Emma B. Allen Franklin

Emma B. Allen Franklin, 92, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Michigan City, died Feb. 12, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was the widow of Bevis Franklin Sr., a church mother and member of Order of Eastern Star.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Sims Chapel MB church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Willie Franklin of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons Bevis Franklin Jr. and Richard J. (Pete) Franklin Sr.

Pallbearers were Cory Franklin, Barry Franklin, Tavares Woodward, Jerry Franklin, Gary Henderson, Marquel Henderson.

Jessie T. Hampton

Jessie T. (Jick) Hampton, 75, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 12, 2008 at his home. He was a member of Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar, former member of Masonic Lodge and machine operator with Burlington-Northern Sante Fe Railway for over 32 years, retired.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Alonzo Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Lucy Mae Ayers Hampton; four daughters, Martha Hampton of Chicago, Ill., Evon Mason of Memphis, Tenn., Jessie Mae Hampton, Armintra Hampton-Campbell, both of Holly Springs; four sons, James E. Hampton, Larry L. Hampton, both of Germantown, Md., Freddie L. Hampton, Robert L. Hampton, both of Holly Springs; two sisters, Susie Mae McKinney of Michigan City, Marie Fulmore of Detroit, Mich. and three brothers, Robert Hampton, Emeals Williams, both of Memphis, Tenn., Albert Everett of Gary, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two children, Sarah Hampton and Jimmy Hampton.

Pallbearers were employees of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. Honorary pallbearers were Freddie Hampton, Robert Hampton, Willie Mason, James Hampton Sr., Larry Hampton and Frederick Hampton.

Johnny Ray Herndon

Johnny Ray Herndon, 74, of Waterford, died Feb. 15, 2008 at his home. He was a teamster with Yellow Freight and a veteran of the U.S. Army, a cattle farmer, and preschool Sunday school teacher for over 20 years.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17 at First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Margaret Herndon; two sons, William Scott Herndon of Memphis, Tenn., Mark Daniel Herndon of Collierville, Tenn.; a daughter, Jennifer Tufts of Oklahoma, Okla.; two brothers, Jesse Earl Herndon of Okolona, Lawrence E. Herndon of Germantown, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Scott Herndon, Mark Herndon, David Tufts, Austin Herndon, Daniel Herndon, Colby Herndon and Joshua Herndon.

Rethie Reliford

Rethie Reliford, 80, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 17, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North MS. She was the widow of Willie Gene Reliford. She joined Hopewell No. 2 MB Church in Hudsonville at an early age and later joined Hopewell No. 1 in Holly Springs. She was a choir member. She served on the mothers board, kitchen committee and missionary board. She retired from the Holly Springs School District after 22-1/2 years of service.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 21 at Hopewell No. 1 MB Church. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Leroy James officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her son, James William Reliford; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of St. Louis, Mo.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Luellen and Susie Holland.

Pallbearers were Bilethon Autry, Fharon Hicks, Marcus Hicks, Thadeus Zinn, Shauntarus Wicks and James Riddle.

William Harold Lewis

William Harold Lewis, 71, of Lamar, died Feb. 12, 2008 at his home. He was an Army veteran of Korea and a retired law enforcement officer at Marshall County.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery. Bro. David Bishop officiated.

He leaves his wife, Amy H. Lewis; a son, Dennis Lewis of Olive Branch; three daughters, Vicki Thomas of Collierville, Tenn., Charlotte Person of Slayden, Jeni Sutton of Collierville, Tenn.; two brothers, Jimmy Lewis, Danny Lewis, both of Slayden; two sisters, Sharon Osburn of Cordova, Tenn., Dorothy Spurlock of Olive Branch; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Marshall Co. Sherrif’s Department.

David Logan Roberson

David Logan Roberson, 54, of Byhalia, died Feb. 12, 2008. He was a Methodist and auto productor with BTE Racing.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Liberty Methodist Church. Rev. William Kemp officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Debra Roberson; a son, Shawn McDaniel of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Frankie Roberson of Ashland; three brothers, Jimmy Roberson, Larry Roberson, Glynn Roberson, all of Ashland; a sister, Carolyn Whaley of Sardis; and four grandchildren.

Rev. Enoch Walker

Rev. Enoch Walker, 78, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 7, 2008 at his home. He was a minister at Free Springs CME Church in Harmontown, retired in 2001.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial was in Mt. Gilead CME Church Cemetery. Elder Hugh W. Jones officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Winnie P. Franklin Walker of Holly Springs; three daughters, Easter Jackson of Holly Springs, Laverne Kimmons, Edna Marie Childres, both of Aurora, Ill.; five sons, Joseph Walker, Melvin Walker, Milton Walker, Charles Walker, all of Holly Springs, Willie T. Walker of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Corrine Brown, Lillie Mae Hardin, both of Holly Springs and two brothers, Robert Lee Walker of Chicago, Ill., Willie A. Walker of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sylvester Walker.

Pallbearers were Ivory Walker, Henry Martin, Glen Hardin, James Walker Jr., Joe Watson and Lee Walker. Honorary pallbearers were Milton Walker, Charles Walker, Melvin Walker, Joseph Walker, Willie T. Walker and the ministers of the Northeast Mississippi Region.

Nathaniel Woods

Nathaniel Woods, 53, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Coldwater, died Feb. 7, 2008 at his home. He was a machine operator.

Services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 16 at Wall Hill Church of Christ in Coldwater. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Sharon Boyd; a daughter, Sharlene Williams of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Mondrakco Butler, David Williams, both of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Izella Buford, Lizzie Pelt, Ann Woods, all of Chicago, Ill., Sheila Woods of Coldwater; six brothers, Eddie Woods, Ezell Woods, both of Chicago, Ill., Arnette Woods of Chulahoma, University Johnny Woods of Coldwater, Anthony Woods of Coldwater, Warren Woods of Memphis, Tenn. and one grandchild.
