Delores Kay (Reitz) Ridgely

June 29, 1939 - June, 28, 2004

LAKE OZARK, Mo. - Delores Kay (Reitz) Ridgely, 64, Lake Ozark, Mo., died Monday, June 28, 2004.

She was born June 29, 1939, in rural Kahoka, Mo., the daughter of Elmer M. and Frances Speer Reitz.

Her father taught her how to be honest, work and appreciate what she worked for, and her mother taught her to love flowers, birds, enjoy cooking and taking care of the family. Her mother survives.

Mrs. Ridgely was devoted to the Lord, family and friends. She was "given new life" at her born-again experience in 1952 by accepting Christ as her savior. She was baptized at First Baptist Church of Kahoka.

She was a 1957 graduate of Kahoka High School and ERTI of Omaha, Neb., as a tele-typist. She attended music and sign language classes at Hannibal-LaGrange College of Hannibal, Mo., and Tennessee Temple Schools of Chattanooga Tenn. In later years, toll painting and computer classes were taken at adult education classes in Macon Mo.

She married Darryl Ridgely on Dec. 7, 1957, at First Baptist Church of Kahoka. They had resided in Harlingen Texas, Williamstown, Mo, Hannibal Mo, Chattanooga, Hutchinson, Kan., McBride, British Columbia, Canada, Kahoka, Shelbina Mo, Macon, and Lake Ozark.

She was a member of Laurie First Baptist Church and had served as organist, pianist and choir director in many of the churches they had served through the years.

To this marriage was born Judith Ann Ridgely, born and deceased on Oct. 11, 1959; a son, David N. Ridgely and wife Debra, grandchildren: Erin, Megan and Joshua Ridgely and Kaitlin Wood and Matthew Wood of Lake Ozark, and Emily Kueker and her husband, Doug, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Winona K. Smith and husband, Art; grandchildren: Adryanna and Ian Smith of Paris, Tenn.; a daughter, Grace E. Ruffy and husband, Frederic; grandchildren: Emalie and Nicholas Ruffy of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter, Deanna S. Winters and husband, Kurt; grandchildren: Trevor and Carissa Winters of Spring Hill Kan.

Other family members include a sister, Marvis Trump and husband, Harold, of Luray, Mo., and their daughter, Marla, and family; a sister, Ronda McWilliams and husband, Kent, of Marion Ill., their children Grant, Graydon and Kentyl and families; a sister-in-law, Louise Ridgely of Williamstown, and daughters, Marvis, Bobbie and Beth and families.

She fought breast, liver and bone cancer for six years.

She was preceded in death by nephew, Mark Trump; brother-in-law, Marvin Ridgely; father Elmer Reitz; and daughter Judith Ann Ridgely.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Providence Baptist Church, Williamstown, with Pastor Mark Lowman officiating.

Interment will be at Providence Church cemetery of Williamstown.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

Memorials are suggested to the Music Departments of the Providence Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Kahoka, the American Cancer Society, or the Gideons.

Betty Jean Whitehead Sedillo

Dec. 21, 1947 - Aug. 16, 2004

MOKANE, Mo. - Betty Jean Whitehead Sedillo, 56, of Mokane, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, in the Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane.

She was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Keokuk, the daughter of Clark and Velma Koontz Whitehead.

She had been married to Robert Watson and they were the parents of a son. She later remarried and her husband preceded her in death.

Local survivors include a brother, Robert Whitehead of Wyaconda, Mo., and sister, Mrs. Eddie (Bonnie) Brewer of Kahoka, Mo.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wyaconda cemetery, with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Joseph Norman Peterson

Oct. 9, 1926 - Aug. 14, 2004

WYACONDA, Mo. - Joseph Norman Peterson, 77, of Wyaconda, Mo., died Saturday evening, Aug. 14, 2004, in his home.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1926, in Clark County, Mo., near Wyaconda, the son of Coleman Oliver and Ola (Goodson) Peterson

He married Ruth Martella Lowenstein on March 7, 1947. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2001. They were the parents of four children: Floyd Wayne Peterson, Darlene Ruth Peterson, Joseph Lee Peterson and Steven Scott Peterson. He was a loving father to his children.

He married Isabel Price on April 21, 2002. She survives.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Tanquier, USS Cumberland Sound, and the USS Pine Island.

After the war he was employed at John Deere in Ankeny, from March 31, 1959, before retiring on Sept. 30, 1987. He was also employed by the Santa Fe Railroad at Baring, Mo., and Electra Metals in Keokuk.

Following retirement, the Petersons moved to Mitchellville and then back to Wyaconda in 1997.

Additional survivors include: his children, Floyd Wayne Peterson and his wife. Mona, Darlene Ruth Peterson, Joseph Lee Peterson and his wife, April, and Steven Scott Peterson; grandchildren, Danny and his wife, Rita, Peterson, Heather and husband, Dan, Knapp, Michelle, Angela and Richard Dove, Nicki and Lou, Jody and Matt, Amber and Allison Peterson; great-grandchildren, Travis Peterson, Haley Mona Knapp, Collin and Chelsea Knapp, and Taylor and Cassie; sisters, Edythe Richards and Doris Jean Patton; sisters-in-law: Betty Fellows and Bev Lowenstein; brothers-in-law, Charles Owen Price and Donald Eugene Price and his wife Delores.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; Ethel Dighton, Patricia Ann Davis, and Arlene Ruth Peterson; a brother, Kenneth Clair Peterson.

Services are at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Wyaconda Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating.

Burial will be in the Wyaconda cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Knox City American Legion Post.

Visitation is after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gerth Funeral Home in Wyaconda, with the family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Wyaconda cemetery or the Wyaconda Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Gerth Funeral Service, Wyaconda chapel.

Gerald L. Denham

Jan. 2, 1928 - Oct. 20, 2004

KAHOKA, Mo. - Gerald L. Denham, 76, of Kahoka, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in his home.

He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Kahoka, the son of Cecil and Alma Gram Denham.

He married Betty J. Dinger on July 7, 1946, in Kahoka. She survives.

Additional local survivors include: a son, Jerry Denham and his wife, Terry, of Kahoka; a brother, Eugene Denham, of Kahoka; and three sisters, Margaret Ranck, Lois Wendling and Eunice Buford, all of Kahoka.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, with the Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating.

Burial will be in the Kahoka cemetery.

Visitation is after 9 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Veva K. Hall

May 3, 1958 - April 7, 2009

REVERE, Mo. - Veva K. Hall, 50, of Revere, Mo., died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Blessing Hospital, in Quincy, Ill., following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on May 3, 1958, in Adair County, Mo., the daughter of L. D. and Bertha Mae Stewart Christy.

She married Ron Hall on Dec. 21, 1990, in Keokuk. He survives.

Additional survivors include: her parents, L.D. and Bertha Mae Christy of Revere; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Grace Hall of Keokuk; three sons, Ryan Shannon and Emily Lowe of Des Moines, Jeremy Hobbs and Darcy Nelson of Mount Pleasant and Tyler Hobbs; a daughter, Kristy Shannon and Chris Brice of Holiday, Fla.; four grandchildren, Starlet and Lamby Shannon and Alex and Cody Brice; a sister, Tena (Mrs. Dale) Gorham of Hartford City, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Brenda Hall of Keokuk; as well as aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

She graduated from Revere High School in 1976. She was employed as a correctional officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison and was on leave due to her deteriorating health. She loved collecting antiques, caring for her flower beds, her grandkids and her dog, Zeus.

There will be no formal services. However, friends are invited to visit with family from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

Memorials are requested to the family.

Nunzio Columbus

Aug. 8, 1909 - Dec. 28, 2004

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Nunzio Columbus, 95, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and formerly of the Wyaconda, Mo., area, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Trisun Nursing Home in Corpus Christi.

He was born on Aug. 8, 1909, in Long Island City, N.Y., the son of Thomas and Domenica Randazzo Columbus.

He was united in marriage to Ellen Isabelle Rayburn on Oct. 31, 1948, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1971.

He had worked as a plumber in Babylon, Long Island City, N.Y., retiring in 1962. He then moved to Wyaconda where he farmed. He worked hard, especially with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his flowerbeds. He loved fishing. He cherished the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include: seven daughters, Mary Chevalier, of Monticello, N.Y., Ann Lewis of Florida, Lena C. Nemec of Corpus Christie, Catherine Lovette of Fort Madison, Isabelle Stevenson of Picayune, Miss., Janet Mae Alva Columbus of Lake Charles, Ga., and Domenica Rose Columbus of Picayune; nine sons, James Columbus of Palm Coast, Fla., Joseph Columbus of Deer Park, L.I., N.Y, Theodore Columbus of Florida, Thomas Columbus of Sebastian, Fla., Albert Columbus of Keokuk, John Columbus of Middle Island, N.Y., Peter Columbus of Margate, Fla., Joseph Columbus of Texas and Samuel Columbus of Naples, Ill.

He also preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Ellen Columbus, and a son, Nunzio Columbus Jr.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty cemetery in rural Williamstown, Mo.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. Saturday, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka.
