Irma Carpenter

MONETT, Mo. - Irma Jean Carpenter, 83, Monett, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at Cox Medical Center South after a short illness.
Mrs. Carpenter was born Feb. 12, 1934, at Stotts City.
She had lived in the Monett area for five years.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
She married Dean Elwin Carpenter in August 1964 at Las Vegas, Nev.
He survives.
Other survivors include two sons, John Dalton, Joplin, and Arthur Dalton, Hudson, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Dawson, Yucaipa, Calif., and Laura Hulsey, San Francisco, Calif.; two brothers, Frank Batson, Pierce City, and J.O. Batson, Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Esther Derby, Penrose, Colo., and Shirley Clayton, Sarcoxie; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morris Leiman Mosher Funeral Home, Miller.
The Rev. Don Sullivan will officiate.

Doris Williams

Mrs. Doris Williams, 70, of Southwest City, Mo., died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Grove General Hospital in Grove, Okla., after an illness.
Mrs. Doris Williams was born on May 7, 1932 in Pineville, Mo., to Luther and Martha (Pratt) Hatfield. She had lived in Southwest City for the last 45 years. She was a member of the Southwest City United Methodist Church. She had been a 4-H leader for 20 years, a lifetime member of the FFA Alumna and a Demolay Mom. She worked with the elderly through the Division of Aging and was active in the Southwest City community for many years. She was an Eastern Star member for more than 40 years. She was Past Matron of the Southwest City Chapter No. 220 OES for 18 years. She served as District Deputy Grand Matron of the 56th District for two terms. She was Grand Representative to Nebraska in Missouri and Past President of the Missouri Grand Representatives Club. She served as Grand Ruth in 1998 and was elected to Associate Grand Conductress. She progressed through the line to the the 2001-2002 Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Melvin Hatfield and Gene Hatfield; and one granddaughter, Kim Moorman.
She married Ralph E. Williams on April 21, 1957 in Southwest City, Mo. He survives of the home in Southwest City, Mo. Additional survivors include three daughters, Mary McFerron of Kansas, Okla., Jenny Jones of Bella Vista, Ark., Teresa Moorman of Sulphur Springs, Ark.; two sons, David Cooley of Buffalo, Mo., Joe Cooley of St. Peters, Mo.; her mother, Martha Hatfield of Noel, Mo.; two sisters, Pat Hutchens of Anderson, Mo., Darlene Mitchell of Noel, Mo.; three brothers, Ed Hatfield of Noel, Mo., Jim Hatfield of Neosho, Mo., Jack Hatfield of Anderson, Mo.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A luncheon for family and friends will be served at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Anderson United Methodist Church, provided by Fern Chapter No. 348 OES. The funeral service for Mrs. Doris Williams will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo. Reverend Bob Howard and Rev. David Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Southwest City Cemetery in Southwest City, Mo.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hatfield, Bill Neumann, Kenneth Conley, Jim Bates, Don Schwartz and Steve Crotty. Honorary pallbearers will be Dual Slover, Leonard Stephenson, James Kerr and Leonard Key.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Mo. from 4:00 until 7:30 p.m. Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7:30 by the Missouri Grand Family.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Doris Williams Worthy Grand Matron Fund to be used for charities of Cancer or Heart in care of Ozark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 520, Anderson, Mo. 64831.

Opal L. Sullivan

Opal L. Retherford Sullivan, 96, of Joplin, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at a local care facility. Mrs. Sullivan was born April 11, 1906 in Pittsburg, Kan. She was a resident of Joplin, moved to Springfield in 1953, and returned to Joplin in 1986. While in Springfield, she worked as a sales clerk for Farris' Women's Wear. She was a member of the Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Crescent Chapter No. 21 Order of the Eastern Star and Pleiades Shrine, both of Springfield.
Opal married Don Retherford on July 9, 1925 in Joplin. He died October 30, 1959. She married Charles Sullivan on January 11, 1965 in Springfield, Mo. He died July 7, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her son, Herb L. Retherford, who died January 14, 1971, at age 43.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Nancy Johnson, and her husband, Mike, of Joplin, and Linda Mathes and her husband, Ron, of Bowling Green, Ohio; a grandson, David Retherford and wife, Kathy, of Simpsonville, S.C.; great-granddaughters, Stephanie Johnson McGrew and husband, Adam, of Joplin, Stacey Mathes Hawkins and husband, Jeff, of Wichita, Kan., and Kelsey Retherford of Simpsonville, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Chad Mathes of St. Louis, Mo., and Dusty Retherford of Simpsonville, S.C.; a niece, Doris Ard and husband, Everett, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepson, Dr. Charles Sullivan and wife, Delilah, of Indianapolis, Ind.; three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Larry Six will officiate. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Adam McGrew, John Rains, Ed Miller, Chad Mathes and Jim Lhamon.

Helen Hardcastle-Loggains

Helen M. Hardcastle-Loggains, 81, Joplin, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hardcastle-Loggains was born May 13, 1917, at Sherman, Texas. She had lived in the Joplin and Webb City areas since 1965. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, 1819 E. 26th St. and 401 Forest Ave.
She married Henry Hardcastle in August 1935, at Denison, Texas. He died in November 1974.
She married Wilburn Loggains in October 1982, at Joplin. He died in May 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Bill Hardcastle and William Loggains, both of Webb City, and Ed Hardcastle, Joplin; three daughters, Wanda Putnam, Joplin, Joyce Vann, Carl Junction, and Glenda Felts, Riverton, Kan.; a brother, Othel Myers, Denison; three sisters, Mamie Ballou and Jo Burns, both of Denison, and Nadine King, Borden, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Don Deffenbaugh, minister, will officiate. Graveside services will follow at GAR Cemetery, Miami, Okla.

Cora Owen

Cora L. Owen, 95, 2810 Jackson Ave., died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at a local nursing home after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Owen was born April 2, 1903, at Iuka, Ark. She moved to Joplin in 1941 from Carl Junction. She was a member of the Christian Church.
She married Harrison Owen on Jan. 28, 1920, at Mountain Home, Ark. He died Aug. 12, 1959.
Two sons also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Arlie Frizzell, Placerville, Calif., Lillian Diederick, and Lorene Spence, both of Joplin; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Carl Junction (Mo.) Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Simon will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Lovell, J.R. Kenworthy, Jerry Spence, Adam Spence, Roger Blaukat and Rodney Blaukat.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the mortuary.

Will Wimmer

Willard James "Will" Wimmer Sr., 56, Joplin, died at 1:53 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Wimmer was born Jan. 30, 1942, at Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in the Des Moines and Indianola, Iowa, areas. He moved to Joplin six years ago from Climax Springs. He was working as a truck driver for Wehrle Trucking Co., Lindville, Iowa, for the past year. He also worked for Sitton Motor Lines and Burlington Motor Co., both of Joplin.
He married Cheryl Wheeler on Aug. 12, 1976, at Indianola. She survives.
Additional survivors include five sons, Bill Wimmer, Des Moines, Charles Wimmer, Pleasantville, Iowa, Steven Wimmer, Hartford, Iowa, Brian Teems, Springfield, and Jason Wimmer, Manhattan, Kan.; a daughter, Brenda Teems, Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Darlene Neer, Rock Island, Ill., and Millie Annis, Altoona, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
Services and burial will be held in Indianola under the direction of Overton Funeral Home.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Elsie Cox

JANE, Mo. - Elsie Vivian Cox, 88, Jane route 1, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at a nursing home in Anderson after an illness.
Mrs. Cox was born June 14, 1910, in Benton County, Ark. She moved to Jane in 1970 from Benton County. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Scott S. Cox, died June 24, 1986.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Bertschy, Springdale, Ark., Jack Bertschy, Seattle, Wash., and Gene Cox, Jane; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark Funeral Home, Pineville. The Rev. Hank Gorman will officiate. Burial will be in the Jane Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Contributions may be made to the McDonald County Library, in care of the funeral home.
