Mr. Nathaniel Evans

BURLINGTON - Mr. Nathaniel Cleo Evans, 66, of 233 Hooker St., died Friday, June 12, 1998, at his home. Burrus and Burrus Inc. in Graham is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Mrs. Evelyn B. Smith

GRAHAM - Mrs. Evelyn Ray Boone Smith, 81, of 4428-M Cedar Cliff Road, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at her home after three months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Curtis Astor Smith Sr., and the daughter of Mr. T.N. Boone Sr. and Mrs. Addie Vera Ray Boone, both deceased. She was a retired educator. She attended Broad Street School, Burlington High School, Elon College and Greensboro College. She taught school in Orlando and Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Lee Smith of Delray Beach, Fla., Mrs. Neda Ray Thurmond of Denver and Mrs. Ellen Fenster of Melbourne, Fla.; one son, Mr. Curtis A. Smith Jr. of Greensboro; one brother, Mr. T.N. Boone Jr. of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Ms. Amy Mebane

MEBANE - Ms. Amy Mebane, 2051 Miles Chapel Road, died June 11, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Sharpe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.

Ms. Ourania Stroggilis

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Ms. Ourania Stroggilis, 96, of 255 Cart Drive, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, in White Oak Manor-Spartanburg. A native of Krendie, Evrythnia, Greece, she was the wife of the late Mr. Phillip Stroggilis, and the daughter of Mr. George Dallas and Mrs. Spirthoula Dallas, both deceased. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Survivors include five grandchildren, two from Burlington, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Helen S. Papadis who died June 1, 1998. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. George Nayfa and the Rev. Tom Pistolis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Trisagion Prayer Service will be at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1107, Spartanburg, S.C. 29307. The family will be at the home.

Mr. Thaddeus C. Doss

SUMMERFIELD - Mr. Thaddeus Christian Doss, 67, of 8434 Rumbley Road, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at his home. A native of Guilford County, he was the president and owner of J.D. Wilkins Co. Inc. He was past director of the Carolina's Associated General Contractors, and a member of the National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers where he served on various committees. He served on the board of Northwest Senior High School, was a member of the Greensboro Elks Club and a Korean War veteran. He was a charter member of the Fellowship Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Peggy Simpson Doss of the home; one son, Mr. Richard Christian Doss of Summerfield; a sister, Ms. Ann Steele Brown of Kimeville; five brothers, Mr. Neale C. Doss of Greensboro, Mr. Virgil L. Doss of Mebane, Mr. Jerry D. Doss of Haw River, Mr. H. Hugh Doss of Swepsonville and Mr. John F. Doss of Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. O'Lora Doss McDonald. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Greensboro by Dr. Gray Clark. Burial will be in Liberty Wesleyan Church cemetery in Summerfield. The family will be at Brooke Funeral Home in Stokesdale from 7 to 9 this evening. Memorials may be made to the Children's Home Society of N.C., 740 Chestnut St., Greensboro, N.C. 27405, or to Fellowship Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2005 New Garden Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27410.

Mr. Joseph Allred

ARCHDALE - Mr. Joseph Brantley Allred, 87, of 404 Kaye St., died Saturday evening at High Point Regional Hospital after several months of declining health. Born Sept. 6, 1910, in High Point, he was the husband of 64 years to Mrs. Eula Powers Allred, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Will Allred and Mrs. Cora Mae Garrison Allred, both deceased. He had been a resident of Archdale most of his life and was retired from Otto Zenke Inc. of Greensboro. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. John (Sue) Marshall of Churchland and Mrs. Paul (Kay) Zarynoff of Gainsville, Ga.; one brother, Mr. Paul Grayson Allred of High Point; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Garden Park cemetery bu Dr. Jeff S. Patterson. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at Cumby Mortuary in Archdale. Memorials may be made to Archdale United Methodist Church, 11006 N. Main St., Archdale, N.C. 27263.

Mr. Raymond Bell Sr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Raymond Edward Bell Sr., 89, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Alamance Health Care.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Reba Johnson Bell, and the son of Mr. Walter Edward Bell and Mrs. Mamie Harder Bell. He was a pioneer merchant in Burlington. He and his father founded Bell's Department Store in 1922.

A graduate of Burlington High School, class of 1926, he was former president of the Burlington Merchants Association. He served for many years on the Burlington Traffic Commission and served on the Business Advisory Board of the Technical College of Alamance, now Alamance Community College.

Survivors include four sons, Mr. Raymond E. "Ray" Bell Jr. of Graham, Mr. Jim Bell and Mr. Charles Bell, both of Burlington, and Mr. Donald Bell of Elon College; two sisters, Mrs. Allene Robertson of Burlington and Mrs. Edna Majors of Wilmington; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Vivian Gunter and a brother, Mr. Joe Bell.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dermont Reid, retired United Methodist minister. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, William Black Research Building, 650 W. 168th St., New York, N.Y. 10032.

Lt. Cmdr. Gladys Bunker

MEBANE - Lt. Cmdr. Gladys Emma Bunker (ret.), 77, of 6212 Oak Grove Church Road, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, June 15, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a seven-month illness.

A native of Orange County, she was the daughter of Mr. Oliver Wendell Bunker and Mrs. Mammie Simmons Bunker, both deceased. She was a retired nurse with the U.S. Navy. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1940, from Martin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Mount Airy in 1944, and the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1958. She served 21 years in the Navy, and was an instructor in the nursing program at the Technical College of Alamance.

She was active in Oak Grove Baptist Church as a teacher in the Ladies Sunday School Class, Senior Citizens activities, a ten-year volunteer with the Orange County SHIP Volunteer Program and the VITA program.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Dees of Clinton, Mrs. Jessie Bryant of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Jane Workman of Tallahassee, Fla.; four brothers, Mr. Hershell Bunker of Pilot Mountain, Mr. Max Bunker of Clemmons, Mr. Fred Bunker of Mebane, and Mr. Henry Bunker of Burlington.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Keith Moore, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

McClure Funeral Home in Mebane is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 5217 Oak Grove Church Road, Mebane, N.C. 27302.

Mr. Ron Robinette

GREENSBORO - Mr. Ron Robinette, 44, of 7626 Royster Road, died Friday, June 12, 1998 at his home.

A native of Greensboro, he was the husband of Mrs. Sandra Heaton Robinette who survives, and son of Mrs. Alta Shepard of Burlington, and the late Mr. Ronald Newell Robinette. He was a maintenance associate for Farr Associates Inc.

Survivors other than his wife of the the home, and his mother; one son, Mr. Ronald Kris Robinette of Rota, Spain; a brother, Mr. Kimball Robinette of South Carolina and four grandchildren.

Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel in Greensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rayford Johnson

SNOW CAMP - Mr. C. Rayford Johnson of 9724 Snow Camp Road, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at 12:15 a.m. after two years of failing health.

Born Nov. 11, 1938 in Valleyhead, Ala., he was the husband of Mrs. Jeanette Craine Johnson for 36 years.

Survivors other than his wife include three daughters, Ms. Bonnie Holder of Randleman, Ms. Tammy Duncan and Ms. Julie Johnson, both of Snow Camp; one sister, Ms. Clevedell Baugh of Section, Ala.; two brothers, Mr. Waylon Galloway of High Point and Mr. Lee Johnson of Rossville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 Wednesday evening at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses on Liberty Grove Road in Liberty.

Arrangements are by Cremation Services of Winston-Salem.
