Lo Reta Lau

CASSVILLE, Mo. - Lo Reta Lau, 78, Cassville, died at 6:52 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at South Barry County Hospital, Cassville, after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Lau was born Aug. 2, 1918, at Stroud, Okla. She lived in Cassville most of her life. She worked at Johnston's Hardware and Riddle's Clothing Store, both in Cassville. She was the Cassville assistant city clerk for several years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cassville and the Naomi Ruth Sunday School Class and Triple L Ministries.

She married John Stanton in October 1950. He preceded her in death. She married Raymond Lau on July 3, 1982, in Cassville. He survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Gregory Alan Stanton, Lowell, Ark.; a daughter, Barbara Gail Goostree, Macomb, Okla.; a stepson, Phillip Lau, Easley, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Zoe Moore, Burton, S.C.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. John Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, in care of the funeral home.

Vera McCrite

NEOSHO, Mo. - Graveside services for Vera Bernadine McCrite, 89, Kent, Wash., a former Neosho resident, who died Thursday, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Neosho IOOF Cemetery.

The Rev. Fred Pugh will officiate.

Pallbearers will be George Henry, Dwight Douglas, Eldon Morgan, Fred Clark and Dick Reed.

The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Contributions may be made to the Newton County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Roger Peterson

SARCOXIE, Mo. - Roger E. Peterson, 78, Sarcoxie, died at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Missouri Veterans Home, Mount Vernon, after a long illness.

Mr. Peterson was born Jan. 31, 1918, at Alma, Neb. He moved in 1984 to Sarcoxie from Downey, Calif. He retired in 1983 a salesman for Uda Home Steel, Santa Fe Springs, Calif. He served as a Army medic during World War II.

He married Julie Birdsall on June 5, 1948, at Long Beach, Calif. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Gary Freeman, Sarcoxie, Ronald Peterson, Saudi Arabia, and Mark Peterson, Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Allen Peterson, Lewellen, Neb.; a sister, Margery Reagan, Huntington Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Housh Funeral Home at Sarcoxie.

Gene Powell

WHEATON, Mo. - Clinton "Gene" E. Powell, 67, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Wheaton, died at 4:16 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, after an illness.

Mr. Powell was born June 13, 1929, at Wheaton. He was a retired tooling worker for Boeing Aircraft Corp., Wichita. He was an Army veteran.

His wife, Carmen, survives. They were married Oct. 25, 1955, at Newkirk, Okla.

Other survivors include his mother, Dora Powell, Wheaton; two brothers, Dillard Powell, Wichita, and Donald Powell, Wheaton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita. The Rev. David Alexander will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Nathaniel Strong

LAMAR, Mo. - Nathaniel David Strong, 24, Lamar, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at University Hospital, Little Rock, Ark., after a short illness.

Mr. Strong was born Sept. 5, 1972, in Carthage. He was a lifetime Lamar resident and worked for Bright Asphault Construction, Lamar. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Chloe DeWitt, Lamar; his father and stepmother, David and Christy Strong, Lamar; his mother and stepfather, Linda and R.C. Henry, Lamar; two sisters, Shelley McCall, Lamar, and Charity Jeffcoat, Pensacola, Fla.; four stepbrothers, Chris Thompson and Travis Thompson, both of Lamar, and Jody Henry, Vinita, Okla., and Steven Henry, Poplar Bluff; four stepsisters, April Thompson, Lamar, Rhonda Martin and Janie Collins, both of Vinita, and Ashley Henry, Springfield; paternal grandparents, Dean and Mary Strong, Lamar; maternal grandfather, Howard Whitten, Lamar; step-grandparents, Maggie and Jessie Henry, Mountain View, and June DeWitt, Lamar; and paternal great-grandmother, Lila Moore, Lamar.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Chapel, Lamar. The Rev. Jackie Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Iantha (Mo.) Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to a memorial fund for Chloe DeWitt, in care of the funeral home.

Robert Talley

Robert DeHaven Talley, 68, Spokane, Wash., formerly of Joplin, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Deaconess Medical Center, Spokane, after an illness.

Mr. Talley was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Joplin. He had lived 25 years in Spokane, where he worked at Bon Marche for 18 years. He retired in 1993. He previously had worked 25 years as a hard-rock miner at Silver Valley, Idaho.

He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War.

His wife, Audrey Talley, died in 1980.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Jean LaVoie and Linda Kay Farino, both of Spokane; two sons, Jeff Neil Talley and Reed David Talley, both of Spokane; three sisters, Edith Terry and Lavon Olds, both of Duenweg, and Ruby LaTurner, Galena, Kan.; a brother, Steve Talley, Spokane; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane.

William Warren

William W. Warren Jr., 76, Hannibal, a former Joplin resident, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at Hannibal Regional Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Warren was born July 1, 1920, at Cocoa, Fla. He was retired owner and operator of Higginsville (Mo.) Auto Supply.

He was a member and past elder of First Christian Church, Warrensburg. He was past exalted ruler of Warrensburg Elks Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He married Dorothy Bottenfield on Oct. 31, 1940. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Gary Warren, New London, and Steve Warren, Warrensburg; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Warrensburg. The Rev. L. Wallace Brown will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. The Rev. Ron Wade will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Hannibal.

Contributions may be made to the intensive care unit at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
