Mr. Otha Thompson
HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Otha M. Thompson, 87, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Oak Haven Retirement Center in Durham.
Born July 14, 1909, in Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Georgia Lyon Thompson, who survives. He was self-employed in the construction business and was a member of Mount Zion AME Church.
Survivors other than his wife of Durham include two sons, the Rev. Charlie Thompson and Mr. Bobby Thompson, both of Hillsborough; two daughters, Ms. Dorothy L. Latta and Ms. Helen B. Kenion, both of Hillsborough; a sister, Ms. Daisy Bryant of Ivanhoe; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion AME Church by the Rev. Larnie Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Columbus Chavis
BURLINGTON - Mr. Columbus Chavis, 77, of 2664 Green Level Loop Road, died at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, at his home.
A native of Sanford, he was the husband of Mrs. Mabel Crisp Chavis, who survives, and the son of Mr. Perlie Chavis and Mrs. Louella Murphy Chavis, both deceased. He was retired from White Furniture Company. He was a member of St. Luke Christian Church where he served with the Deacon Board, the Usher Board the Missionary Department, the Senior Choir and served as the sexton.
Survivors other than his wife include six daughters, Mrs. Elaine Turner and Mrs. Martha Royster, both of Haw River, Mrs. LaVerne Boone, Miss Cathy Chavis, Mrs. Beverly Moore and Miss Alease Chavis, all of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Rollins Chavis of Mebane and Mr. Timothy Chavis of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Miller of Providence, R.I., and Mrs. Julia Fogle of Norwalk, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Christian Church in Mebane by the Rev. Rory Garrison, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Miss Alease Chavis
BURLINGTON - Miss Alease Chavis, 47, of 2664 Green Level Loop Road, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 1998, at her home after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Mabel Crisp Chavis, who survives, and the late Mr. Columbus Chavis. She was a former employee of the Alamance County School System. She was a 1969 graduate of Graham High School, where she was a member of the Glee Club. She was a member of St. Luke Christian Church where she was a trustee, member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Department.
Survivors other than her mother of the home include five sisters, Mrs. Elaine Turner and Mrs. Martha Royster, both of Haw River, Mrs. LaVerne Boone, Miss Cathy Chavis and Mrs. Beverly Moore, all of Burlington; and two brothers, Mr. Rollins Chavis of Mebane and Mr. Timothy Chavis of Graham.

Mrs. Fannie Hudson
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Hudson, 89, of 2804 Blanche Drive, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Alamance Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born March 31, 1909 in Tatum, S.C., she was the daughter of Mr. George Walter Smith and Mrs. Lucy Jane Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a son, Mr. John Marvin Hudson of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Ms. Dorothy H. King of the home; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Junie Johnson
PITTSBORO - Mr. Junie Johnson, 85, of 5227 Castle Rock Farm Road, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his home.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Effie J. Johnson, who survives. He was the retired owner-operator of Johnson Brothers Sawmill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Center United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Ms. Susan J. Jones of Pittsboro; two brothers, Mr. Casey Johnson of Siler City and Mr. Victor Johnson of Pittsboro; two sisters, Ms. Ruby Fulk of Greensboro and Ms. Vivian Scott of Siler City; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Center United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Carter. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GRAHAM - Mr. Charlie William Parrish, 71, of Health Care Center of Alamance, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Betty W. Parrish, and the son of Mr. Hoyt Parrish and Mrs. Maggie A. Parrish, both deceased. He was a factory worker and a member of St. Matthews AME Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Savannah Rogers of Mebane, Ms. Alice Parrish and Ms. Tammy Parrish, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. Roxanne Williams of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lambert and Mrs. Mozell Worth, both of Saxapahaw; two brothers, Mr. Lester Parrish of Saxapahaw and Mr. Jackie Parrish of Graham; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews AME Church by the Rev. Leroy Miller, pastor, and the Rev. George C. Cheek. Burial will be in Farrington-Morrow Memorial cemetery in Saxapahaw.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service, and at other times at 5321 Salem Church Road, Saxapahaw.

Mr. Jackie Parrish
GRAHAM - Mr. Jackie Parrish, 60, of 1040 Moore's Chapel cemetery Road, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after an illness of two weeks.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Hallie Parrish, who survives, and the son of Mr. Hoyt Parrish and Mrs. Maggie A. Parrish, both deceased. He was a graduate of Graham High School and was a tow motor operator at Burlington Industries. He was a member of St. Matthews AME Church where he served on the usher board and as a church steward.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Thomas Parrish of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Camilla Madden of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lambert and Mrs. Mozell Worth, both of Saxapahaw; a brother, Mr. Lester Parrish of Saxapahaw; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charlie William Terrell.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Matthews AME Church by the Rev. Leroy Miller, pastor, and the Rev. George C. Cheek. Burial will be in Farrington-Morrow Memorial cemetery in Saxapahaw.

Mr. Curtis O. Howard
HAW RIVER - Mr. Curtis O. Howard, 40, of 3508 Blackberry Lane, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his home after a short illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Gloria East Howard, who survives, and the son of Mr. Burley Smith Howard and Mrs. Lona Mae Goodson, who both survive. He was employed by Upholstery Prints and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors other than his wife of the home, mother of Burlington and father of Browns Summit include two daughters, Miss Christina Lee East of the home and Mrs. Christy Pierce of New Bern; a son, Mr. Clinton O. Howard of Graham; stepmother, Mrs. Lula Allred Howard of Browns Summit; two brothers, Mr. Eddie Smith Howard of Browns Summit and Mr. Danny Howard of Haw River; and a sister, Mrs. Brenda Hitt of Graham.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. James Rosser, pastor of Haw River Christian Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
Mr. R.P. Ellington Jr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. R.P. Ellington Jr., 82, of 208 Tremont Drive, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Catherine Stribling Ellington, who survives, and the son of the Rev. Rayburn Paschal Ellington Sr. and Mrs. Belva Cheek Ellington, both deceased. He was retired from Western Electric. He was educated in the Graham Public School System and at Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as Scout Master for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a Merchant Marine. He was a former member of the Alamance Wildlife Club, Elon Fish and Game Club, American Society of Violin Makers and International Society of Violin Makers. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington where he was a member of the church choir for many years, was a member of Linneman Sunday School Class and was a member of various committees.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Ellington Vance and Mrs. Sharon Ellington Elgin, both of Burlington; a son, Mr. Rayburn "Ray" Paschal Ellington III of Chicago; a brother, Mr. Floyd P. Ellington of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Hillis Ellington, Mr. Carroll Ellington and Mr. John Ellington; and a sister, Ms. Mary Lee Eakes.

Mr. Steven T. Harrison
WHITSETT - Mr. Steven Todd Harrison, 35, of 3817-A Angus Road, died Sunday, May 31, 1998.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Teresa Marie "Teri" Duncan Harrison, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Fetzer Harrison and Mrs. Meryle Mckinney Harrison, who both survive. He had lived in Whitsett for the past two years. He was an employee of Burlington Industries, an awarded country musician, and a member of Shiloh Country Music Band. He had performed at the Rand Ole Opry, the Fiddler's Cove in Liberty and at Maggie McGee's in Nasvhille, Tenn. He was a volunteer with the Head Start Program at Williamsburg Elementary School and a volunteer at Nathaniel Greene Elementary School. He was a Baptist and attended Community Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and parents of Reidsville include three sons, Mr. Everett Charles Harrison, Mr. Lucas Todd Harrison and Mr. Zachary Robert Harrison, all of the home; a stepson, Mr. Cody Lee Tillman of the home; two stepdaughers, Miss Alexis Marie Tillman and Miss Sheri Wheeler, both of the home; and four brothers, Mr. Kevin Mark Harrison, Mr. Brian Scott Harrison, Mr. Jonathan Reid Harrison and Mr. Benjamin Brooks Harrison, all of Reidsville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Community Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Margaret Hillman
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Margaret Mildred Cox Hillman, 94, of 601 Oak-View Loop Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the Brian Center Health Care.
Born Feb. 1, 1904, in Campbell County, Ky., she was the wife of Mr. Stanley Levi Hillman Sr., who died in 1952, and the daughter of Mr. Milton Cox and Mrs. Luella Mae Richards Cox, both deceased. She was a homemaker, past postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service, book store manager and Dean of Women at Atlanta Christian College, East Point, Ga. She was a member of Oakview Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Margie Hillman Fessler of Tennille, Ga., and Ms. Mattie Lue Dumas of Pembrook Pirer, Fla.; two sons, Mr. Stanley Levi Hillman Jr. of Ruffin and Mr. Robert L. Hillman of Purley; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Erlanger, Ky.
