Mr. John W. Haith
BURLINGTON - Mr. John William Haith, 74, of Lot 65, Misty Springs Park, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at his home after an illness of several months.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Patrick Haith, and the son of Mr. John Washington Haith and Mrs. Lillie Mae Russell Haith, both deceased. He was employed by Burlington Industries, Graham Plant, and was a member of New Covenant United Holy Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Thelma H. Carver of the home, Ms. Betty Joan Haith of Greensboro and Mrs. Sheila H. Sanchez of Arlington, Va.; four sons, Mr. Dwight E. Haith Sr., Mr. George Haith and Mr. Craig Haith, all of Graham, and Sgt. Steven Haith of Fort Gordon, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Maybelle H. McClelland of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Ressie H. Isley of Gibsonville; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Covenant United Holy Church by Bishop Harry L. Cohen, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at New Covenant United Holy Church one hour before the service.
Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anne H. Beck
GRAHAM - Mrs. Anne Helen Beck, 76, of 613 Monroe Holt Road, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of New Jersey, she was the wife of the late Mr. Robert Earl Beck. She was employed by Hardees of Graham.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Gail Beck of Graham and Ms. Robin B. Nelson of Forsyth, Ga.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
McClure Funeral Service in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Clara Johnson
GRAHAM - Mrs. Clara Belle Johnson, 84, of 5123 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, died at 3:13 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md., after two years of failing health.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Walter Kenneth Johnson, and the daughter of Mr. Jesse Brandon Dodson and Mrs. Leila Cates Dodson, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Becky Braxton of Graham and Ms. Barbara Jacob of Belair, Md.; a son, Mr. Jerry Johnson of Graham; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeannie Neal, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, 4462 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Graham, N.C. 27253.

Mr. Walter M. Bonk
STONEY CREEK - Mr. Walter M. Bonk of 6439 Bell Cross Trail, died at 11:16 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Staten Island, N.Y., he was the husband of Mrs. Catherine M. Bonk, who survives, and the son of Mr. Carl Francis Bonk and Mrs. Lottie Cen Bonk, both deceased. He was a retired human resource supervisor with AT&T Technologies. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Burlington Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Michelle C. Murrell of Greensboro and Mrs. Charlotte B. Staley of Graham; a son, Mr. Walter Carl Bonk of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cestra of Flemington, N.J. and Mrs. Terry Mabe of Mahapac, N.Y.; a brother, Mr. Carl F. Bonk of Staten Island; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Monsignor Anthony Balee. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of American, National Headquarters 1224 (M) Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., 20005-5183.

Mrs. Sallie B. Aldridge
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Sallie Blalock Aldridge, 87, of 1610-C Morningside Drive, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of one week. She was formerly of 715 Egypt Road, Prospect Hill.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Albert Amos Aldridge, and the daughter of Mr. Weldon Blalock and Mrs. Mary Oakley Blalock, both deceased. She attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Shirley A. Whitfield of Burlington; a son, Mr. Winfred E. Aldridge of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret King and Mrs. Nan Blackard, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Allie Clayton of Mebane; three brothers, Mr. Franklin Blalock of Prospect Hill, Mr. Joe Blalock of Graham and Mr. William Blalock of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James Albert Aldrige; and two sisters, Mrs. Lizze Pritchard and Mrs. Frances King.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Wallis Smith and the Rev. Darrell Massey. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church, cemetery Fund, c/o D.O. Chandler, Jr., 900 Oakview Loop Road, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.

Mr. Jerry T. Grose
BURLINGTON - Mr. Jerry Thomas Grose, 52, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, in Burlington after a long illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1945, in Asheboro, he was the husband of Mrs. Bobbie M. Grose, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Gladys Grose, who survives, and the late Mr. Phillip Grose. He was the owner of Servpro of Burlington Inc., and was an IICRC Certified Master Cleaner. He was a member of the Homebuilders of Burlington/Alamance County and the Alamance Claims Association.
Survivors other than his wife and mother of Franklinville include a daughter, Ms. Lynn Grose of Burlington; a son, Mr. John D. Grose of the home; and a brother, Mr. Tony B. Grose of Columbia, S.C.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joe Davidson Park by the Rev. Kenneth McNeil.

Mr. Marvin E. Collins
MEBANE - Mr. Marvin Ernest Collins Jr., 53, of 808 E. Stagecoach Road, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at his home.
A native of Mount Airy, he was the husband of Mrs. Stephanie Riley Collins, who survives, and the son of Mr. Marvin Ernest Collins and Mrs. Mozelle Elizabeth Lee Collins, both deceased. He moved to Mebane in 1957 and graduated from Mebane High School in 1962. He received a bachelor's degree from N.C. State University in 1969. For 27 years, he worked as a city and regional planner, serving as planning technician for the city of Raleigh, assistant planning director for the city of Goldsboro, planning director for the town of Southern Pines, and during the last 15 years of his career, as planning director for Orange County. In 1989, he received his master's degree in city and regional planning for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Survivors other than his wife of Mebane include two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Elizabeth Lee) Gloster of Texarkana, Ark., and Ms. Caryn Michele Collins of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Mr. Marvin E. Collins III of Boone; a stepdaughter, Ms. Jennifer Kaye Snipes of Mebane; a sister, Mrs. Brooks (Carol) Gardner of Mebane; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mebane First Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Farmer. Burial will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Triangle Land Conservatory, 1100-A Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27604.

Mrs. Mary Thompson
PHILADELPHIA - Mrs. Mary Evans Thompson, 71, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Philadelphia.
Born March 6, 1927, in Orange County, she was the wife of Mr. Robert A. Thompson, who survives. She was the daughter of Mr. Wallace A. Evans and Mrs. Maude Terrell Evans, both deceased.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Ms. Mary Louise Canady of Philadelphia; four sons, Mr. Billy Thompson of Philadelphia, Mr. Bernard Thompson of Glennside, Pa., Mr. Jerry Thompson of Durham and Mr. Ervin Aquilla Thompson of Denver; four sisters, Ms. Lillie Coble, Ms. Gaynell Owens and Ms. Daisy Scott, all of Mebane, and Ms. Mildred Smith of Graham; four brothers, Mr. Walter Evans, Mr. Donald Evans and Mr. Joseph Evans, all of Mebane, and Mr. Larry Evans of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at White Cross AME Church by the Rev. Milton Battle, pastor, and the Rev. Walter D. Horton, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
Chavis-Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Josephine Byrd
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Josephine Byrd, 76, died Friday, July 10, 1998, in Triangle Hospice Facility in Hillsborough.
Born July 5, 1922, in Wake Forest, she was the wife of Mr. Floyd Byrd, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Crump, both deceased.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. William Richardson.

Mrs. Mollie S. Brown
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mollie S. Dickerson Brown, 65, of 1007 Ivey Road, Apt. A, died at 1:32 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the Hospice Home in Burlington after a long illness.
A native of Hamilton County, Tenn., she was the wife of the late Mr. Gilbert Dickerson, and the daughter of Mr. Ora Lee Stewart Sr., and Mrs. Bonnie Jackson Stewart, both deceased. She was a retired homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Dickerson Teal of Graham; a son, Mr. Gary D. Dickerson of Mebane; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller of Alabama and Mrs. Pauline Hawes of Chicago; three brothers, Mr. Billy Joe Stewart of Eden, Mr. Ora Lee Stewart Jr. of Georgia and Mr. Henry Kenneth Stewart of Summerfield; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John Stewart.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Ben Bishop and the Rev. Chip Cagle, Hospice chaplains with Hospice of Alamance-Caswell. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mr. Howard Mayo Sr.
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Mr. Howard A. Mayo Sr., 84, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at his home.
A native of Wilson, he moved to Ormond Beach from Hendersonville after retiring from Kimberly-Clark Corp. in 1987. He was a lab technician at Halifax Hospital and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Howard Mayo Jr. of Ormond Beach, and Mr. Frank Mayo of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Henry Mayo of Danville, Va.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted in Hendersonville. Haigh-Black in Ormond Beach is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Youth Ministry, 44 S. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach, Fla., 32176.

Mrs. Mary W. Woods
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mary Ruth Willis Woods, 76, of 4706-C N.C. 87 South, died at 9:36 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of several months.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Robert F. Woods, and the daughter of Mr. Ed Willis and Mrs. Olivia Crumpton Willis, both deceased. She attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Jimmy Lee Woods of the home; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lester M. Hester of Graham; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at North Lawn Cemetery.
