Mr. Edward H. Clark
ASHEVILLE - Mr. Edward Howard Clark, 67, of Asheville, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at his home after several years of failing health.
A native of Avery County, he was the son of Mr. Walter Clark and Mrs. Madge Duckworth Clark, both deceased.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Themla Wilson, Mrs. Norma White and Mrs. Roma Page, all of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. David Clark of Charlotte and Mr. Alvis Clark of Asheville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Shirley Clark; and four brothers, Mr. Jack Clark, Mr. Paul Clark, Mr. Ray Clark and Mr. Bruce Clark.
A private memorial service was conducted Saturday in Asheville.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mrs. Elsie B. Alexander
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elsie Brantley Alexander, 96, formerly of Longview Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields after several years of failing health.
A native of Iredell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James Coyt Alexander, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Ephraim Brantley and Mrs. Ella Wilson Brantley, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn A. Fansler of Murrell’s Inlet, S.C., and Mrs. Ella Wilson “E.W.” Ferrell of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Robert Wilson Brantley of Mooresville; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. C. Powell Sykes, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Ken Fansler, pastor of Belin Methodist Church of Murrell’s Inlet. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Bethel Church cemetery in Cornelius.
The family will be at the funeral home from 10 to 10:45 Monday morning, and at other times at the home of Mrs. “E.W.” Ferrell, 3406 Longview St., Burlington.
Memorials may be made to the Handbell Fund, c / o Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1126 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27217; or to Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, 2502 N.C. 119 South, Mebane, N.C. 27302.

Mr. James H. Casey
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Hubert Casey, 70, of 1253 Willow Oak Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three months of failing health.
A native of Forsyth County, he was the husband of Mrs. Carol Sentelle Casey, who survives, and the son of Mr. Albert B. Casey Sr. and Mrs. Maxie Hoots Casey, both deceased. He was a supervisor with BellSouth and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a Mason and he was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church and was former Sunday school teacher at Waughtown Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. James Michael Casey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mr. David Kyle Casey of Wilmington and Mr. Mark Alexander-Casey of Winston-Salem; a stepdaughter, Ms. Nancy T. Crowder of Burlington; a stepson, Mr. Mark A. Thornburg of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Casey Frye of Winston-Salem; two brothers, A.B. Casey Jr. of Lexington, Ky., and Mr. C.W. Casey of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Staley Memorial Baptist Church, 1446 N. Graham-Hopedale Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Mrs. Pauline C. Parker
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Pauline C. Parker, 90, formerly of West King Street, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Durham Regional Hospital.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Fred Edward Parker, and the daughter of Mr. Julian Monroe Conklin and Mrs. Maggie Howell Conklin, both deceased. She had lived in Hillsborough since 1914. She was retired from Cone Mills, where she had worked for 42 years. She had been a member of West Hillsborough Baptist Church since 1936.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. David Parker and Mr. William Parker, both of Hillsborough; a sister, Ms. Lois Taylor of Hillsborough; three brothers, Mr. Harvey Conklin of Greensboro and Mr. Jack Conklin and Mr. Woodrow Conklin, both of Hillsborough; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Clement Funeral Chapel in Hillsborough by the Rev. Todd Martin. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.
The family will be at Clements Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. William Parker, 1008 W. King St., Hillsborough.
Memorials may be made to Oxford Orphanage, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565; or to the Orange County Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Alice J. Brown
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Alice Jordan Brown, 75, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998.
A native of Chicago, she was the daughter of Mrs. Alice Palkoner Jordan, who survives, and the late Mr. Herman Jordan. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar Guild. She retired from Sears after 20 years of service.
Survivors other than her mother of Chicago include a daughter, Ms. Nancy C. Brown of Burlington; four sons, Mr. George M. Brown III of Orlando, Fla., Mr. Mark J. Brown, Mr. David L. Brown and Mr. Eric T. Brown, all of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Mr. Don Jordan of Streamwood, Ill.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Bill Maley. A graveside service will be conducted at Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will be at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, with a vigil from 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Edwin W. Harrison
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. Edwin Woodrow Harrison, 77, of Jefferson Family Care Home died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998.
A native of Davidson County, he was the son of Mr. Alexander Kearney and Mrs. Claudie Foust Harrison, both deceased. He had lived most of his life in Caswell County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a carpenter.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Jerry A. Duane of Hickory; a sister, Ms. Mae H. Morton of Elon College; two brothers, Mr. Everette L. Harrison of Altamahaw and Mr. William R. Harrison of Burlington; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Citty Funeral Home Chapel in Reidsville by the Rev. Felton Massey. Burial will be in Camp Springs United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Citty Funeral Home one hour before the service.

Mr. Elijah Rogers
BURLINGTON - Mr. Elijah Rogers of 1646 Cadiz St., died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Hillheaven after a long illness.
A native of Person County, he was the son of the late Ms. Nora Rogers. He was a truck driver for Coble Warehouse.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Geneva R. Gregg of Hackensack, N.J.; and a brother, Mr. John Thomas Rogers of Burlington.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at North Lawn cemetery by the Rev. Steve R. Oldham, pastor of Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ.
The family will be at the home.
Sharpe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dewey L. Crabtree
GRAHAM - Mr. Dewey Leonard Crabtree, 70, of 3368 Southern High-Mt. Hermon Road, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at his home after two years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Stella Ratliff Crabtree, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Alfred Crabtree and Mrs. Netta Flossie Coble Crabtree, both deceased. He was retired from Lucent Technologies and was a U.S. Navy veteran and an Eagle Scout.. He was a member of Mountainview Ruritan Club, the Alamance Seniors Golfers 50-Plus, the Holly Hill Flying Association, and the Pioneers Club of America. He was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years, was chairman of the Finance Committee, and was a member of the choir and the Methodist Men.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Elizabeth Crabtree Thoni of Clemmons; a sister, Mrs. Mildred C. Coble of Snow Camp; two brothers, Mr. Joe M. Crabtree Sr. of Graham and Mr. Ernest Crabtree of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rick Moser, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Naomi J. White
NANUET, N.Y. - Mrs. Naomi Jeffries White, 70, of 12 Smith Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, N.Y., after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Delacy White, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Albert Jeffries and Mrs. Josie White Jeffries, both deceased. She was retired from Rockland Psychiatric Hospital in Orangeburg, N.Y.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Lisa Dee Bourdeau of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Pauline Bowden of Siler City and Mrs. Lottie J. Martin of Snow Camp; a brother, Mr. Raeford M. Jeffries of Snow Camp; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Harold D. Garner, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Rock Creek AME Church Cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Lottie Martin, 3570 Zion Road, Snow Camp.

Mr. Pearl Johnson
SILER CITY - Mr. Pearl Johnson, 65, of 996 Gees Grove Road, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
He was the husband of Mrs. Edna Jaquelyn Johnson, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Ethel Johnson, who survives. He was employed with Boling Chain for more than 42 years and was a member of Evans Chapel AME Zion Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Siler City include three daughters, Ms. Teresa Johnson and Ms. Gloria Wallace, both of Siler City, and Ms. Carla Johnson of the home; six sons, Mr. Keith Burnett of Ramseur, Mr. Clarence Johnson, Mr. Steve Johnson, Mr. Rodney Johnson and Mr. Chris Johnson, all of Siler City, and Mr. Phil Johnson of the home; six sisters, Ms. Dorothy Crutchfield, Ms. Barbara Jean Green and Ms. Yvonne Johnson, all of Siler City, Ms. Carolyn Stroud of Sanford, Ms. Josephine Pugh of Pittsboro, and Ms. Deloise Alston of High Point; five brothers, Mr. Grady Johnson and Mr. Dan Johnson, both of Snow Camp, Mr. Henry Bell, Mr. Leon Johnson and Mr. Cedell Johnson, all of Siler City; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Knotts and Son Funeral Home in Siler City is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Julius Degraffenreidt
PITTSBORO - Mr. Julius “Doc” Degraffenreidt, 76, of 2375 Silk Hope Gum Spring Road, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at John Umstead Hospital in Butner.
He was educated in the Chat-ham County School System and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945 and receiving honors. He was a member of Evans Chapel AME Zion Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Ms. Florene Nettles and Ms. Ada Pratt, both of Pittsboro, and Ms. Constance Degraffenreidt of Inglewood, Calif.; and a brother, Mr. Roscoe Degraffen-dreidt of Philadelphia.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Ridie Headen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsboro from 6 to 7 Sunday evening.
