Catherine Carlson

Catherine Lucille Carlson, 81, 201 Northpark Lane, formerly of Webb City, died at 9:54 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West after a one-week illness.

Mrs. Carlson was born Aug. 21, 1915, at Webb City.

She was a 1932 graduate of Carl Junction (Mo.) High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Webb City.

Her husband, John Carlson, died Aug. 17, 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Carlson, Webb City; and a sister, Rita Schul, Joplin.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carl Junction (Mo.) Cemetery. Allan Brintnall, minister, will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Bill Thomas

William E. "Bill" Thomas, 76, Joplin, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at Freeman Hospital West after a sudden illness.

Mr. Thomas was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Joplin. He lived in Joplin most of his life.

He was a 1938 graduate of Joplin High School and attended the former Joplin Junior College.

He graduated in 1946 from the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute at Washington, D.C.

He owned an operated Bill Thomas Sales and Service in Joplin for many years, retiring in 1982.

He also drove a school bus for the Joplin Cerebral Palsy Center for nine years.

He was a member and deacon of Central Christian Center, Joplin.

He was a member of Gideons International.

He served in the Naval Air Corps on U.S. Coastal Patrol during World War II, serving as chief petty officer in England, North Africa and in the Pacific.

He married Harriet Jones on Sept. 3, 1943, at Oceana, Va. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Michael Thomas, Temple, Texas; two daughters, Mardell Rouse and Laurenn Ames, both of Joplin; two brothers, Bob Thomas, Joplin, and Jim Thomas, Branson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

The Rev. Mack Evans and the Rev. Doug Wilkerson will officiate.

Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gary Ames, Charles Rouse, Stewart Rouse, Preston Rouse, Steve Buerge, Jeff Thomas and James Poe.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Contributions may be made to Gideons International or Central Christian Center, in care of the mortuary.

Eva Boyer

NEOSHO, Mo. - Eva Faye Boyer, 85, Neosho, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, in a Joplin nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. Boyer was born Dec. 14, 1911, at Clayton, Okla.

She moved to the area in 1925 from Oklahoma.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, west of Neosho.

She married Kenneth A. Boyer on Aug. 1, 1929, at Goodman. He died July 21, 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Marlene Farren, Joplin; a son, Dale Boyer, Seneca; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

The Rev. Rick Patterson and the Rev. Jack Sanders will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, southwest of Neosho.

Pallbearers will be Eric Platner, Dan Farren, Steve Farren, Mark Farren, Weymeth Boyer, Matt Patterson and Darren Cook.

Homer Cole

WENTWORTH, Mo. - Homer Cole, 80, Wentworth, died at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, after a long illness.

Mr. Cole was born July 22, 1916, in the state of Kentucky.

He was a saw operator, retiring from Ozark Oak Flooring.

He was a Baptist.

He married Freda Baker on Sept 26, 1971, at Pineville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Raymond Cole, Columbus, Ohio, and Danny Cole, Swayzee, Ind.; four stepsons, Ronald Crow, Fairview, Lawrence Crow, Pierce City, Richard Crow, Wentworth, and Bobby Crow, Dewitt, Ark.; a daughter, Gloria Crow, Fairview; three stepdaughters, Brenda Mick, Liberty, Texas, Ewentha Thomas, Muskogee, Okla., and Edwinna Burton, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Lakin Funeral Home, Pierce City.

Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Wentworth.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bill Filby

Otho L. "Bill" Filby, 88, Joplin route 3, died at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at his home after a sudden illness.

Mr. Filby was born March 6, 1908, at Columbus, Kan.

He was a lifelong area resident.

He retired in 1951 from the Merchant Marines.

He worked for the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad Co.

There are no immediate survivors.

The body will be cremated.

No services are planned.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.

Annja Madole

Annja L. Madole, 36, Joplin, was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996, at 3501 Junge Blvd.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death.

Mrs. Madole was born Aug. 6, 1960, at Denver, Colo.

She had lived most of her life in Joplin.

She was graduated in 1978 from the former Joplin Memorial High School.

She was a waitress for several years at several Joplin restaurants, including Red Lobster.

Surviving is a sister, Debbie Giddens, Joplin.

The body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Goldie Anderson

GOODMAN, Mo. - Goldie L. Anderson, 73, 114 W. Williams, died at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 1996, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after an illness.

Mrs. Anderson was born March 16, 1923, at Chandler, Okla.

She moved to Goodman in 1966 from Dallas, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a Protestant.

She married Lester "Andy" Anderson on July 24, 1953, at Chandler.

He died March 1, 1986.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Cox, Huntington Beach, Calif.; four sisters, Betty E. Gray, Neosho, Irene Rapp, Colorado Springs, Colo., Marie Hobbs, Woodland Park, Colo., and Mary Ellen Laughland, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Neosho Memorial Park.

The Rev. Jerry Seigel will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Noster, Chris DePina, Jack Cox, Kenneth Gray, Harvey Gray and Marvin Gray.

Contributions may be made to Oxford Health Care, Joplin, in care Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home, Neosho.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
