SHELBYVILLE - Edna Parsons, 88, of Emden, died at approximately 2:16 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbyville. The Rev. Danny Fuller will officiate. Burial will be at Emden Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Parsons was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Emden to Richard James and Myrtle May Carlile Martin.
She was married to W. Glen Parsons on Oct. 17, 1933, in Warren. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenda Swander of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Lynn Miller and Lea Ann McMahon, both of Tulsa; seven great-grandchildren, Maggie, Mary Beth, Sam, Jack and Paige Miller, and Calvert and Frances McMahon, all of Tulsa; four nephews; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Calvert.
Mrs. Parsons was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church northeast of Shelbyville, where she was church pianist. She was a 1931 graduate of Monroe City High School.
Memorials may be made to Emden Cemetery Association.

James LeRoy Gifford
Orange, Texas
June 3, 1942-Jan. 30, 2003
WINFIELD - James LeRoy Gifford, 60, of Orange, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery near Winfield.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gifford was born June 3, 1942, in St. Louis County to George Isaac and Eva Arlene Huitt Gifford.
Survivors include his former wife, Rita Gifford Brandebourg of Winfield; three sons, Robert LeRoy Gifford of Eva Dale, Texas, James David Gifford of Winfield and Brian Keith Gifford of Orange, Texas; three daughters, Rhonda Faye Schulte, Amy Arlene Pyle and Lisa Michelle Walcott, all of Winfield; 13 grandchildren; his mother of Winfield; three brothers, Jerrold Gifford of Winfield, George Gifford of St. Peters and William (Bill) Gifford of St. Louis; and two sisters, Sandra Thoelke of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Peggy Hunt of Winfield.
Mr. Gifford was a union boilermaker who had worked for Brooks Erection in St. Louis and later Serv-Tech in Texas.

Joyce Anna Clark

WINFIELD - Joyce Anna Clark, 77, of Winfield, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Lincoln County Caring Center in Troy.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. The Rev. Gregory Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery near Old Monroe.
Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Decatur, Ill., to Walter and Helen Swisher Johanningmeyer.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Clark and wife, Stephanie, of Winfield; her daughter-in-law, Suelynn Clark of Phoenix; seven grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Stephen and Jennifer Clark, all of Phoenix, and Denise, Jessica, Dennis and Hannah Clark, all of Winfield; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Jean Hart and husband, Jerry, of Clayton.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Johanningmeyer; and one son, Jack Charles Clark, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Clark had been a switchboard operator for AmerenUE. She later lived in Sun City, Ariz., until returning to Missouri in November 2002.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

Billie Hallemeyer
Philadelphia

PALMYRA - Billie F. Hallemeyer, 76, of Philadelphia, Mo., died at 9:58 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Monroe City Manor.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at Philadelphia Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Hallemeyer was born Oct. 2, 1926, in St. Louis to William Henry and Effie Daley Nolte.
She was married to Marvin O. Hallemeyer Sr. on Dec. 22, 1942, in Troy. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara Rhodes of Herman and Diana Massey and husband, Tim, of Sikeston; two sons, Marvin O. (Sonny) Hallemeyer Jr. of Monroe City and Russell Hallemeyer of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Neuner and Wanda Moses.
Mrs. Hallemeyer was a homemaker. She was a Lutheran by faith.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be Roman Chalfant, David Rhodes, David Rhodes II, Dennis Rhodes, Russell Hallemeyer Jr., Douglas Rhodes, Tim Rhodes and Scott Miller.

Dorothy L. Jaynes
New London

HANNIBAL - Dorothy L. Jaynes, 79, of New London, died at 10:53 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Paul Bond will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jaynes was born May 5, 1923, in Hannibal to Lawrence M. and Agnes Ruby Wilmouth Piper.
She was married to Howard W. Jaynes on Feb. 15, 1942, in Hannibal. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Riley of Phoenix, Ariz., Joyce Vahle of New London and Donna Puskar of Quincy; one brother, Richard J. Piper of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one sister, Alta Jane Ruhl of Galesburg, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jaynes was a 1941 graduate of Hannibal High School. She formerly worked for the International Shoe Co. She also worked at White Rose Diner and the Carstarphen and Harvey Law Firm. She was a long-time helper on the farm.
She was a member of Hydesburg United Methodist Church and the Mark Twain Men's Choral Ladies Ensemble. She enjoyed painting and time with her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Luther Manor Nursing Home and/or the Alzheimer's Association.
Pallbearers will be Derek Miller, Wayne Vahle, Mike Riley, James Puskar, Doug Turner and Tim Cookson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Ruhl, Jim Woollen, Andy Woollen, Terry Riley, Joseph Schmits III and Ron Vahle.

Frances Nichols
Columbia
Dec. 2, 1920 - Jan. 30, 2005
COLUMBIA - Frances Nichols, 84, of Columbia, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, at the Harrisburg Cemetery.
Frances was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Holliday, to Ruth and H.G. Brock.
After graduating as valedictorian of Madison High School, she eloped with C.L. (Clidys) Nichols and they were married on Aug. 23, 1941, in Marshall. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Survivors include her sister, Martha Utterback of Hannibal; daughter, Penny Shern and husband, Jack, of Midway; son, Jerry Nichols and wife, Marti, of Boonville; daughter, Marsha Coleman and husband, Danny, of Millersburg; grandchildren, Kim Penton, Kelly Rosenkrans, Kate Porterfield, Matt Nichols, Mike Nichols, Phillip Coleman and Derek Coleman; five great-grandchildren; and many, many friends.
During World War II, Frances accompanied C.L. on stateside Army assignments in Louisiana, Alabama and Illinois, returning to Middle Grove when he was shipped overseas in 1943. After the war they lived briefly in Moberly, Hannibal and New London before moving to Harrisburg to open a trucking business. They moved the business to the Columbia area in 1958, and she completed courses at Kidwell's School of Hairdressing. She opened a beauty shop at their home in Midway in 1963 and served friends and customers there for more than 35 years. She moved to Candlelight Lodge in 2002 after suffering a slight stroke.

Frances E. Sutton
Barry, Ill.

BARRY, Ill. - Frances E. Sutton, 74, of rural Barry, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Barry United Methodist Church. Pastor Nancy Monahan and the Rev. John Furniss will officiate. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.
Mrs. Sutton was born May 10, 1930, to Walter L. and Esther Bocking Schnepf.
She was married to Ira Sutton in 1950, in Pittsfield, Ill. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Walter Sutton and wife, Carrie, of Barry, and their children, Adam, Mathew and Kayla; and David Sutton of Barry and his daughter, Mrs. Nathan (Misty) Blackorby and her daughter, Gabi; one daughter, Mrs. James (Marilyn) Behrensmeyer of Rockford and their two sons, Christopher and Timothy; and three sisters, Virginia Woods, Eleanor Whitlock and Doris Rennecker.
Memorials may be made to the Barry United Methodist Church.

Rev. Gene Nothaker
Eolia
Jan. 8, 1948 - Jan. 30, 2005
EOLIA - The Rev. Gene Nothaker, 57, of Eolia, beheld the glory of the Lord on Sunday Jan. 30, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Living Water Church in Eolia. The Rev. James Nesbit, the Rev. Joel Lamb and the Rev. Ron Allen will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at the church.
Rev. Nothaker was born Jan. 8, 1948, in St. Louis, the son of Gene Gilbert and Willie Garnell Fullington Nothaker.
On July 28, 1968, in Winfield, he married Anna May Overall. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents of Sun City Center, Fla.; one son, Timothy Nothaker and wife, Bethany, of Eolia; one daughter, Lisa McCarthy and husband, Tim, of St. Peters; three grandchildren, Aidan and Liam McCarthy of St. Peters, and Neal Nothaker of Eolia; one sister, Jan Radcliff and husband, Dave, of St. Charles; and aunts, uncle, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.

Opal D. Bowles
Vandalia
June 23, 1915 - Jan. 30, 2005
VANDALIA - Opal D. Bowles, 89, of Vandalia, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Curryville Baptist Church. The Revs. Jerry Gamm and Richard Dismuke will officiate. Burial will be at Curryville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Mrs. Bowles was born June 23, 1915, in rural Curryville to Richard M. and Effie Mae Kendrick Hendrix.
She was married to James Dudley Bowles on Nov. 2, 1935 , in Laddonia. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1993.
Survivors include one son, Charles D. Bowles and wife, Joyce, of Crystal City; one daughter, Beverly S. Young and husband, Kenneth, of Frankford; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Curryville Baptist Church.

Wilma L. Canady
Louisiana
Nov. 19, 1916 - Jan. 30, 2005
LOUISIANA - Wilma L. Canady, 88, of Louisiana, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Maple Grove Lodge Nursing Home in Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Sterne Funeral Home in Louisiana. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.
Ms. Canady was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Louisiana to William L. and Annie Grady Sevier.
Survivors include one niece, Kathleen Fox DeMoss.
Ms. Canady was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Nightingale Chapter No. 117 of Eastern Star.

Henry Knickmeyer Jr.
Elsberry
June 11, 1913 - Jan. 30, 2003
ELSBERRY - Henry Knickmeyer Jr., 89, of Elsberry, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. The Rev. Lloyd Hackbarth will officiate. Burial will be at the Elsberry City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Knickmeyer was born June 11, 1913, in St. Louis to Henry and Bertha Saddle Knickmeyer.
He was married to Minnie Bell Butcher on Oct. 4, 1941, in St. Louis. She preceded him in death Aug. 10, 1988.
Survivors include two sons, James Henry Knickmeyer of Elsberry and Chris Lee Knickmeyer of Dellwood; two sisters, Clara Azerola and husband, Charles, of Florissant, and Esther Decker and husband, Earl, of Blackjack; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Knickmeyer and Ruthie Knickmeyer, both of South County; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Knickmeyer and Raymond Knickmeyer.
