Rosie Miller-Blake

Rosie (Tiny) Miller-Blake, 74, of Oxford, died April 1, 2009 at Baptist Hospital-North Miss. in Oxford. She was the widow of Essie Blake Jr. She was a native of Lafayette County and a retired housecare worker from University of MS.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 4 at Second Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Andrew Robinson Sr. officiated. Hodges-Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, James (Cookie) Miller of Columbus; a grandson she raised, Tarvarcus (Rel) Miller of Oxford; a sister, Etta Lee Miller of Oxford; two brothers, Arthur (Ted) Miller of Oxford, Willie Earl Miller of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Delois Miller of Holly Springs; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry (Peo) Miller.

Pallbearers were Scottie Miller, Carey Miller, Elliott Miller, Courtney Marshall, Kenneth Miller and Marco Harris. Honorary pallbearers were James Miller, Tavarcus Miller, Willie Miller and Arthur Miller.

Virginia Carpenter

Virginia Carpenter, 92, of Lamar, died April 2, 2009 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Turner Carpenter, a member of Lindenwood Christian Church and a secretary with Coated Abrasive Co.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on April 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery.

She leaves several nieces and nephews.

Eliza Young Fitts

Eliza Young Fitts, 96, of Holly Springs, died March 31, 2009 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Obo Fitts and a retired nurse’s aide.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 4 at Mt. Gilead CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two special cousins who cared for her, Robert Jackson, Mary Frances Jackson, both of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Darryl Jackson, Roderick Jackson, Fredrick Jackson Jr., Darren Jackson, Roderick Jackson Jr. and Robert Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were her cousins.

Larry Hamer

Larry Hamer, 51, of Holly Springs, died April 1, 2009 at Capital Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, La. He was a mail carrier for The U.S. Postal Service.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. on April 5 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Jason Hamer officiated.

He leaves his father, George Scales of Holly Springs; a friend and mother of his two children, Brenda Hamer; two children, Jason Hamer of Byhalia, Miriam Harris of Holly Springs; siblings, Loyce Hamer, Cara Hamer, Marc Scales, all of Holly Springs, Jocelyn Raimey, Tomara Jackson, both of Hattisburg, Patricia Hamer of St. Louis, Mo., Virginia Ware of Olive Branch, Ann Thomas of Memphis, Tenn.; and grandmothers, Catherine Graham of Chicago, Ill, Earlean LeSeur of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mordeen Tally Cato; and a brother, David Hamer.

Lizzie Ruth Jones Keys

Lizzie Ruth Jones Keys, 83, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died March 21, 2009 at Provena Mercy Medical Center Hospice Care in Aurora. She was a member of Greater Love MB Church in Aurora, Ill., where she served on the Mother’s Board and Pastor Aid Committee. She was employed 25 years at the Vendo Mfg. Co. in Aurora, Ill., and also at the Assoc. for Industrial Development.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on March 31 at Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. John E. Nabors officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Cheryl Neal of Montgomery, Ill.; two sons, Odell Brannon, Ernest Jones, both of Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Juliet Williams of Holly Springs; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Prince Brannon; a grandson, Larry Brannon; sisters, Selena and Mary.

Pallbearers were Rennell Stewart, Alvin Simmons, Earl Collins, Lonzo Harden, Leon Harden and Rev. Larry Clark.

Wilma Clifton McGregor

Wilma Clifton McGregor, 56, of Hickory Flat, died March 30, 2009 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab, where she was employed as a nurse.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 2 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she was a member. Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks and Bro. Bill Thompson officiated. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Wayne Lamar McGregor; a son, Steve McGregor of Hickory Flat; four daughters, Angie Wooten of Myrtle, Kristi Glasson of New Albany, Niki Wicker of Hickory Flat, Stacy Dillard of Ecru; her mother, Marjorie Clifton of Hickory Flat; four brothers, Coleman Clifton of Red Banks, Ward Clifton, Ricky Clifton, both of Hickory Flat, and Jerry Clifton of Ashland; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry C. Clifton; and granddaughter, Madison McGregor

Pallbearers were Chad Glasson, Andy Dillard, Drew Wooten, Ty McGregor, Stephen Wicker, Billy Wooten, Will Wooten and Tristan Glasson.

Honorary pallbearers were Brad Clifton, Brian Clifton, Blake Clifton and Jerry McGregor.

Douglas Kent Lipscomb Jr.

Douglas Kent Lipscomb Jr., 40, of Oxford, formerly of Holly Springs, died April 4, 2009 at Hospice of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Doug was a member of Byhalia United Methodist Church, Byhalia. He was a cabinet maker, a painter, started a pressure cleaning and maintenance business in Florida, started working in inventory management in Atlanta, Ga., and continued working in the field as the family moved to Holly Springs. Doug made the Walk to Emmaus in 2006.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held April 11, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 201 SE 13th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, with Dr. David Haun, and at “The Flame” Byhalia United Methodist Church, Church Street, Byhalia, on April 19 at 3 p.m. with Dr. Jim Biedenharn.

He leaves his beloved wife, Dawn Marie Papineau Lipscomb and three young sons, Ryan Douglas Lipscomb, Spencer Riley Lipscomb, and Aaron Jack Lipscomb all of Oxford; his parents, Douglas Kent Lipscomb and Karen Kay Lipscomb of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandmothers Lavon Kenyon and Mary Jean Simons and his siblings, Darren Edward Lipscomb of Queen Creek, Ariz., Kara Jean Botts and Husband Troy of Boynton Beach, Fla.

The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, memorials to be sent to “The Flame” Byhalia United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6, Byhalia, MS 38611; Wings Cancer Foundation, 100 North Humphreys Blvd., Memphis, TN 38120 or the Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
