Barbara J. Towery

Barbara J. Towery, 47, 2632 E. Second St., died at 12:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Towery was born Oct. 27, 1949 at Pittsburgh, Penn.

She had been a resident of Joplin for five years, previously living in Webb City.

She was a homemaker.

She married Jimmy Lee Towery on Aug. 16, 1973 at Houston, Texas.

He died May 4, 1986.

Survivors include a son, Travis Towery, Joplin; her mother, Veronica Waugaman, Cheswick, Penn.; two brothers, Pat Waugaman and David Waugaman, Pittsburgh, Penn.; and a sister, Joyce Myers, Pittsburg, Penn.

The body was taken for cremation.

A private family burial will be at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Beatrice Mosher

NEVADA, Mo. - Beatrice Lucille Luther Mosher, 81, Nevada, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Nevada Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Mosher was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Bates County.

She lived most of her life in Vernon County.

She ran a laundry business from her home for most of her life, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of Happy Workers Club, Nevada.

She was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, both of Nevada, and taught Sunday school at both.

She married Melvin K. Mosher on March 9, 1968, at Nowata, Okla. He survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Albert Spencer, Wichita, Kan., and Terry Mosher, Nevada; a daughter, Melvonna Schneider, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Dottie Avis, Modesto, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. John Nichols officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Schell City.

Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of the service.

Velma Rose

WASHBURN, Mo. - Velma I. Rose, 84, Washburn, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

Mrs. Rose was born Sept. 20, 1912, at Washburn.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of God of Seventh Day, Joplin.

She married Jeff L. Rose on Dec. 22, 1926, at Neosho. He survives.

Additional survivors include six sons, Lenear Rose, Grove, Okla., Lemoin Rose, Yakima, Wash., John Rose, Amarillo, Texas; Lennis Rose, Harley Rose, and Howard Rose, all of Washburn; six daughters, Ruby Evylee Coyner and Marilyn Roller, both of Washburn, Nancy Woodard, Pineville, Jetta M. Rose, Chino, Calif., Wanda Clement, Lincoln, Neb., and Thelma Martin, Independence; a brother, Ray Fletcher, Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Velrie Adams, Mount Vernon, Vurl Ruark, Neosho, Faye Fleshman, Aurora, and Maxine Morgan, Vancouver, Wash.; 43 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 24, 1997, at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

The Rev. Lenear Rose, John Rose, and Lemoin Rose conducted the service.

Burial was in King Cemetery, Seligman.

Pallbearers were Brian Rose, Rick Rose, David Woodard, Richard Rose, Larry Sanders, James Lee Roller, Steve Rose and Vernon Rose.

Cecil Taylor

NEOSHO, Mo. - Cecil Wesley Taylor, 79, Neosho, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a sudden illness.

Mr. Taylor was born June 4, 1917, at Rogers, Ark.

He grew up in the Cherokee City, Ark., and Gentry, Ark., areas.

He had lived in Savannah for many years.

He moved to Anderson in 1980, living there until moving to Neosho a year ago.

He was a retired carpenter.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion.

He married Grace Hartman on April 15, 1996. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Cecil Joe Taylor, Gentry, Ark., and Crawford Monroe Taylor, Corpus Christi, Texas; two stepsons, Dennis Edwards, Fayetteville, Ark., and Douglas Edwards, Rockport, Texas; three sisters, Daisy Blagg and Alene Hurt, both of Colcord, Okla., and Violet Evans, Gravette, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, with the Rev. Sam Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Peace Valley Cemetery, Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Jack Boyle, Tiny Boyle, George Boyle, Larry Hurt, Shane Thompson, Roger McKinney and Carrol McKinney.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mildred Engles

Mildred W. Engles, 82, 530 W. 44th St., died at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West after an illness.

Mrs. Engles was born Jan. 13, 1915, at Monett.

She grew up in Monett.

She was a beautician and owned and operated a salon in Kansas for many years.

She raised and bred poodles.

She had lived in Joplin six years.

She also had lived in Oregon.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She married Robert "Bob" Engles on Oct. 23, 1947, at Nashville, Tenn.

He died April 9, 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Rae Unzicker, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Renee Coelho, Mesa, Ariz.; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Monett.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Hill

Mary Jane Hill, 86, Joplin, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at a local nursing home after an illness.

Mrs. Hill was born Aug. 9, 1910, at Oklahoma City, Okla.

She lived in Joplin most of her life.

She was graduated in 1930 from the former St. John's School of Nursing in Joplin.

She was a registered nurse.

She was Joplin's city health nurse from 1954 to 1963 and was an Oklahoma state health nurse in Ottawa County for nine years.

She retired in 1972.

She owned and operated the former Quapaw (Okla.) Nursing Home.

She was a member of the former Animal Aid Association of Joplin.

Survivors include a son, William Lee Hill IV, Carl Junction; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Patrick Peck, minister, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, in care of the mortuary.

Orville Johnson

Graveside services for Orville D. Johnson, 66, 3702 Ridge Drive, who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at IOOF Cemetery, Marshall, Okla.

Military honors will be provided by a detachment from Vance Air Force Base, Enid Okla.

Mr. Johnson was born March 14, 1930.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

An obituary in Wednesday's editions incorrectly listed Mr. Johnson's date of birth, and the day set for visitation.
