Ina L. Wilson

Ina Sue Lewis Wilson of Chalmette, La., died Sept. 27, 2000, at her home after a short illness.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown. Burial will be in the Lewis Family Cemetery in Walthall County.

She was born June 26, 1931, in Walthall County. She was the daughter of W.T. “Tab” and Ella Hall Lewis.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, J.C. Lewis of McComb and A.B. Lewis of Walthall County; three sisters, Avis Holmes of Hammond, La., Bessie Lott of Bogalusa, La., and Genevieve Lewis of Walthall County.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Eugene Wilson

Sr.; one son Eugene Wilson Jr., and his wife Tina Marie Raia Wilson; three grandsons and their wives, Brandon Wilson Sr., Clifton Wilson and Dwayne Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, all from Chalmette; and three sisters, Eula Holmes, Dolly Rushing, and Betty Lou Holmes all of Tylertown.

Sam Amacker

Sam Amacker, 58, of Houston, Carter C.O.G.I.C. in the Peoria community, with Elder Sam Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Amacker was born Aug. 8, 1942, in Magnolia. He was the son of Willie and Rosa Lee Amacker.

Mr. Amacker was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Amacker of Houston; two daughters, Gwen Amacker and Cournet Ledet, both of Houston; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Rosa Lee Amacker of Houma, La., the Rev. Matthew Amacker and wife Dorothy, and Levi and Sandra Amacker, all of Houston; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Lee and Elder L.E. Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village.

She graduated from Woodland High School in Chickasaw County and attended Port Arthur College in Port Arthur, Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village or First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1700 Delaware Ave., McComb, MS 39648.

Virne L. 'Nudy' Abraham

Virne Lee “Nudy” Abraham, 62, of McComb, died Sept. 25, 2000, in an automobile accident in Liberty.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Smithdale, with the Rev. Kenneth Haynes Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Abraham was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Amite County. He was the son of Anner Jackson Abraham of McComb and the late Annize Abraham.

He was a truck driver for Waste Management Inc. many years and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Abraham was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Bernard Abraham; and one sister, Hancie Hill.

Survivors include his mother; his wife, Diane Abraham of McComb; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Cornelius and Sandra of Bogue Chitto, Charlie and Lisa of Magnolia and Marcus of McComb; one daughter, Sonja of McComb; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Deborah Abraham of Dallas; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Hattie Alexander, Allie Mae Summerville, Mollie and Larry Branch and Sylvia Diane and Tom Ellis, all of McComb, Bessie and Henry Myles of Moss Point and Lillie and Belton Terrbone of Lincoln, Neb.; one aunt, Lula Wells of McComb; five brothers-in-law and their wives, J.W. Hill, Richard and Eunice White, James Thomas and Brenda White, Ellis White and Wendell and Celestine White, all of McComb; one sister-in-law, Carrie Barksdale of Chicago; three grandchildren, Terra and Chuckie, both of Magnolia, and Victoria of Liberty; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Willie J. Spears

Willie James Spears, 76, of Gloster, died Sept. 24, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., after a lengthy illness.

Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Anderson Funeral Home in Gloster. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion C.M.E. Church on Highway 48 in Centreville, with the Rev. Willie R. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Spears was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Amite County. He was the son of Ervin and Gertrude Spears.

He was a retired longshoreman who worked in New Orleans. He was a member of Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II.

Mr. Spears was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charlie, B.J. and Joseph Ross; and two sisters, Fannie and Dorothy Ross.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Bland Spears of Gloster; four sons, Michael, Anthony, Bruce and Gregory Spears, all of Seattle, Wash.; four daughters, Willie Mae Banks of Centreville, Ethel Howard of New Roads, La., and Rita Spears and Gail Marie Spears, both of Seattle; one adopted daughter, Pearlina Bland of Centreville; three brothers, Pete Lemar of Seattle, Jonell Ross of D’Lo and Willie James of Oakland, Georgia Mae Turner of North Carolina and Louise Barnes of McComb; two friends, Clara Bratton and Dorothy Anderson; three stepsons; four stepdaughters; 10 brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary L. Bates

Mary L. Bates, 81, of Tylertown, died there Sept. 26, 2000, at Billdora Nursing Home.

Visitation is 1-7 tonight at Washington Funeral Home in Tylertown. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Tylertown, with the Rev. Julius Jacob officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bates was born July 11, 1919, in Tylertown. She was the daughter of John and Letha Lee Williams.

She worked at a Headstart center in Tylertown as a teacher, and was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church.

Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emerson Bates Sr.; one son, Emerson Bates Jr.; and one brother Robert Williams.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary P. Bates of Tylertown; one sister, Allean Martin of McComb; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John Jr. Dean

John Dean, 65, of Tylertown, died Sept. 28, 2000, at his residence.

Visitation is 6-10 tonight with Rosary services at 7 p.m. at Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. David Millican and Father Mike Nance officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Mr. Dean was born July 9, 1935, in Monticello, Ark. He was the son of Johnny D. Dean and Leona Wallace Dean.

He was a maintenance man. He was a former resident of Algiers and Belle Chase, La.

Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Emma Alexandra Dean Meche; seven brothers and sisters, Marie, Dorothy, James, Donald, Bill, Roland and Jimmy Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie Naquin Dean of Tylertown; one daughter and son-in-law, Halonna Dean Meche and Ronald Meche of Tylertown; one granddaughter, Nicole Meche; four stepchildren, Kathy Dwyer, Sharon Molina, Brian Donner and Shannon Babish; 12 stepgrandchildren;, three sisters, Kathryn D. Rodriguez, Bobbie D. Hicks and Joann D. Talley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lula M. Nettles

Lula Adeline McManus Nettles, 98, of Meadville, died of heart failure Sept. 27, 2000, at Meadville Nursing Home.

Visitation is 5-8 tonight at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, and 9 a.m. Saturday until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Marvin Howard and Elder Floyd Wilkinson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County.

Mrs. Nettles was born July 1, 1902, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Stephen McManus and Rebecca Holland McManus.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Nettles was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elder Henry Lee Nettles Sr.; two sons, Henry Lee Nettles Jr. and James Harrell Nettles; a foster daughter, Emily Wicker; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Nettles of Clinton and Ernest Jewell Nettles of Lake Charles, La.; and a host of other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Paul Nettles, Stephen Nettles, Greg Nettles, Ernie Nettles, James Ray Nettles and Eddie Joe Carroll. The honorary pallbearer is Clem Steele.

Woodrow W. Higgins

Woodrow W. Higgins, 82, of Line Creek, La., died Sept. 27, 2000, at his residence.

Visitation is 6-9 tonight at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood, La. Visitation continues from 9 a.m. Saturday at Gillsburg Baptist Church until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bill Bolton will officiate. Burial will be in Gillsburg Cemetery.

Mr. Higgins was born April 28, 1918, in Liberty. He was the son of Herbert George Higgins and Emma Welch Higgins.

He was a farmer and hauler. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II.

Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William J., Marshall E., Robert S. and James Edgar Higgins; and three sisters, Estelle Rainwater, Edith Lee and Mae Dimattia.

Survivors include his wife, Lorese “Sally Hyde” Higgins of Line Creek; two sons, Donald Higgins of Gillsburg and Ronald Higgins of Slaughter, La.; two granddaughters, Sandy Higgins Walker of Slaughter and Vicki Meluis and her husband Cliff of Baton Rouge, La.; three stepdaughters, Barbara Duncan of Denham Springs, La., Donnis Byrne of Walker, La., and Linda Hyde of Kentwood; 12 stepgrandchildren, Sherrie Mason, Wendy Duncan, Vicky Sparks, Charles, Michael and Sally Alford, Tressie Alford Phelps, and Ethan, Jeremy, Cory, Houston and Mary Byrne; one brother, George H. Higgins of Baker, La.; one sister, Elizabeth Threlkeld of North Little Rock, Ark.; seven step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

James M. Bridges

James M. Bridges of Summit died Sept. 28, 2000, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in New Orleans.

Arrangements are incomplete with Young’s Funeral Home of Summit in charge.

M.C. Carroll

M.C. Carroll died Sept. 19, 2000, in Louisville, Ky.

Arrangements are incomplete with Peoples Undertaking Co. of McComb in charge.

John Burton

John Burton, 78, of McComb, died Sept. 29, 2000, at his residence.

Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite, La., from 10 a.m. until services there at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Killian Chapel Cemetery in Hillsdale, La.

He was born in Neshoba County, Jan 1, 1922. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Burton.

Mr. Burton was an insurance adjuster for GMAC. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sue Walker; a son, Bobby Burton; a stepson, Dennis McAllister; and a brother, Leon Burton.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Montalbano Burton of McComb; a grandson, Shawn Walker of Brandon; a sister, Annie Ruth McMullen of River Ridge, La.; two stepdaughters, Vicki Mason of Summit, JoAnn Hose of Amite, La.; three step-grandchildren, Tommy Ballard, Tany Taylor and Lindsey Taylor.
