Miss Edna L. Overman
WHITSETT - Miss Edna Louise Overman, 86, formerly of Burlington Road, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of Mr. Charles William Overman and Mrs. Mamie Lee Boone Overman, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth and was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lahoma Clapp and Mrs. Frances Busick, both of Whitsett; and a brother, Mr. Douglas Overman of Whitsett.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Miss Ethel Overman, Mrs. Lillian Cheek and Miss Marjorie Overman; and two brothers, Mr. Clifton Overman and Mr. Clyde Overman.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Dr. John Franklin Howard and the Rev. Donald Overman. Burial will be in Frieden's Lutheran Church cemetery.
The family will be at Bartlett Funeral Home in Gibsonville from 7 to 9 this evening.
Memorials may be made to Gibsonville United Methodist Church, 501 Church St., Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.

Mr. Haywood Pherribo Jr.
HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Haywood Lee Harrison Pherribo Jr., 42, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Born Sept. 26, 1955, in Durham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Pherribo who survives, and the son of Mr. Haywood Pherribo Sr. and Mrs. Rebecca Mills Pherribo who survive.
Survivors other than his wife and his parents include a son, Mr. Alex Pherribo of Morrisville and Ms. Tina Thompson of Hillsborough; paternal grandmother, Ms. Mary Pherribo; six sisters, Ms. Agnes Young of Yonkers, N.Y., Ms. Margie Nichols, Ms. Vickie Mattison, Ms. Harriett Watkins and Ms. Teri Blue, all of Hillsborough, and Ms. Seletha Pherribo of Carrboro; two brothers, Mr. Akalema Pherribo of Raleigh and Mr. Joel Pherribo of Rougemont; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Bright Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Holman. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery.
The body may be viewed at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until closing Tuesday.

Mrs. Louise L. Riggins
NAHUNTA, Ga. - Mrs. Louise Lynn Riggins, 76, of Route 2, died Wednesday night, Oct. 7, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah, Ga., after a short illness.
A native of Brantley County, Ga., she was the wife of the late Mr. Charlie C. Riggins, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Brown “Rob” Lynn and Mrs. Gertie Morgan Lynn, both deceased. She was a homemaker and was employed by Twin Oaks Restaurant in Brunswick, Ga., from 1960 to 1971.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Evelyn Fender of Nahunta, Ms. Barbara Roberts and Ms. Linda Holton, both of Midway, Ga., and Ms. Pam Raulerson of Brunswick; a son, Mr. Curtis Riggins of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Cleve (Sadie) Garner of Nahunta and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Barnhill of Titusville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. C.R. Lynn.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Chambless Funeral Home by the Rev. Geoffrey Critchley and Mr. Gerald Savery. Burial will be in Smyrna cemetery in Brantley County.
The family will be at Chambless Funeral Home this evening

Miss Geneva M. Vance
GRAHAM - Miss Geneva M. Vance, 61, of 7-D Cates Circle, died Friday morning, Oct. 9, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Mabel H. Winstead
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mabel Hales Winstead, 82, of 210 Apple St., died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Wake County, she was the wife of Mr. John E. Winstead, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Millard Hales and Mrs. Verona Richardson Hales, both deceased. She was retired from American Tobacco Co., in Reidsville, and was a member of Pilot Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Carlton Sheridan of Summerville, S.C., and Mrs. Verona Robaczewski of Zebulon; two sons, Mr. Eugene Winstead of Chesterfield, S.C., and Mr. John Winstead of Strawberry Plains, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Lucille Gay, Mrs. Annie D. Perry, Mrs. Sybil Wilder and Mrs. Lois Moody; and two brothers, Mr. Millard Hales and Mr. James Hales.
The funeral will be conduced at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Paul Morton, pastor of Gibsonville Christian Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Lou P. Allen
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Lou Poe Allen, 87, of 329 Chris St., died at 7:38 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical center.

Mrs. Charley M. Parker
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Charley Mae Parker, 78, of 635 Holly St., died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Chester E. Fuquay
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Chester Edward Fuquay, 76, of 1525 S. Main St., Apt. 217, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at his home after several months of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lala Edwards Fuquay, who died in 1985, and son of Mr. Chalmers Fuquay and Mrs. Nannie Fuquay, both deceased. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Alice Glasgow of Burlington and Ms. Bonnie Koch of Haw River; four sons, Mr. Draper Fuquay of Yanceyville, Mr. Cleo Fuquay of Providence, Mr. Glenn Fuquay of Elon College and Mr. Cecil Fuquay of Blanch; a brother, Mr. Joseph F. Fuquay of Graham; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Marnie Fuquay and Ms. Fannie Fuquay.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Welcome Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Reaves. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Draper Fuquay, 228 Seventh Ave., Yanceyville.

Ms. Hattie M. French
BURLINGTON - Ms. Hattie Juanita Moore French of 912 Avon ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Howard Wade. She was disabled.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret F. Payne
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Margaret Fields Payne, 77, of 1625-G Morningside Drive, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 18 months of failing health, one day critical.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of Mr. Paul W. Payne who died in 1958, and the daughter of Mr. Lesley Fields and Mrs. Cora Bell Prevo Fields, both deceased. She was a retired receptionist at Mewborn Eye Clinic.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Peggy P. Fernandez of Tempe, Ariz.; one son, Mr. Randall Payne of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stanley of Kinston and Mrs. Elaine Reep of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Ricky Lee Payne and two brothers, Mr. Bill Fields and Mr. Jessie Fields.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Peoples Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. C. Max Allman, pastor, and Dr. Tommy Richardson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times, at the home of the son, 2553 Woods Lane, Graham, N.C.

Mrs. Lillie C. Sparks
GRAHAM - Mrs. Lillie Mae Cates Sparks, 74, formerly of Mineral Springs Road, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance after four and a half years of failing health, 12 days critical.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lawrence David Sparks, and the daughter of Mr. Milton Cates and Mrs. Marvin King Cates, both deceased. She was retired from Collins Aikman and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Judy Sparks Hobgood of Mebane, Mrs. Lynda Sparks Smith of Randleman, and Mrs. Joyce Sparks Manuel of Graham; two sons, Mr. David Larry Sparks of Burlington and Mr. Alvin Ray Sparks of Gibsonville; a brother, Mr. Claudie Cates of Graham; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Steven Loy, pastor, and the Rev. Raymond Webb, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Joyce Manuel, 5425 Snow Camp Road, Snow Camp.

Mr. Willie H. Shoffer
GIBSONVILLE - Mr. Willie Howard Shoffner, 61, of 712 Slade St., Apt. C, died Monday, Oct., 5, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of several days.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Ms. Blanche Shoffner.
Survivors include a sister, Ms. Frances Shoffner of New York City; and a brother, Mr. Grier H. Shoffner of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church in Gibsonville by the Rev. Timothy Warren, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service and at other times at the home.
Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
