Janie Ramey

AURORA, Mo. - Janie Ramey, 87, Aurora, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, in a Marionville nursing center after a long illness.

Mrs. Ramey was born Sept. 23, 1909, at Pindall, Ark. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Aurora.

She married Miles Ramey on Aug. 31, 1959, in the state of Oklahoma; he died Jan. 2, 1971.

She is survived by a sister, Bonnie Beckett, Monett.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Springdale, Ark.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Samsel

AURORA, Mo. - Helen M. Samsel, 78, died at 6:02 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1997, in the Aurora Community Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Samsel was born Jan. 11, 1919, in Marionville. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker and a retired licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Aurora.

She married Albert Samsel on Aug. 22, 1938. He died Oct. 6, 1986.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald Samsel, Joplin, Larry Samsel, Ridgedale, and John Samsel, Larchmont, N.Y.; a daughter, Ramona Paulsen, Washburn; a sister, Joan Boyd, Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Crafton-Cantrell Chapel. Sammy Flores will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery, Marionville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Contributions made be made to the First Christian Church.

James Snavely

SHELL KNOB, Mo. - James R. "Jim" Snavely, 56, Shell Knob, died at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 1997, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a sudden illness.

Mr. Snavely was born Dec. 17, 1940, at Greeley, Colo. He was a retired insurance executive. He moved to Shell Knob in March 1994 from Fallbrook, Calif.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Shell Knob, where he served on the parish council, the building committee, was an usher and a member of the choir.

He married Kathleen McCarty on Feb. 11, 1961, at Compton, Calif.; she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Michael Snavely, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Karen Little, Cumming, Ga., and Mary Snavely, Springfield; a brother, Richard Snavely, Seal Beach, Calif.; a sister, Judy Fuller, Dunwoody, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Shell Knob. The Rev. Tom Thro will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date in Elm Springs (Ark.) Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home, Shell Knob.

Contributions may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church building fund, in care of the funeral home.

James Whitecotton

WEBB CITY, Mo. - James Oliver Whitecotton, 74, Webb City route 1, died at 2:48 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.

Mr. Whitecotton was born March 16, 1922, at St. Louis. He was a former resident of Lamar. He was an automobile mechanic.

He married Julianne Giles in January 1946 in San Diego, Calif.; she died June 8, 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Craig Whitecotton, Bryan Whitecotton and David Whitecotton, addresses unavailable.

No services are scheduled. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery, Lamar.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Ollie Inscore

Ollie Frances Inscore, 87, Joplin, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 1997, at a Joplin nursing home after an illness.

Mrs. Inscore was born Dec. 21, 1909, at Alma, Okla. She moved to Joplin in 1995. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Duncan, Okla.

She married Ben Thomas Inscore on Jan. 2, 1927, at Alma, Okla. He died Feb. 1, 1969.

Survivors include two sons, Ben Thomas Inscore Jr., Cornelius, Ore., and James L. Inscore, Joplin; a daughter, Nada Faye Washabaugh, Hillsboro, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan, Okla. Randy Southerland, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Alma Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Alma Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

Paul Smith

Paul E. Smith, 76, 1822 Reinmiller Road, died at 7 a.m. Monday, March 10, 1997, at his home after a heart attack.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 12, 1920, at Joplin. He lived in Joplin until moving to Warrenton, Mo., in 1974. He retired in 1987 as general manager of Warrenton Products, Warrenton. Previously he was employed 30 years as sales manager of Joplin's 7-up and Dr. Pepper plant. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was past president of Missouri Bottlers' Association. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of Joplin Exchange Club and Joplin Jaycees.

He married Mildred Admire on June 1, 1941, at Joplin. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Mike Smith and Stan Smith, both of Joplin; two sisters, Loretta Tabb and Wanda Sutton, both of Joplin; a brother, Eugene Smith, Joplin; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip McClendon will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

Contributions may be made to the baseball program at Missouri Southern State College, in care of the funeral home.

Delores Amos

MONETT, Mo. - Delores Jean Amos, 57, Tulsa, Okla., a Monett native, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 1997, at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, after a short illness.

Ms. Amos was born June 28, 1939, at Monett. She moved in 1960 to Tulsa, where she was a Hillcrest Medical Center switchboard operator. She was a member of Red Fork Baptist Church, Tulsa.

Survivors include two daughters, Karla Amos and Denise Amos, both of Tulsa; her father, Eugene Keltner, Monett; and two brothers, Gary Keltner, Azle, Texas, and Jim Keltner, Tulsa.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at IOOF Cemetery, Monett.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett.
