Christopher (Eric) Jones

Christopher (Eric) Jones, 44, of Covington, Tenn., died Aug. 15, 2014, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was Baptist and a teacher.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

He leaves his father, Johnny Jones of Covington; two sons, Drew Jones, Blake Jones, both of Greenville, S.C.; his brother, Chase Jones of Manchester, Tenn., and his fiancée, Darla Stricklin and her children, Emily and Zack Stricklin, all of New Site.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Edlin Jones; and his grandparents, Clifton and Jean Edlin and Rudy and Mary Lou Jones.

Elgin Perry Sr.

Elgin “Will” Perry Sr., 79, of Michigan City, died Aug. 6, 2014 at his home. He was the widower of Virginia Collins. At an early age he joined Samuel Chapel MB Church. He graduated from Old Salem High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1954 to 1962, earning the rank of Airman 1st Class. He served in Korea. He retired as a truck driver from P.A. Johnson Trucking Company in Broadview, Ill., and was a longtime member of the local 705 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters of Chicago. After retirement, he moved back to Ashland.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 15 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland. Rev. Rickey A. Ball, pastor, was eulogist. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Charlie; three children, Elgin Jr., Clarence, both of Illinois, Allen of Wisconsin; five stepchildren; five sisters, Lue Gennie Taylor, Hazel Everett, Bernice (Arthur) Dowdy, Betty Simmons, all of Illinois, Marie Whitmore (John) of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Frank Perry; four sisters, Tinny Bryson, Flossie Patterson, Mazzie Starks and Ruby Perry; and a daughter, Charlotte L. Griffin.

Pallbearers were Ray Patterson, Elvis Dixon, Jessie Bryson Jr., David Woods, Cornelius Robinson and Johnnie Woods. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Perry, Allen Perry, Elgin Perry Jr., Henry Taylor, Arthur Dowdy and Ralph Taylor Jr.

Debra Elizabeth Ross

Debra Elizabeth Ross, 64, of Slayden, died Aug. 15, 2014, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Slayden Baptist Church and a maintenance worker with Kellog MFG.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Slayden Cemetery.

She leaves two sisters, Patsy F. LeBlanc of Memphis, Paula A. Hunsucker of Slayden; two brothers, Johnny R. Ross Sr., W.M. “Butch” Ross, both of Slayden.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hall; and a nephew, Zach Ross.

Rev. G.T. Thompson

Rev. G.T. Thompson, 62, of Lamar, died Aug. 13, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. He was a member of Harris Chapel MB Church, a member of Powell Chapel Lodge 339. He received his master’s degree in theology and a doctorate degree in ministry. He retired as pastor/minister from St. John MB Church in Ripley. He was a retired teacher from Benton County School System.

Visitation will be Aug. 22 from 2-7 p.m. and with the family from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and Aug. 23 at the church from 1-1:55 p.m.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 23 at New Dimension Salt and Light Ministries. Elder Jeremiah Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Thompson Family Cemetery in Lamar. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Willie Fay LeSueur Thompson; a son, Kevin (Tara) Thompson of Missouri City, Texas.; two daughters, Monica Thompson, LaToya (Carl) Robinson of Lamar; his mother, Thelma Johnson Thompson of Lamar; a sister, Thelma Gordon of Lamar; six brothers, Loyal Thompson Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Frank Thompson of Lamar, Danny Thompson of Milford, Kan., Gregory Thompson of Lamar, Ronald Thompson of Memphis, Tenn., Donald Thompson of Lamar; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Percy Thompson.

Cassandra Elizabeth Wilson

Cassandra Elizabeth Wilson, 52, of Byhalia, died Aug. 10, 2014, in Oxford. She was disabled.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16 at Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church in Victoria. Burial was in Taylor Chapel Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her mother, Seggretta Wilson; three sisters, Darlene Moore of Memphis, Tenn., Rachel Williams of Byhalia, Verna Rodgers of Coldwater; and six brothers, Ahart Wilson Jr., Alfonzie Wilson, Major Bronson, all of Byhalia, Cedric Wilson of Olive Branch, Wendell Tennial of Memphis and Frank Wilson of Jacksonville, NC.

Jerry Fitch Sr.

Jerry S. Fitch Sr., 75, died August 12, 2014, at Christopher’s Personal Care Home in Holly Springs. He was born April 12, 1939, to the late Thedore B. Fitch and Lurlean Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Holly Springs. Jerry started his first business in 1957, a small service station. He stayed in that line of work for over 40 years.

A lot of people didn’t know the real Jerry Fitch -- the one who paid for so many kids to go to school, who couldn’t afford it; the Jerry Fitch that filled so many propane tanks at churches and never sent them a bill. The Jerry Fitch that, no matter how many times I (Johnny) messed up, was always there to pick me up and love me unconditionally. The Jerry Fitch that had a heart of gold. The ones that knew him best know that.

On Aug. 12, Heaven received a very special person and I know all the angels rejoiced when he came home.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Hill Crest Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 15. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Sandra Day Fitch; two sons, Jerry Fitch Jr., of Collierville, Tenn., and Johnny Fitch of Holly Springs; a daughter, Kaylea Fitch of Holly Springs; step-children Christopher Huey, John Austin Valentine; grandchildren Savannah Fitch, John Gray Fitch, Trey Fitch, Shelby Fitch, Madelyn Huey; a great-grandchild, Olivia Page Fitch; a brother, W.O. Fitch of Holly Springs; and a sister, Ann Thornton of Clarksdale. He also leaves his first wife, Martha Fitch, who was his caregiver.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Fitch and Jimmy Fitch.

Pallbearers were Jerry Bolden, Everette Edlin, Scott Robinson, Bo Fitch, Jack Leopard and Sammy Whaley.

Sandra Elizabeth Hill Miller

Sandra Elizabeth Hill Miller, 73, of Holly Springs, MS, died August 17, 2014, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tenn., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a strong, loving, graceful, beautiful and indomitable spirit and will always be remembered and treasured as our irrepressible Sassy.

She is survived by her children, Mark Miller (Maia) of Holly Springs, MS, Donnie Miller (Lisa) of Collierville, TN, Mindy Miller Gresham (Steve) and Joey Miller, both of Holly Springs, MS; brothers, Bob Hill Jr. (Janet), Tom Hill (Margaret), David Hill (Patti); sister, Lauren Hill; grandchildren, R. Graham Miller (Leslie), Cathryn Miller Richey (Drew), Ann Elizabeth Miller, Joseph Miller, Steven Gresham II (Masey), and Ellen Gresham Dodson (Houston); one great-grandchild, Thomas Graham Richey; several nieces, nephews and cousins; Dora Anderson, Julie DeBardelaben, very special caregivers, Erma Langston and Susan Perkins, and a world of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Graham Miller and her parents, Robert Speer and Elizabeth DeGraw Hill.

A visitation with family will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Holly Springs on Friday, August 22, starting at 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at the church. The Rev. Dr. Robert Milton Winter will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 164 S. Memphis St., Holly Springs, MS 38635, or the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, 1520 W. Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017.

Holly Springs Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Jerry Leon Collins

Jerry Leon Collins, 71, of Lamar, died Aug. 2, 2014. He was a supervisor for US Airways, a Navy veteran, a member of the MS National Guard and the American Legion. He was co-founder of the Rossville Academy Booster Club as well as the voice of the football team for 12 years.

Visitation will be held Aug. 7 from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 8 at Slayden Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Slayden Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Jonnie Collins; three sons, Jason Reaves (Amanda), Derek Reaves (Karen), Josh Reaves (Valerie), all of Lamar; four daughters, Britney Waddle (Cody) of Lamar, Candy Featherstone of Collierville, Tenn., Leona Collins of Georgia, Penny Jones of Collierville; three brothers, Archie Collins of Weir, Charles Collins of Longview, Billy Blankenship of Sturgis; a sister, Angie McGinsis of Sturgis; and 14 grandchildren.
