HANNIBAL - Gladys O. Jeffries, 93, of Hannibal, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services Friday at Grand View Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Jeffries was born March 6, 1909, in Nadine to Tom and Della Herron Jones.
She was married to William H. Jeffries on Jan. 8, 1927. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 1986.
Survivors include three sons, William (Don) Jeffries of Palmyra, Danny G. Jeffries of Hannibal and Gary Jeffries of New London; three daughters, Etta Mae Bohon of Montreal, Mo., Jean Rae Hitt of Columbia and Sherry Greenwall of Hannibal; one sister, Mary Torode; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Lake; one sister, Mildred Smashey; and one grandchild, Travis Jeffries.
Mrs. Jeffries was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of the First Christian Church of New London, OATS Committee, RSVP and the New London Senior Citizens.
Memorials may be made to the New London Christian Church, OATS and New London Senior Citizens.
Pallbearers will be Kent Bohon, Mark Bohon, Adam Jeffries, Matt Jeffries, Danny Jeffries Jr. and Gary Jeffries Jr.

Louise Gore
Vandalia
Sept. 15, 1931 - Feb. 11, 2003
VANDALIA - Louise Gore, 71, of rural Vandalia, died at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia. The Revs. Bob Hoehn and Phillip Gore will officiate. Burial will be at the Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Mrs. Gore was born Sept. 15, 1931, in rural Ralls County to Averil W. and Madge Palmer Beshears Sr.
She was married to Lee Gore on Dec. 31, 1950, in Center. He survives.
Other survivors include three children, Melaney Moss of St. Charles and Lisa Gore and Eric Gore, both of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Averil Beshears Jr. of Vandalia; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Gore biggest passion for 37 years was being a homemaker, her family, friends and service to Spencer Creek Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Ralls County Cancer Relay for Life or Patch Program at W.E.R.D.C. of Vandalia.

James M. Burton
Hannibal
July 16, 1929 - Feb. 11, 2003
HANNIBAL - James M. Burton, 73, of Hannibal, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at his home.
There will be no services.
The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Burton was born July 16, 1929, in Dalton to Allen and Ann Brown Burton.
He was married to Burtilla Turner on Jan. 26, 1960, in Dalton. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, James M. Burton Jr. and wife, Carla, of Atlanta, Ga., and Victor R. Burton of Pacific; four daughters, Marsha D. Turner, Tonya D. Burton and a special friend, Reginald Reed, and Mary E. Burton, all of Hannibal; and Cynthia L. Burton and a special friend, David Foster, of Columbia; one sister, Sophia Foster of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; and two brothers.
Mr. Burton was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Master Tank and Welding as a welder. He was a member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55. He was a Baptist by faith.

Robert (Bob) Howard
Elsberry
April 18, 1928 - Feb. 10, 2003
ELSBERRY - Robert Wilson (Bob) Howard, 74, of Elsberry, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. The Rev. Sue Biggerstaff will officiate. Burial will be at Elsberry City Cemetery.
Mr. Howard was born April 18, 1928, in Elsberry to Other Groves and Gertrude Wilson Howard.
He was married to Kathryn Mae Beaver on Nov. 22, 1953, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Kay Silver of St. Peters, and Robin Dameron and husband, Gil, and Rhonda Leverington and husband, Niles, all of Elsberry; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Virginia Eberle of Silex; one stepbrother-in-law, Mike Diester of Gladstone; one sister-in-law, Barbara Howard of Elsberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel Maxine Atkins
Champaign, Ill.
May 31, 1915 - Feb. 11, 2003
SAVOY, Ill. - Hazel Maxine Long Atkins, 87, of Champaign, Ill., died at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign. The Rev. Dr. James Rhea will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Atkins was born May 31, 1915, in Hannibal to Charles Albert and Mary Belle Vaught Long.
She was married to Clinton Paul Atkins on June 7, 1936. He preceded her in death April 22, 2000.
Survivors include three children, Vincent Paul Atkins, Clinton Craig Atkins and Mary Atkins Hassinger, all of Champaign; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
Mrs. Atkins graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1934. She received three degrees in music education from the University of Illinois: a bachelor of science degree in 1942, a master of science degree in 1961 and an ADV degree in 1964. She taught in the Champaign School District from 1959 to 1966. She was the math consultant K-12 for the Unit 4 schools from 1966 to 1968 and the director of the gifted program from 1969 to 1972. She was a visiting professor in math at the University of Illinois. She established and directed the Children's Cultural Center from 1969 to 1971.
Mrs. Atkins was one of the original founders and owners of Vintage Antiques. She was the author of numerous articles, publications and books, the composer of many songs and an accomplished artist. She was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign. She was an active member of Florence Northcott Guild, Chapter AR of the PEO, Sigma Alpha Iota, honorary music fraternity, Mozart Music Club, Tuesday Morning Music Club, National Retired Teachers Association, Fortnightly Club and the Alliance Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Joanell R. Brower
Silex
Sept. 11, 1946 - Feb. 11, 2002
SILEX - Joanell (Jo) Rose Brower, 55, of Silex, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Millwood. Burial will be at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 6 p.m. today at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex.
Mrs. Brower was born Sept. 11, 1946, in New Florence to Michael John and Ruby May Atterberry Mammano.
She was married to William Irwin Brower on Oct. 4, 1971. He preceded her in death July 6, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Chris Brower of Lansing, Mich., and Daniel Brower of Silex; and one sister, Terri Brewer of Kennett.
The family wishes to include as survivors one niece Shannon Ward of Grandin; one nephew, William Crayne of Kennett; one great-niece; and three great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother who died in infancy.
Mrs. Brower lived most of her life in the Silex area. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where she had been a member of the Parish Council and had taught speech at the school for several years. She belonged to several animal organizations, such as NSAL and ASPCA.
Memorials may be made to the Daniel Brower Educational fund, in care of the funeral home.

Gail Schutjer
HANNIBAL - Gail Schutjer, 56, of Hannibal, died at 5:20 p.m. Feb. 13, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Schutjer are pending at Smith Funeral Home.

Geneva W. Dietrich
Clarksville
May 12, 1922 - Feb. 12, 2004
LOUISIANA - Geneva W. Dietrich, 81, of Clarksville, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, in Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dietrich was born May 12, 1922, near Corning, Ark., to Henry and Donna Arnold Wilder.
She was married to Anton Joseph Dietrich on Sept. 23, 1944, in St. Charles. He survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Edward Joseph Dietrich and wife, Ann, of Plano, Texas, Terry Wayne Dietrich and wife, Danelle, of Atlanta, Ga., Thomas William Dietrich and wife, Susan, of Lake St. Louis and James Anton Dietrich and wife, Melissa, of Dalton, Ga.; five brothers, Leroy Wilder of St. Charles, James Wilder of Ballwin, Harold Wilder of Winfield, Danny Wilder of St. Charles and Fred Wilder of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Ruth Ann Luckett of Louisiana; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anna Sloop
MONROE CITY - Anna Sloop, 91, of Monroe City, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services are pending at the Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City.

Elizabeth A. Reese
Warrenton
Nov. 21, 1938 - Feb. 11, 2002
TROY - Elizabeth A. (Liz) Reese, 63, of Warrenton, died at 11:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. The Rev. Dewayne Presson will officiate. Burial will be at Steinhagen Cemetery in Warrenton.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Reese was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Lincoln County to Marion and Katherine M. Shoults Luckett.
She was married to Howard H. Reese on Aug. 7, 1954, in Warrenton. He survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Russell Reese of Hawk Point, Terry Reese of Foley, Randy Reese of St. Peters and Howard Alan Reese of O'Fallon; one brother, Carl Luckett of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Mary Diehl of Harvester; and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Reese had worked as a nurse's aide at Lincoln County Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years and later as a seamstress for the Liebe Co. in Chesterfield where she made emblems for uniforms of high schools, colleges and the St. Louis Cardinals. She attended New Life Center in Warrenton.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.

Robert R. (Bobby) Williams
Hannibal
Aug. 19, 1957 - Feb. 9, 2003
HANNIBAL - Robert R. (Bobby) Williams, 45, of Hannibal, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at his home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Charles Emmett Hale III will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Williams was born Aug. 19, 1957, in Jacksonville, Ill., to Albert Williams Sr. and Wyoma Porter.
He was married to Arletha Mayfield. She survives.
Other survivors include one stepdaughter, Heidi Mayfield of Hannibal; one special aunt, Willetta Turner of Hannibal; four brothers, Albert Williams Jr., Donald Williams and Crawford Williams, all of Hannibal, and Richard Green of Rock Island, Ill.; nine sisters, Helen Green of Quincy, Ill., Karen Williams and Sharon Collier, both of Hannibal, Hazel Brophy of Galesburg, Ill., Wanda Hinton of Peoria, Ill., Charolette Mayfield, Wanda Burrage and Margaret Faison, all of Davenport, Iowa, and Mary Holland of Monroe City; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Williams was well-known and well-liked. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of the Allen Chapel Church.
