Calista Rose Harrison

Calista Rose Harrison, 84, of Michigan City, died Oct. 26, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Robert Harrison. She was Catholic and a food service supervisor with Baptist Hospital.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in East View Cemetery in Union City, Tenn. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Bob Harrison of Michigan City, James Harrison of Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Fred Lattus of Owensboro, Ky., Herman Lattus of Hickman, Ky., Lawrence Lattus, Louis Lattus both of Apple Valley, Calif.; a sister, Anita Youree of Hickman, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Ann Harrison, Myriam Anita Moore.

John Kloha

John Kloha, 80, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 31, 2009 at Christopher’s Personal Care Home. A native of Detroit, Mich., he was a Korean War veteran. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Michigan State University, where he was president of the Michigan State Marching Band. In 1960, he located the Wurlitzer Piano Co. in Holly Springs, where he served as procurement manager for 21 years, and retired from Oxford Wire and Cable Services as vice-president of manufacturing.

A Rotarian for 47 years, he served as president of the Holly Springs Club and received a Paul Harris award from the Oxford Club. In 2004, he co-chaired the Rotary District Conference.

He was a director of the Oxford/Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, commissioner for the Regional Mental Health Center, president of Tallahatchie Manufacturer’s Assoc. and was recognized for 45 years perfect attendance at the NMIDA annual meeting.

He is a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the Marshall Academy board of directors.

Services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 2. at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kristopher Morris officiated, and scripture readings were given by Rev. Al Boyson, Rev. Norm Groteluschen, Rev. Andrew Brondos, and Rev. Mark Goble.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Ruth Kloha; a son, John F. Kloha; three daughters, Debbie Hallman (Ken) of Arlington Heights, Ill., Pam Barnett (Jimbo) of Los Angeles, Calif., Carole Elliott (Steven) of Olive Branch; a brother, David Kloha (Betty) of Carleton, Mich.; six grandchildren, Anna, Rick, Blake Hallman of Arlington Heights, Ill., Allie Barnett of Los Angeles, Calif., Charlie and Jack Elliott of Olive Branch.

Pallbearers were Tim Liddy, Chris Liddy, Bucky Hellwig, Bob Wallace, Bill Janssen, Larry Molaison, Ron Coleman, Ken Bender, and Bill Moore.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Rotary Foundation.

Levi “T” Smith

Levi “T” Smith, 86, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 31, 2009 at his home. He was a member of Christ Temple COGIC, a Sunday school teacher, an elder in the church, a U.S. Army veteran and member of American Legion Post No. 250. He was a retired security officer at Rust College.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Sat., Nov. 7 at Christ Temple COGIC with Supt. Elder Pass officiating. Burial will be in the Sales Family Cemetery in Moscow, Tenn. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Dr. Nellie J. Smith; a daughter, Paula Brown of Jackson; seven sons, Bobby Mitchell of Jackson, Perry Smith, Joseph Smith, both of Holly Springs, Ulysses Smith of Chicago, Ill., Levi Smith Jr. of Port Arthur, Tx., Michael Smith, Reginald Smith, both of Chicago; two sisters, Virgie LaFlora, Vessie Gatewood, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Leroy Smith, five sisters and five brothers, including former Holly Springs mayor Eddie Lee Smith Jr.

Berklen Summers Jr.

Berklen Summers Jr., 71, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 23, 2009 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a retired concrete finisher.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 31 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his caregiver and nephew, Charles Duncan of Holly Springs; two sisters, Liza Thomas of Holly Springs, Mary Macklin of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Jeff Summers of Memphis, Tenn.

Pallbearers were Darian Jones, Ocie Taylor, Calvin Craine, Jarvis Duncan, Kendrick Duncan and Willie Jeffries. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Duncan, Stanley Duncan, Antonio Duncan, Jeff Summlears, Curtis Summlers and Lawrence Walton.

Nell Sharp Thomas

Nell Sharp Thomas, 97, of Michigan City, died Oct. 29, 2009 at Somerville Hospital in Somerville, Tenn. She was the widow of Reid Thomas, a Methodist and a retired U.S. postal clerk with USPS.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31 at Harris Chapel. Burial was in Valley Grove Cemetery in Michigan City. Bro. William Kemp officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Kenny Thomas of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Marjorie Burrow; a stepdaughter, Catherine Pope of Bolton, Tenn.; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Arnett Woods

Arnett Woods, 60, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 24, 2009 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired factory worker and a life member of Wall Hill Church of Christ.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 31 at Thyatira Family Life Center in Senatobia. Burial was in Smith Grove Church Cemetery in Holly Springs. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Edna E. Woods; a daughter, Cassandra Graham of Coldwater; two sons, Derrick Woods, Dewayne Woods, both of Chicago, Ill.; his father, Arlandrew Woods of Coldwater; four sisters, Izella Buford, Lizzie Pelts, Ann Woods, all of Chicago, Ill., Shelia Woods of Coldwater; five brothers, Eddie B. Woods, Ezell Woods, both of Chicago, Ill., University Woods of Coldwater, Warren Woods of Memphis, Tenn., Anthony Woods of Coldwater; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Charlotte Ann Wren

Charlotte Ann Wren, 64, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 1, 2009 at her home. She was a Baptist and a tax preparer.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

She leaves two sons, John E. Wrenn of New Iberia, La., Stacey M. Wrenn of Holly Springs; a daughter, Debra Hubbard of Southaven; a special friend, Kenneth Wolff of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.

Michael R. Bright

Michael R. Bright, 46, of Potts Camp, died October 8, 2009.

Services were held Oct. 12, 2009. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Lisa Bright; two sons, Devin R. Bright of Byhalia, Matt Bright of Potts Camp; his mother, Betty Bright of Water Valley; a sister, Barbara Delong of Water Valley.

Pallbearers were family and friends.
