Joy Ashworth

Joy Ashworth, 67, of Byhalia, died July 14, 2007 at her home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 17 at Central Church in Collierville, where she was a member. Burial was in Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery. Collierville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Tom Ashworth; her children, Karissa Taylor, Michelle Elliott, Kim McCoy, Thomas Kadlec and Tom Ashworth; brothers, John and Earnest Hurley; and nine grandchildren.

The family requests any memorials be made to Central Church Great Investment Fund.

Thomas B. Conner

Thomas B. Conner, 84, of Holly Springs, died July 10 at Cordova Rehab in Cordova, Tenn. He was retired from MLGW and was an Army veteran. He was a member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 12 at Forest Hill East Chapel.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Lillie Conner; a son, Terry Conner of Cordova, Tenn.; a daughter, Patty Pierce of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepson, Bradley Bland of Holly Springs; five sisters, Agnes (Jeanie) Clements of Arlington, Tenn., Mildred Graves of Whiteville, Tenn., Mamie Davidson of Somerville, Tenn., Jamie Engelage of Arlington, Tenn., Willie Sue Stewart of Atoka, Tenn.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Kathy Goodman

Cathryn (Kathy) Stanley Goodman, 51, of Red Banks, died July 13, 2007 in Ripley, Tenn. She was born in Lauderdale County, Tenn. She moved at an early age with her family to Fayette County. She lived in the Somerville area before moving to Red Banks 15 years ago. She was a member of Williston Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 17 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland, Tenn. Burial was in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Rickey Burns, pastor of the Williston Baptist Church.

She leaves her daughters, Elaine German of Somerville and April Duncan of Ripley, Tenn.; her son, Richard Kee of Somerville; her mother, Wilda Wilson of Somerville; her stepdaughter, Gail Letchworth of Somerville; two stepsons, Jason Goodman of Moscow and Donnie Goodman of Houston, Tx.; two sisters, Sandra Wilfred of Bartlett, Tenn., Sherry Rowe of Moscow, Tenn.; a brother, John Stanley of Los Angeles, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnathan Foster, Glenn Halley, Junior Halley, Mark Kee, Dennis Rowe, D.J. Rowe and Jay Stewart.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice.

Donald Ray Jeffries

Donald Ray Jeffries, 52, of Holly Springs, died June 22, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was a member of Mt. Peel MB Church in the Laws Hill community and a truck driver with Penske in Oxford.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 27 at Adolphus Chapel CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joseph Wyatt officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Willie Mae McKinney Jeffries of Holly Springs; two stepchildren, Carl Nunnally of Holly Springs, Kimberly Nunnally of Oxford; his mother, Vera Mitchell Jeffries of Memphis, Tenn.; his father, Dempsey Jeffries of Memphis, Tenn.; five sisters, Delois Smith, Debra Williams, Vivian Jeffries, Gwendolyn Jeffries, Karole Harris, all of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Dempsey Jeffries Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lorenzo Jeffries.

Pallbearers were Cedric Faulkner, Ray Hurd, Randy Thompson, Tim Oliver, Jimmy L. Perkins, Joe Wilson and Johnny Nunally. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Nunnally, Christopher Byers, Michael Perkins, Grady McKinney, Don Williams, Lawrence Smith and Leo Williams.

Taylor Lee Vinson

Taylor Lee (T.L.) Vinson, 72, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 11, 2007 at Overton Park Health Care Center in Memphis. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Golden Gate Cathedral, 3240 James Road in Memphis, Tenn. and a retired brake mechanic for Cambell 66 Truckline.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. on July 20 at the funeral home and at the church July 21 from 10-10:50 a.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on July 21 at Golden Gate Cathedral. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Bishop Edward H. Stephens Jr. will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Gracie Alexander Vinson of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Paula Vinson of Memphis, Tenn., Pamela DeShields of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, Kenneth Vinson of Olive Branch; a sister, Rolinda Hopkins of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; three brothers, Emmitt Vinson of East St. Louis, Ill., Claude Vinson of Holly Springs, Joe Vinson of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Martin Vinson, Claude Vinson Jr., Milton Stewart, Marvin Vinson, William Madison III, Melvin Anderson Jr.

Ronald Alvis Bradley

Ronald Alvis Bradley, 66, of Hickory Flat, died Oct. 27, 2007 at his home. He was a retired Coast Guard Vietnam veteran and also served six years with the Navy.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2007 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory Flat.

He leaves his wife, Gordena Bradley; a son, Ronald Bradley Jr. of Hickory Flat; two daughters, Kim Recharte of Camarillo, Calif., Taeng-On Rachchusiri of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Wayne Bradley of Pahoa, Ha.; four sisters, Billie Margaret Fowler, Ola Corine Meadows, both of Las Vegas, Shelby Jean Plemmons of Hickory Flat, Elizabeth Wolff of Michigan; and six grandchildren.

Thelma Louise Garrett

Thelma Louise Garrett, 80, of Byhalia, died Nov. 1, 2007 in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.

She leaves her husband of 60 years, Buford Garrett; her son, Phillip Garrett of Munford, Tenn.; a sister, Betty Overby; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Garrett Cox.

Walter McDerment

Walter (Boots) McDerment, 83, of Lucedale, died Nov. 2, 2007 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Southern Baptist, a real estate broker and a USS Enterprise Navy veteran of World War II.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Moscow, Tenn. Bro. Bobby Williams officiated.

He leaves his wife, Lavelle McDerment; three sons, Mitchell McDerment, Michael McDerment, both of Honea Path, S.C., Lynn McDerment of Lucedale; a daughter, Patsy Holcomb of Moscow, Tenn.; a brother, Fred McDerment of Tucson, Az.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.
