Johnnie Lee Beard

Johnnie Lee Beard, 60, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Marshall County, died June 26, 2006 at his daughter’s home in Mason, Tenn. He was a retired welder.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 2 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenwood MB Church Cemetery in Lamar. Elder Larry Crutcher officiated.

He leaves two daughters, Vandella Beard of Mason, Tenn., Dorthular Hall of Covington, Tenn.; four sons, Johnnie Lee Beard Jr., Charles Edward Beard, Jerry Lee Beard, all of Covington, Tyree Smith of Memphis; two sisters, Bessie Lee Talley of Covington, Mary Yanders of Memphis; three brothers, Henry Beard Jr. of Ashland, Eddie B. Beard of Memphis, James Roger Beard of Atlanta, Ga.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Earl Williams, Albert Williams, James King, Leon Beard, Ronnie Beard, Joe Edinbourgh. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Beard, Ronnie Beard Jr., Danny Young, Jerry Hall, James Taylor and Stevie Young.

Eddie Clark Boatwright

Eddie Clark Boatwright, 71, of Holly Springs, died June 27, 2006 at his home. He was the president of his senior class of 1952 at Holly Springs High School, he also was football captain. He was a Mississippi licensed civil engineer and land surveyor, real estate broker and securities broker. He began his education at Mississippi State University; he also attended the University of Tennessee and was a graduate of the University; he also attended the University of Tennessee, and was a graduate of the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 29 at First Baptist Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Martha S. Boatwright; three sons, Eddie C. Boatwright Jr. of Holly Springs, Philip Boatwright of Holly Springs, Anthony Boatwright of Oxford; a sister, Connie B. Johnson of Holly Springs; a stepbrother, Bobby Smithwick of Potts Camp; two stepsisters, Betty Shaw of Holly Springs, Barbara Wasson of Kosciusko; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, W. Ronnie Boatwright; a nephew, W. Alan Johnson; and his stepmother, Sallye B. Clayton.

Gene Edward (Dunty Dunt) Kimmons

Gene Edward (Dunty Dunt) Kimmons, 50, of Holly Springs, died June 22, 2006 at Yarbrough Chapel Rd. He was a member of Mosley Chapel CME Church in New Albany, where his mother serves as pastor. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.

Services were held at 5:30 p.m. on June 27 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated.

He leaves his mother, Rev. Leona Wooten Harris of Holly Springs; and two brothers, Walter L. Kimmons of Chicago, Ill., and Lawrence E. Harris of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Kimmons.

Pallbearers were Darron Thomas, Grover Marion, Anthony Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Jonas Tallie, Perry Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers were John L. Sanders, Walter L. Kimmons, Terry L. Thomas, Michael Sanders, Anthony Sanders and Lawrence Harris.

Betty Luellen Franklin

Betty Luellen Franklin, 67, of Michigan City, died June 27, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. She was a member of Sims Chapel MB Church, where she was an usher and served on various committees. She was a domestic worker in private homes.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 2 at Sims Chapel Church with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Richard J. (Pete) Franklin Sr.; five daughters, Patricia Allen of Olive Branch, Carlene Franklin of Memphis, Tenn., Belinda Foster of Holly Springs, Bulah (Bonnie) Woodard of Lamar, Rhonda Mabone of Collierville, Tenn.; three sons, Richard James Franklin Jr. of Memphis, Jerry Franklin of Michigan City, Barry Franklin of Collierville; a sister, Dorthy Franklin of Moscow, Tenn.; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Charlene Wilson, Onie Lee Williams, Ophelia Houston, Minnie Mae Parker; four brothers, Louis (Buddie) Luellen, Cullen (Shortie) Luellen Jr., W.C. Luellen and John Lee Luellen.

Pallbearers were Jarvis Allen, Gary Henderson, Tavares Woodard, Marquail Henderson, James Williams, Clint Woodard, Steve Luellen, Brandon Luellen. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Franklin Jr., Jerry Franklin, Barry Franklin, Charles Allen, Theartist Woodard, Quentin Mabone, William Foster and Lee Luellen.

Andrea LeShay Freeman

Andrea LeShay Freeman, 31, of Holly Springs, died June 26, 2006 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a factory worker.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 1 at Ebenezer MB Church in Como, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a stepdaughter, Shakedra Johnson of Holly Springs; three stepsons, Kasey Johnson, Damarcus Jeffries, Keldnek Wiseman, all of Holly Springs; her parents, Patricia F. Morris of Senatobia and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Avant; a sister, Kamisha Faulkner of Holly Springs; two brothers, Mark Richmond of Byhalia, Nicholas Greer of Dekalb; her grandparents, Jack and Betty Freeman of Senatobia and William and Ida Avant of Senatobia and her fiance, Casey Johnson.

Pauline Grissom

Pauline Grissom, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 30, 2006 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The widow of Amon Grissom, she was a member of Willow Oaks Pentecostal Church and a former restaurant manager.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Clear Creek Cemetery in Lamar. Dr. Tony Loskoski officiated.

She leaves a daughter, Mary B. Skelton of Holly Springs; a sister, Earline White of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Sidney Bumpas and Donald Grissom.

James Martin

James Martin, 70, of Byhalia, died June 29, 2006 at his home. He was a member and deacon at Street Hill Primitive Baptist Church and a retired truck driver for the Marshall County Road Department.

Services were held at 12 noon on July 3 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia with burial in Street Hill Church cemetery in Byhalia. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves eight daughters, Sherona Howell of Byhalia, Renachia Martin of Victoria, Chandra Martin, Joeann Martin, Irma Armstrong, Verhonda Corley, Sarah Parker, Kimberly Hardaway, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Jackie Mitchell Martin of Byhalia, Gregory Martin of Memphis, Tenn., Dominic Martin of Victoria; a sister, Chrestora Hawk of Byhalia; a brother, Marshall Martin of Palestine, Ark.; 46 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert Bryan Dismuke

Robert (Bobby) Bryan Dismuke, 49, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 5, 2006 in Tupelo. He was a Baptist and a forklift operator with Mohasco.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery in Hickory Flat.

He leaves his wife, Cathy Dismuke; a son, Michael Dismuke of Holly Springs; two daughters, Rachel Beardsley of Hickory Flat, Amy Troncone of Audubon, N.J.; his mother, Delma Dismuke of Holly Springs; three sisters, Jane Gadd of New Albany; Martha Garner of Germantown, Tenn., Edna Bolden of Holly Springs; and four grandchildren.
