, Sandy, all of Kingsville, Mo.; daughter Karen Hackett of Lee’s Summit; one brother, Kenneth "Sonny" Paul, and his wife, Shirley, of Greenwood, Mo.; eight grandchildren; nine great– grandchildren and many other relatives.
