Lewis ‘Eddie’ Roberts

Sept. 22, 1925 - June 3, 2009

REVERE, Mo. -- Lewis “Eddie” Roberts, 83, of Revere, Mo., died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in the Clark County Nursing Home, Kahoka, Mo.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1925, in Kahoka, Mo., the son of Felix and Margaret Schmid Roberts.

He was united in marriage to Norma Louise King on July 23, 1947, in Canton, Mo. She survives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home, Kahoka, with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Pastor Ray Gilbert officiating.

Burial will be in the Kahoka cemetery, with military rites.

Visitation is after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Clark County FFA or to Blessing Hospice.

Nelda Boatman

KAHOKA, Mo. – Nelda Eilene Boatman, 74, of Kahoka, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

Nelda was born July 8, 1943, in Memphis, Mo., the daughter of Hollis and Nellie Smith Hyde.

Nelda graduated from Memphis High School.

On Sept. 22, 1967, she was united in marriage to Walter Asie Boatman Jr.

Nelda worked at Henniges in Keokuk for 32 years. She retired from Henniges in 2005. Those who worked with her said she was a hard worker, kind and soft-hearted. When Nelda was not working, she loved following her children in their high school sporting activities and at times was even more competitive in her cheering than her children were in the actual game. Later in life, Nelda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family who she cherished more than life itself. Following retirement, she cared for her twin grandchildren every day of the week for four years and cared for a great-grandchild for a period of time, too. She adored ALL of her grandchildren. Nelda also looked forward to attending the Hyde family reunion yearly in Memphis to visit with her extended family.

Survivors include her husband, Asie of Kahoka; two sons, Stacey (Samantha) Boatman of Wayland, Mo., and Lance (girlfriend Kristy Summers) of Argyle; a daughter, Machelle (Jake) Pezley of Argyle; grandchildren, Tyler Hall (fiancée Magan Dunn) of Quincy, Ill., Alexis Pezley, Jacob “Cash” Pezley and Carlee Pezley, all of Argyle, Joselyn (Tom) Garr of North Carolina, Stacy Boatman of Ottumwa, Abigail (Dan) Boatman of North Liberty, Robert Boatman of Wayland, and Kendra, Kaylynn and Kenton Summers and Kolton Sapp, all of Argyle; great-grandchildren, Nataliee McGee, Aubriee McIntosh and Sophie Taylor; a brother, Leland (Delores) Hyde of Memphis; three sisters, Carol (Don) Bundy of Blue Springs, Mo., Virginia (Fred) Bertram of Gorin, Mo., and Barbara (Norman) Hughes of Kirksville, Mo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Margaret Hyde of Independence, Mo., Kathy Hyde of Conway, Mo., Bob Moore of Keokuk, Roy (Marsha) Boatman of Wyaconda, Mo., Ira Boatman and James (Nancy) Boatman, both of Wayland, William (Debbie) Boatman of Davenport, Kathy (David) James of Kahoka and Rose Boatman of Burlington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; three brothers, Charles, Phil and Delbert Hyde; four sisters, Evelyn Gatlin, Gennie Ridge, Ruth Moore and Mary Drummonds; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Boatman-Ennis; brother-in-law, Elmer Boatman; and a niece, Tammy Moore.

Nelda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and cherished all of her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched and those who had the pleasure of truly getting to know her.

Memorial graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sand cemetery in St. Francisville, Mo., with the Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Northeast Missouri Hospice or Sand cemetery.

Wayne Linnenburger

HANNIBAL, Mo. – Wayne Raymond Linnenburger, 85, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 8:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.

Graveside services with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grand View Burial Park. Pastor Wes Gehrke will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal.

Martha Drake

KAHOKA, Mo. – Martha Ruth Moore Drake, 91, of Kahoka, Mo., passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born on June 7, 1926, in Plymouth, Ill., the sixth of 10 children. Her parents were Guy Samuel and Florence Emma Legere Moore.

She married Donald Francis Drake on Nov. 20, 1944, in Lewistown, Ill. They later divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Eileen (Eldon) Koechle of Lebanon, Ill., and Ann (Roger) Randall of Kahoka; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters, a grandson, a great-grandson, three nephews and a niece.

Martha graduated from Macomb High School in Macomb, Ill. She lived in Keokuk for 20 years before moving to Kahoka in the fall of 2015 to be closer to family. She then moved to the Clark County Nursing Home in early February. She worked at a bakery in Macomb, making homemade pies, and was an amazing cook. She was an avid seamstress and loved making quilts. She enjoyed reading her Bible. Martha was a very genuine lady and loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Grove cemetery in rural Hamilton, Ill., with Pastor Daryl Sherwood officiating.

Memorials have been established for the Hospice of Northeast Missouri, 201 S. Baltimore, Ste. C, Kirksville, MO 63501.

Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis Meyer

TRENTON, Mo. – Lewis Franklin Meyer, 71, of Trenton, Mo., formerly of Keokuk, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Mosaic Life Center in St. Joseph, Mo.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1945, in Robinson, Ill., the son of Earl Adam and Eileen Leona Judy Meyer.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Keokuk; and stepdaughter, Helen Brouwer of Keokuk.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastors John and Marilyn Curtis officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date in Keokuk National cemetery.

Georgia Schilling

TRENTON, Mo. – Georgia Schilling, 73, of Trenton, Mo., passed away at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at her residence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton. Burial will follow in the Catholic cemetery in Trenton.

A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.

Georgia was born Aug. 3, 1943, in Keokuk, the daughter of George and Bessie (Hayden) Schreck.

In 1964, Georgia graduated college as a registered nurse from Dayton, Ohio.

Georgia was united in marriage to Max Schilling on Sept. 25, 1965, in Wayland, Mo. Together they had four children. The family moved to their farm southwest of Trenton in 1976. While raising her family, she continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo., and her master’s degree in education from Truman University.

Georgia worked as a nurse in health care for more than 40 years and touched so many lives. Georgia had a heart of gold. Unbeknownst to her, she was known to her family as St. Georgie. Her faith was very strong. Georgia was never afraid of hard work, whether in her career or at home. Georgia loved traveling and playing with her family. She enjoyed flowers (whenever they were able to grow due to her kids or the cattle tromping on them), wildlife, scenic drives, cards and time spent with her ornery husband Max. She also was a captain in the Army Reserves.

Immediate family members include her sons, Shawn (Lisa), Douglas (Marie) and Kevin Schilling; daughter, Sherry (Joe) Searcy; sister, Kathy Stark; and grandchildren, Maddie, Cole, Sam, Luke, Malachi and Mikayla.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband, and a sister, Barbara Martin.

Anne Martin

KAHOKA, Mo. – Anne Martin, 89, of Kahoka, Mo., died Monday, July 3, 2017, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Mo.

She was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Thayer, the daughter of Herman and Nellie Mildred Walker Garrels.

On Jan. 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leo R. Martin in Kahoka.

He preceded her in death on Friday, March, 13, 1981.

Anne graduated from Revere High School with the Class of 1945 as valedictorian. She attended Northeast Missouri College in Kirksville, Mo.

Leo and Anne farmed for 32 years together in Revere. Besides farming, she was employed with the Clark County Nursing Home and at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison. For a few years, she was a schoolteacher in the surrounding area. For 14 years, she was employed at the Clark County Soil and Water District. She also was employed at Shaffer and Sons Funeral Home in Kahoka.

She was a member of the Revere Community Church until the church dissolved. Recently, she became a member at the Kahoka Methodist Church. She served on the Revere Church Board and the Revere Alumni Board as secretary for many years. She also served as treasurer and advisory board of Revere Community Center and was president of the Delphinium Garden Club.

Anne enjoyed playing the piano without the necessity of reading music. She would bake her famous chocolate chip cookies and cream puffs – without the need of a recipe – which everyone would enjoy. Being on the farm was relaxing to her. This is where she planted her garden and flowers. She loved being with her family and the family get-togethers, especially their Memorial Day picnic. In her opinion, all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are all important, special and precious.

She is survived by her two sons, Edward Martin (Jan) of Kahoka and David Martin (Nancy) of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Ellen A. Ayer (Linley Lipper) of Luray, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother, Joe Garrels of Kahoka; along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean Halferty and her husband Stuart; her son-in-law, Randy Ayer; and her sister-in-law, Mary Garrels.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka. Burial will be in the Revere cemetery.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to the Revere cemetery.

Colleen Elder

KAHOKA, Mo. – Colleen R. Elder, 48, of Kahoka, Mo., died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

She was born Dec. 5, 1968, in Muscatine.

Survivors include her husband, James Elder; and a daughter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, with Pastor Mark Boley officiating.

Burial will be in Chambersburg cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, with the family meeting with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
