Noah Neely

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Noah J. Neely, 88, Mount Vernon, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at a Monett nursing home after a short illness.

Mr. Neely was born Jan. 26, 1909, at Jenkins. He spent most of his life in Mount Vernon.

He was a retired worker for the Carnation Can Co., Mount Vernon.

He had been a member of the Mount Vernon Saddle Club and the Baptist Hill Organization board.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon and the Mount Vernon Odd Fellows Lodge.

He married Georgia Jane Pruitt on March 12, 1931, in Mount Vernon. She died July 16, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Sidney Neely, Springfield; a sister, Imogene Atkinson, Mount Vernon; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Williams Cemetery, west of Mount Vernon.

The Rev. Gary Gilmore will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Mount Vernon.

Harold Prescott

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Harold S. Prescott Sr., 89, Mount Vernon, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 1997, at a nursing home in Mount Vernon after an illness.

Mr. Prescott was born April 24, 1907, at Pawtucket, R.I.

He graduated in 1930 from Brown University with a degree in civil engineering.

He moved in 1948 from Rhode Island to Placerville, Calif., where he operated an engineering office until retiring in 1969.

He moved to Missouri in 1969.

He was a Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Miller and the Shrine.

He served in the Corps of Engineers during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Prescott; three sons, Harold S. Prescott Jr., Placerville, Lawrence L. Prescott, Sapulpa, Okla., and Glenn S. Prescott, Seneca; a daughter, Colleen S. Prescott, Denver, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Beverly Bauche, North Kingstown, R.I., and Glenda Drenon, Diamond Springs, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three wives, two sons, a daughter, a stepson,and a stepdaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Philip Steenrod

LOCKWOOD, Mo. - Philip H. Steenrod, 74, Ottawa, Kan., formerly of Lockwood, died Thursday, March 20, 1997, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, after an illness.

Mr. Steenrod was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Lockwood.

He graduated from Lockwood High School in 1940.

He moved to Ottawa in 1961 from Missouri, where he had lived in Lockwood and Carthage.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He later served in the Missouri National Guard before being discharged in 1951 as a sergeant.

He worked for several years at Harnig Sheet Metal Co., Lawrence, Kan.

He worked for 16 years in the maintenance department of the Kansas State Highway Department, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lockwood.

He was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie Lodge No. 2700, Ottawa.

He was a former Boy Scout leader and member of the Ottawa Men's Bowling Association.

He married Lucy Beals on Sept. 15, 1956, in Lockwood. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Philip Steenrod, Litchfield, Minn.; two daughters, Ginger Milbern and Rebecca Grauel, both of Ottawa; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Pastor Duane Pedrow will officiate.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901, Ottawa.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Additional visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Eagle's Lodge Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Neet Rickman

E. Wanetta "Neet" Rutherford Rickman, 81, Joplin, died at 12:25 p.m. Monday at a local nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. Rickman was born June 29, 1915, in Joplin.

She lived most of her life in Joplin, except from 1963 to 1969, when she lived at West Covina, Calif. She was a homemaker.

She married Howard Rickman on Sept. 13, 1940, in Joplin. He died July 19, 1968.

Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Garvin, Joplin, and Neeta Quinn, Newport Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Maxine Duley and Pauline Hamm, both of Joplin; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. The Rev. Aaron Brown will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

Contributions may be made to the Parkinson's and Other Neurological Diseases (POND) support group, in care of the mortuary.

Bernie Shrum

The Rev. Bernie Bruce Shrum, 84, Lowry City, a former Joplin area resident, died at 6:02 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola, after an illness.

Mr. Shrum was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Bellinger County.

He lived his early life in Southwest Missouri.

He attended Southwest Baptist College at Bolivar and Southwestern Theological Seminary at Fort Worth, Texas.

He was ordained a minister at Vista Baptist Church, near Osceola.

He has pastored churches at Vista, Osceola, Asbury, Joplin and Sarcoxie in Missouri, Kellogg, Idaho, Enumclaw, Wash., and Sheridan, Wyo.

After he retired in 1980, he continued to pastor Round Prairie Baptist Church in Bates County and later Gerster Baptist Church in St. Clair County.

He married Lula Brown on Feb. 9, 1935, in Douglas County. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Nancy Carrell, Butler, and Suzanne Storm, Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

The Rev. Todd Forman and the Rev. John Barrett officiated.

Burial was in Lowry City (Mo.) Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Maynard Duzan, Mike Floyd, Ed Misner, Lloyd Davis, Howard Burnett and Randy Hargis.

Jean Johnson

EVERTON, Mo. - Jean Ann Johnson, 70, Everton, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Aurora Community Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 14, 1926, at Grand Rapids, Minn.

She lived in Paris Springs, near Everton, the past 35 years. She was a homemaker.

She married Robert Johnson on Nov. 30, 1946, at St. Paul, Minn. He survives.

Additional survivors include four sons, Thomas Johnson, Alamogordo, N.M., David Harold Johnson, Miller, Martin Victor Johnson, Halltown, and Clifford Paul Johnson, Ozark; four daughters, Virginia Ann Harmon, McClurg, Katherine Eileen Bamberry, Springfield, Sally Jean Kennedy and Margaret Kay Hadley, both of Sedan, Kan.; her mother, Emma Lindstrom, Maplewood, Minn.; four sisters, Ruth Gibbons, Sun City, Ariz., Ellsa Sorenson, White Bear Lake, Minn., Linda Gulick, Miller, Carole Lunderen, White Bear Lake; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, Miller.

The Rev. Rodger Sutherland will officiate.

Burial will be in Miller Memorial Gardens Cemetery, south of Miller.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.

Mary Mackowiak

CARTHAGE, Mo. - Mary Katherine Mackowiak, 63, Carthage, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 1996, at her home after a long illness.

Mrs. Mackowiak was born June 2, 1933, in Richwood, W.Va. She was a homemaker.

She was employed at Frames Family Restaurant in Sommerville, W.Va.

Her husband, Victor John Mackowiak, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Mackowiak, Marmet, W.Va.; three daughters, Ann Walton and Melissa Mackowiak, both of Aurora, Ill., and Melanie Persinger, state of West Virginia; three sisters, Evelene Dodson, Carthage, Helen Sigley, Carthage, and Barbara Coffman, Gassaway, W.Va.; her stepmother, Betty Coffman, Gassaway; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, W.Va.

Burial will be in Barkers Ridge Cemetery, near Sutton.

Local arrangements were made by Ulmer Funeral Home.
