Thelma Geneva Moore Gatlin

Thelma Geneva Moore Gatlin, 90, of Ripley, died Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Tippah County Hospital. She was a member of West Ripley Baptist Church. She was the widow of Van Moore Sr. and Hansel Gatlin. She retired from Lowenstein’s Department Store in Memphis, Tenn. after 30 years of service and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Services were held September 14, at 2 p.m. at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Baker officiating. Burial was in Tippah Memorial Garden. Ripley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves one son, Van E. Moore of Ripley; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters; and two brothers.

Pallbearers were the grandchildren.

Hubbard Hardaway

Hubbard (Herb) Hardaway, 65, of Columbus, formerly of Holly Springs, died Sept. 5, 2007 at Panama City, Fla. He was a truck driver with Big Bee Transportation of Columbus.

Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 12 at Chulahoma MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Jones officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Crystal Mack of Michigan; a sister, Gladys Reed of Red Banks; three brothers, Billy Sharp, Leroy Neely, both of Byhalia, Ray Hardaway of Memphis, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Adella Neely; and his daughter, Rhonda Mack.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Michael Forsythe Lindsey

Michael Forsythe Lindsey, 62, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died Sept. 9, 2007 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. He was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, a member of Kappa Alpa Psi Fraternity and an equal opportunity manager for the U.S. Government.

Graveside services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 15 at Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Edward Charles Moses officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Erica Lindsey Brown of Suwanee, Ga., Michelle Lindsey of Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Deloris Lindsey McJunkins of Calumette City, Ill., Masheetta Lindsey-Hill of Holly Springs; a brother, Merrill W. Lindsey of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Yvonne Sims of Atlanta, Ga.

Donald Ray Mitchell

Donald Ray Mitchell, 65, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 15, 2007 at his home. He was a Presbyterian, a farmer and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Don Wilson and Dr. Milton Winter officiated.

He leaves his wife, Virginia Cocke Mitchell; two daughters, Jane Ann Autry of Ashland, Andrea Chrestman of Holly Springs; two brothers, Ronald Mitchell of Shreveport, La., Bobby Joe Mitchell of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Danny L. Chrestman; and his parents, R.L. (Bob) and Ruth Hines Mitchell.

Mary Henrene Neal

Mary Henrene Neal, 75, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Sept. 11, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of First Baptist Lauderdale Church in Memphis and a retired teacher with Memphis City School System and Denver, Col. School System.

Graveside services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 17 at New Park Cemetery in Memphis. Pastor Noel Hutchinson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves cousins, Dr. Albert Morris Jr., Lena M. Reese, Shirley Martin, all of Memphis, Tenn., Clinton Lester of St. Louis, Mo., Sheila Martin of Dallas, Tx., Bernice Martin of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were cousins and friends.

Joel Jacob Roberts

Joel Jacob Roberts, 54, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 10, 2007 at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab. He was a Baptist and a painter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.

He leaves four brothers, Gene Roberts of Hardy, Ark., Glenn Roberts of Red Banks, Ronnie Roberts of Memphis, Tenn., Timothy Roberts of Red Banks; and three sisters, Nancy Webster of Red Banks, Suzanne Kelly of Memphis, Tenn., and Tammy Ullman of Pontotoc.

James Travis Carpenter

James Travis Carpenter, 55, of Lamar, died Sept. 3, 2007 at his home. He was a Methodist and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Don Wilson officiated. Burial was in Carpenter Family Cemetery.

He leaves a brother, Elbert Carpenter of Lamar; and four sisters, Glenda D. Shelby of Lamar, Ruby Winburn of Hernando, Mary E. Cook of Bolivar, Debra Skelton of Hernando.

Agnes Marie Dennis

Agnes Marie Dennis, 88, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 8, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Charles Dennis Jr., a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, where she was a member of the Seekers Sunday school class and former manager of Holly Springs Dry Cleaners. She was very active for many years in Eastern Star.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Bro. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

She leaves a son, Charles Dennis III of Birmingham, Ala.; three daughters, Brenda Lewis of Memphis, Tenn., Betty Sue Varnado of Purvis, Sharon Schoggen of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Dennis.
