Mr. J.C. Herbin
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. J.C. Herbin of 109 Long St., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at White Oak Manor in Burlington after a long illness.
Sharpe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Willie T. Moore
CEDAR GROVE - Mr. Willie T. Moore, 71, of 3220 Carr Store Road, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1927, in Person County, he was the husband for 44 years of the late Mrs. Ruth Walker Moore, and the son of Mr. William “Bill” Moore and Mrs. Mandy Cates Moore, both deceased. He retired from Dixie Yarn after 39 years of service and was a member of Mount Zion Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Annette Skaggs of Cedar Grove; two sons, Mr. Tommy Moore of Mebane and Mr. David Moore of Cedar Grove; five sisters, Ms. Pearl Williams of Mebane, Ms. Annie Glasgow of Cedar Grove, Ms. Macie Bare and Ms. Blanche Moore, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Maggie Edmonds of Haw River; three brothers, Mr. Haywood Moore, Mr. Lonnie Moore and Mr. Elbert Moore, all of Mebane; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Zion Christian Church cemetery.
The family will be at Walker’s Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Evelyn S. Jones
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Evelyn Starnes Jones, 81, of 709 Everette St., died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at the Hospice Home after two years of failing health, two weeks critical. She was formerly of Haw River.
A native of Catawba County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Henry Herbert Jones and the daughter of Mr. Henry Hoyle Starnes and Mrs. Janie Bradley Starnes, both deceased. She was retired from Cone Mills and was a member of First Baptist Church of Haw River.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Jones Craddock of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Roger W. Jones and Mr. Robert H. Jones, both of Haw River; a sister, Mrs. Gwen Snotherly of Haw River; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jerry H. Jones.
There will be no service or visitation.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.
McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Virginia Andrews
GRAHAM - Mrs. Virginia Neese Andrews, 70, of Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, died at 5:23 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at the center after five years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Marion Lynn Andrews, and the daughter of Mr. Clarence Walter Neese and Mrs. Lenora Teer Neese, both deceased. She was retired from the Alamance County Mental Health Department and was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carole Hockaday of Graham; a son, Mr. Mark Andrews of Cary; a brother, Mr. Howard Neese of Mebane; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Bud Wrenn. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening.

Mrs. Sharon B. Snipes
GREENSBORO - Mrs. Sharon Beasley Snipes, 40, of 919 Sykes Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Greensboro, she was the wife of Mr. James Snipes, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Wilbert Beasley and Mrs. Thelma Beasley, who both survive. She was a homemaker and a member of Presbyterian Church of the Cross. She was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors other than her husband of Kernersville and parents of the home include two sons, Mr. Dustin Beasley and Mr. Dylan Snipes, both of the home; and two brothers, Mr. Danny Beasley of Graham and Mr. Randy Beasley of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will be at Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mr. Bobbie McPherson
BURLINGTON – Mr. Bobbie Lee Pherson, 80, of 1736 White Kennel Road, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Snow Camp, he was the husband of Mrs. Lake R. McPherson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert L. McPherson and Mrs. Etta Cheek McPherson, both deceased. He was a retired owner of Bobbie’s Texaco and Maple Ave. Cleaners. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class with 37 years of perfect attendance.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Darrell McPherson and Mr. Danny McPherson, both of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Doris Johnson of High Point and Mrs. Naomi Capps and Mrs. Kathryn Glenn, both of Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. David Lee McPherson; a sister, Ms. Mae McPherson; and five brothers, Mr. Coy McPherson, Mr. Homer McPherson, Mr. Ben McPherson, Mr. Raymond McPherson and Mr. Willard McPherson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bellemont United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Roberts, pastor; the Rev. Al Trotter, former pastor; the Rev. R.E.L. Moser, Methodist minister; and the Rev. Bill Wolfe, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Bellemont United Methodist Church, 4039 Markwood Drive, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mrs. Maggie C. Basden
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Maggie Mae “Tish” Cowan Basden, 77, of 2164 S. Gurney St., died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of three weeks.
A native of Mount Olive, she was the wife of the late Mr. Hiram Cabot Basden, and the daughter of Mr. Charlie A.G.T. Cowan and Mrs. Maggie Suggs Cowan, both deceased. She was retired from Olympic Narrows Fabric and was a homemaker. She attended Beacon Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Miss Marcine Basden of Burlington, Ms. Donna Jean Myers of Smithfield, Ms. Susan B. Schlegel of Burlington and Mrs. Wendy B. Taylor of Durham; two sons, Mr. Michael D. Basden of Florida and Mr. William C. “Billy” Basden of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Charlie A. Cowan and Mr. John D. Cowan; and a sister, Ms. Mabel C. Ellis.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Greg Barkman, pastor of Beacon Baptist Church, and the Rev. Floyd Repass, pastor of Community Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. John H. Williams
BURLINGTON - Mr. John Howard Williams, 78, of Walker Avenue, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at his home.
A native of Graham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Jeanne F. Williams who survives, and the son of Mr. George W. Williams and Mrs. Daisy Hyde Williams, both deceased. He grew up in Gastonia, and was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was production manager for Burlington House Fabrics for 30 years. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and served in North Africa and Italy in the landing and battle at Anzio.
He was active in First Christian United Church of Christ, serving on various boards and committees, and was a lifetime deacon. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was packmaster of Pack One at the church for 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. John B. Williams of Lexington, S.C. and Mr. Ross F. Williams of Garner; a daughter, Ms. Deborah Williams-Wilson of Burlington; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at First Christian United Church of Christ by Dr. Robert K. Barrows, pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour before the service and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Mission Endowment Fund of First Christian United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1678, Burlington, N.C. 27216.

Mrs. Carolyn K. Walker
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Carolyn Ann Kearns Walker, 65, of 447 Oakland Drive, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Randolph County, she was the wife of Mr. H. Cooper Walker who survives and the daughter of Mrs. Mae Caveness Kearns who survives and the late Mr. David H. Kearns. She was a former school teacher at Varina School in Richmond, Va., and the old Graham High School. She was a social worker for Alamance County for many years and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of Women’s Circle No. 7.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and her mother of Ramseur include two daughters, Mrs. Kent (Candace) Cooper Walker Harrison of Greensboro and Mrs. Mark E. (Leigh Ann) Walker Mertens of Asheville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church Chapel by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor of The First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Cross Road Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis St., Burlington, N.C. 27215; or to Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, c/o the cemetery Fund, 3302 N.C. 119 North, Mebane, N.C. 27302.

Mrs. Elizabeth Mabry
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elizabeth Stafford Mabry, 80, of 1932 Gerringer Mill Road, died at 4:31 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Sam Hall Mabry, and the daughter of Mr. Rober Byron Stafford and Mrs. Mary Leola Seawell Stafford, both deceased. She was a retired employee of AT&T, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elon College.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. James Byron Mabry, with whom she made her home, Mr. Phillip Stafford Mabry of Yanceyville and Mr. Dennis Wayne Mabry of Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Westmoreland of Greensboro, Mrs. Evelen Hunter of Guilford Colledge and Mrs. Millicent Kincaid of Crumpler; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Rex Stafford and Mr. Bolta Stafford.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Norman Harris, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Elon College. Burial willl be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington this evening from 7 to 9, and at other times, at the home.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Elon Building Fund, P.O. Box 163, Elon College, N.C. 27244.

Mrs. Mildred C. Patton
MEBANE - Mrs. Mildred Craddock Patton, 82, a resident of the Methodist Retirement Home in Durham, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at the Home. She was a former resident of Bason Road in Mebane.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lonnie Lee Patton Jr. and the daughter of Mr. Samuel C. Craddock and Mrs. Etta McAdams Craddock, both deceased. She was retired from Alamance County Register of Deeds, and was a member of Eastern Star, and Cross Roads Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Vicky Patton and Ms. Beverly Oakley, both of Durham; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church by the Rev. T. Allen Huff, pastor, and the Rev. James M. Rissmiller, pastor of Community in Christ Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Burial will be in the Cross Roads Church cemetery.
The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 3302 N.C. 119 North, Mebane, N.C. 27302.
