Edgar Falkner

Edgar Falkner, 74, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died Feb. 24, 2008 at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Ill. He was retired from automotive bumper plating.

Services were held at 12 noon on March 1 at Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. A.V. Warren Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Cathy Flowers of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Leonard Flowers-Falkner, Larry Flowers-Falkner, Derrick Faulkner, all of Chicago, Ill.; seven sisters, Gladys Young of Chicago, Ill., Erma Walker, Mattie Walker, both of Holly Springs, Bobra Walker, Wheelock Patrick, both of Harvey, Ill., Ella Washington of Memphis, Tenn., Sarah Summerville of Arlington, Va.; two brothers, Kent Falkner of Holly Springs, Bobbie Falkner of Flossmoor, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were nephews and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Bobbie Falkner, Gravil Falkner, Kent Falkner, brothers-in-law, Leonard Flowers-Falkner, Larry Flowers-Falkner, Derrick Falkner and church stewards.

Rylee Jason Fisk

Rylee Jason Fisk, 3 months, died Feb. 29, 2008 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on March 3 in Memorial Park Southwoods. Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Derik and Gail Fisk of Byhalia; his brother, Grady James Fisk of Byhalia; grandparents, Terry and Sherry Fisk of Olive Branch, Kim and Lee Rippee of Senatobia; great-grandparents, Floyd and Mamie Fisk of Coffeeville, Bill Rippee of Warrenton, Mo., Rex and Winnie Williams of Olive Branch and Estelle Burns of Corinth.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandmother, Betty Ann Rippee.

Chester E. Hutchens

Chester E. Hutchens, 62, of Waterford, died March 1, 2008 at his home. He was Pentecostal and a water tower welder.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cornersville Cemetery. Bro. Tony Roberts and Bro. Kip Barrier officiated.

He leaves his wife, Tracey Hutchens; his mother, Louise Hutchens of Potts Camp; two sons, Gary Maxwell Hutchens, Eric Brooks Hutchens, both of Waterford; three daughters, Ronnie Gayle Hutchens of Potts Camp, Autumn Louise Hutchens of Waterford, Jamie Lynn Douglas of Orange Co., Calif.; three brothers, Buford Hutchens of Conway, Ark., Aaron Hutchens of Potts Camp, Kenneth Hutchens of Hickory Flat; and five sisters, Lavon Owens of Saucier, Kathy Stroud of Sardis, Virginia McCallen of Walls, Denise Hamby of Arlington, Tenn., Lynda Williams of Potts Camp.

Penny Allgood Heaston

Penny Allgood Heaston, 42, of Red Banks, died Feb. 27, 2008 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. She was a member of Friendship Assembly of God.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Virgil Scherff and Bro. Clay Hall officiated.

She leaves her husband, Thomas Heaston; two sons, Andrew Heaston, Tyler Heaston, both of Red Banks; parents, Ernest and Myrtle Allgood of Red Banks; and a brother, David Allgood of Red Banks.

James Arthur Holland Jr.

James Arthur Holland Jr., 82, of Byhalia, died March 3, 2008 at his home. He was a member of New Garden Baptist Church and a tool and die worker. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Garden Baptist Church Cemetery in Independence. Rev. John Johnson officiated.

He leaves his wife, Betty Holland, two sons, James Arthur Holland of Hernando, David L. Holland of Jackson, Ga.; two daughters, Judith L. Holland of Memphis, Tenn., Delores M. Boyer of Corinth; a sister, Bettye Katherine Sullinge of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Annie Mae Hughes Jones

Annie Mae Hughes Jones, 86, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 24, 2008 at her home. She was a member of the church stewardess board and a retired bus driver from ICS Head Start after 20 years.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 1 at Isom Chapel CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Clem Jones; nine daughters, Alean Gatewood, Jeanette Isom, Annette Tucker, Paulette Mays, all of Holly Springs; Mae Lean Brooks, Jessie Davis, Jimmie E. Hughes, Minnie Luellen, Annie Walker, all of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Chester Jones, Christopher Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Willie B. Hughes of Memphis, Tenn.; and 61 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Columbus Jones, Willie Melvin Jones.

Pallbearers were Jason Blake, Dexter Luellen, Marcus Tucker, Frankie Isom Jr., Lee Cedric Gatewood, Ervin Luellen, Anthony Tucker, Warren Jones, Travis Mays, Jimmy Jones and Christopher Jones II. Honorary pallbearers were Chester Jones and Christopher Jones.

James E. Martin

James E. Martin, 86, of Arlington, Tx., died Feb. 24, 2008 at Arlington Villa Nursing Center. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Services were held at 12 noon on March 1 at North Hopewell Baptist Church in Taylor. Burial was in Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Eulogist was Rev. Jamuel Johnson. Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves seven children, Dewitt Martin of Memphis, Tenn., Klyde Martin of Los Angeles, Calif., Rendrick Martin, Rederick Martin, Chris Carter, all of Detroit, Mich., Patricia Hairstone of Bolingbrook, Ill., Kimberly Lewis of Arlington, Tx., Latasha Martin of Jackson; a brother, Setoria Martin of Cleveland; four sisters, Ardie Mae Boose of New Albany, Cleora Thompson of Burton, Mich., Robertha Simmons of Greenwood, Edna Scott of Leland; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Velma Sharp

Velma Sharp, 91, of Lamar, died March 1, 2008. She was the widow of James Sharp, a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church and owner and operator of Sharp’s Grocery.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery. Bro. Jim Polk officiated.

She leaves a son, Glen Sharp of Lamar; a daughter-in-law, Martha Sharp of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wade Sharp.
