Alma Couch

WEBB CITY, Mo. - Alma M. Cooper Couch, 78, 219 Par Lane, died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at a Joplin nursing home after a short illness.

Mrs. Couch was born Sept. 17, 1918, at Chetopa, Kan. She was a seamstress and a member of First Christian Church, Webb City.

Her husband, Lavern Couch, died July 25, 1995.

There are no immediate survivors.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lake Creek Cemetery, near Bartlett, Kan. Calvin St. Clair, minister, will officiate.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Saylor Cowardin

LAMAR, Mo. - Saylor Henry Cowardin, 88, Lamar, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at his home after a short illness.

Mr. Cowardin was born July 11, 1908, at Hunter, Okla. He moved to Barton County in 1949 from Lamont, Okla., where he had farmed. He worked for the Lawn Boy Co. in Lamar for 11 years, co-owned and operated the Phillips 66 Service Station for a short time, and was a school bus driver and custodian for Lamar schools for many years. He owned and operated Saylor's Taxi Service until he retired in 1993.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Lamar.

He married Marie Shaney on Nov. 26, 1936, at Garber, Okla. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Larry Cowardin, Joplin, and Bruce Cowardin, Pittsburg, Kan.; two daughters, Carolyn Noyes, Liberal, and Janice White, Lamar; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home. Doug Oakes, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar.

Pallbearers will be Allen Noyes, Mark Cowardin, Todd Delph, Scot Robertson, Bruce Sheat and Patrick Sheat.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Hazel Cox

NEVADA, Mo. - Hazel A. Cox, 86, Nevada, died at noon Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at a nursing home in Nevada after a long illness.

Mrs. Cox was born Sept. 12, 1910, at Granby. She returned to Nevada in October 1945. She formerly lived in Oklahoma City, Okla., Dayton, Ohio, and San Antonio, Texas.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Nevada.

She worked at First National Bank in Nevada until she retired in 1981.

She married Kenneth O. Cox on April 27, 1940, in Nevada. He died Feb. 1, 1996.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Mackey will officiate. Burial will be in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frances Foust

NEOSHO, Mo. - Laura Frances Coble Foust, 75, Springfield, a former Neosho resident, died at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a short illness.

Mrs. Foust was born Dec. 31, 1921, in the Douthitt community, near Miami, Okla. She moved from Neosho to Miami in 1969 and to Springfield in 1991. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Rolling Hills Baptist Church, Miami.

She married Cecil Coble on Nov. 26, 1941. He died March 31, 1969. She later married Thomas Foust, who died July 17, 1988.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Hagan, Springfield, Patricia Keats, Fairland, Okla., and Cynthia Aman, Portland, Ore.; a stepson, Jeffrey Foust, Mound, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Cindy Debano, state of California; a brother, Bob Martin, Eulass, Texas; three sisters, Evelyn Jacks, Okmulgee, Okla., Phyllis Witten, Commerce, Okla., and Ann Holmes, Miami; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Northside Baptist Church, Neosho. The Rev. James R. Hagan will officiate. Burial will be in Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery.

Grandsons serving as pallbearers will be Trey Shaw, Jason Shaw, Matt Patton, Scott Dinwiddie, Kelly Witten, Rusty Witten and Marty Moudy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Murray Haynes

NEVADA, Mo. - Murray T. Haynes, 88, Nevada, died Tuesday night, Jan. 7, 1997, at a Nevada nursing home after a short illness.

Mr. Haynes was born April 10, 1908, in Vernon County. He was a lifetime resident of Vernon County. He attended Montevallo School. He was a farmer and a mail carrier for 10 years. He also had worked at Nevada State Hospital for 19 years. He retired in 1972.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and Montevallo Masonic Lodge No. 490.

He married Gladys V. Collins on Oct. 27, 1939, in Nevada. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Tom Haynes, Houston, Texas; a daughter, Linda Ogle, Nevada; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dederick.

Contributions may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, Nevada.

Noble Lauderdale

ANDERSON, Mo. - Noble E. Lauderdale, 70, Kansas City, Kan., a former Anderson resident, died at 7:52 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, after an illness.

Mr. Lauderdale was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Anderson. He moved from Anderson to Kansas City 47 years ago. He was a maintenance repairman for Kansas City Terminal Railway.

He was a member of London Heights Baptist Church, Kansas City, where he had been a deacon and taught Sunday school for 12 years. He was a veteran of the Army.

He married Beatrice Hood on Jan. 1, 1950, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Danny Lauderdale, Kansas City; a daughter, Joyce Lauderdale, Joplin; a brother, Robert Lauderdale, Joplin; three sisters, Maude Hoagland and Gladys Fern Krokroskia, both of Joplin, and Billie Murray, Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The Rev. Terry Deaver will officiate. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery, southeast of Goodman.

Christine Love

NEOSHO, Mo. - Christine L. Love, 81, Vallejo, Calif., a former Newton County resident, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at her home after a short illness.

Mrs. Love was born May 15, 1915, in the Boulder City community, near Neosho. She moved from Boulder City to Vallejo in 1939. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of Christ, Vallejo Nite Caps and a quilting club, all in Vallejo. She was a volunteer for Crestwood Convalescent Hospital, Alzheimer's Support Group and American Cancer Society, all of Vallejo.

Her husband, Clovis E. Love, died Jan. 12, 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Lawson, Vallejo; a son, Kent Love, Vallejo; a sister, Lila Trautz, Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Christ, Vallejo.

Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hazelgreen Cemetery, Boulder City community, near Neosho. Troy Risley, minister, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bob Robinson, Christopher Hayner, John Harrison and Tom Harrison.

Arrangements are under the direction of Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.
