Mrs. Stella T. Wilson
GREENSBORO – Mrs. Stella Temples Wilson, 84, of Oakhurst Nursing Home, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the home after a long illness. She was a formerresident of 3508 Wilsonwood Road.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Merritt Y. Wilson Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Bessemer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Ann Tucker of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Mr. Larry Wilson, Mr. Wayne Wilson and Mr. Richard Wilson, all of Greensboro; a stepson, Mr. Merritt Y. Wilson Jr. of Pittsboro; a stepdaughter, Ms. Dorothy Berry of Dayton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bessemer United Methodist Church by Dr. Boyd Holliday and Dr. C.M. Worthy. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Hurdle Mills.
The family will be at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening and at other times at the home of a son, Mr. Larry Wilson, 3510 Wilsonwood Road, Greensboro.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 405 Pomona Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407, or to a charity of choice.

Mr. Claude W. Tate
BURLINGTON - Mr. Claude Webster Tate, 79, of 11332 N.C. 62 South, died Saturday evening, Nov. 7, 1998, at his home after several years of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lottie Simmons Tate, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert Lee Tate and Mrs. Rosa Terrell Tate, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army vetean of World War II, where he served as a Master Sergeant with the Air Corps. He was a farmer and a member of Concord United Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a foster daughter, Mrs. Gale Rice Reavis of Advance; a foster son, Mr. Keith Berry Rice of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie T. Durham and Mrs. Alice T. Baker, both of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. James W. Tate of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Florence T. Reagan, Mrs. Esther T. Madren and Mrs. Bessie T. Pascal; and two brothers, Mr. Fletcher Tate and Mr. Emmett Tate.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Concord United Church of Christ in Caswell County by Elder Wallis Smith of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church and Dr. Dace Lewis of Front Street Christian Church.
The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Sheldon Husler Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Sheldon E. Husler Sr., 77, of 2119 McKinney St., died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Carlise, Pa., he was the husband of Mrs. Betty J. Husler, who survives, and the son of Mr. Orden Husler and Mrs. Edna Dyarman Husler, both deceased. He was a retired mason.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Vickie Hocker of Burlington; a son, Mr. Sheldon E. Husler Jr. of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Margaurite Mountz, Mrs. Veda Weaver, Mrs. Arlene Swartz and Mrs. Seamona Brownswell, all of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Mr. Thaird Husler and Mr. Milford Husler, both of Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren.
Private services will be conducted at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2364, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Ms. Ruth C. Funk
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruth Carver Funk, 85, of Twin Lakes Center, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the center after a long illness.
A native of Boaz, Ala., she was the wife of Mr. Harry L. Funk Jr., who survives. She moved to Birmingham, Ala., at an early age, then to Wilmington, Del., then to Figure Eight Island near Wilmington. She moved to Burlington in 1995. She attended the University of Alabama, where she studied biology and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was a homemaker and civic volunteer. She was a member of the Junior Board of Memorial Hospital in Delaware, where she co-chaired the hospital’s coffee shop for several years. She was a docent at Winterthur Museum, the home of Henry Francis du Pont. She was a member of the first Wilmington PEO chapter, a national women’s philanthropic organization. She was a member of the Cape Fear Garden Club in Wilmington, where she was responsible for decorating a Christmas tree for the annual hospice fundraiser, Festival of Trees.
Survivors other than her husband include two daughters, Mrs. Galen (Margaret F.) Moser of Burlington and Mrs. Peter (Harriet F.) Vanstory of Greensboro; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Twin Lakes Chapel by the Rev. Dr. G. Robert McKenzie and the Rev. Dr. Jerold D. Shelter. Burial will be private.
The family will be at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Galen Moser, 1916 Shirley Dr., Burlington.
In lieu of lfowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215-3298, or to a charity of choice.

Mr. Sheldon Husler Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Sheldon E. Husler Sr., 77, of 2119 McKinney St., died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mr. June C. Braxton
GRAHAM - Mr. June Clayton Braxton, 76, of 3303-B Newlin Road, Snow Camp, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mabel Layton Braxton who survives, and the son of Mr. Charles Ernest Braxton and Mrs. Callie Newlin Braxton, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and was employed at University Power Plant. He was a member of the Chatham Friends Meeting.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Oscar (Jane) Majors of Snow Camp; one son, Mr. Danny Braxton of Clackman, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Linda Smith; one sister, Mrs. Lorene Hadley; and three brothers, Mr. Albert Braxton, Mr. Frank Braxton and Mr. J.V. Braxton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Chatham Friends Meeting by the Rev. Jerry Tow and the Rev. Thomas Butt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9 and at other times, at the home of the daughter at 3259 Newlin Road, Snow Camp.

Mrs. Hermie S. Bell
ALTAMAHAW - Mrs. Hermie Hazel Sutton Bell, 89, a former resident of Altamahaw, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Abe Allen Bell, and the daughter of Mr. Jim Sutton and Mrs. Fletcher Morine Sutton, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wilda Thompson of Scottsburg, Va. And Mrs. Angie Hopson of Snow Camp; three sons, Mr. Allen Bell of Clemmons, Mr. David Bell of Reidsville and Mr. Jerry “Jimmy” Bell of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Alene Storto of Burlington and Mrs. Eunice James of Altamahaw; one brother, Mr. Charlie Sutton of Burlington; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and seven great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Dular Toney and Mrs. Mamie Taylor; a brother, Mr. James Sutton; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Mike Johnson, chaplain of the hospital, and the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Berea United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times, at the home of Jerry “Jimmy” Bell, 3600 Danieley Water Wheel Road, Burlington.
Memorials may be made to Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church, Altamahaw Church Street, Elon College, N.C. 27244.

Mr. Nicholas Wilson Jr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Nicholas Oliver “Mickey” Wilson Jr., 40, of 262 Christopher Drive, died at 11:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at his home after a brief illness.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a former employee of Associated Plumbing, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Judy Harbour Toombs of the home; stepfather, Mr. Gerald A. Toombs of the home; four sons, Mr. Nicholas O. Wilson III and Mr. Christopher Shawn Wilson, both of Burlington, Mr. Tommy Lynn Wilson and Mr. Brandon Todd Wilson, both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Yvonne DeGail Garner and Mrs. Angela Kay Ledford, both of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Ricky Daryl Wilson and Mr. Gerald Averette Toombs Jr., both of Burlington; and step grandmother, Mrs. Alice Virginia Stallings of Siler City.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Darrel Kroeze, pastor of Christ Way Church, assisted by the Rev. L.C. Troxler. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Mildred Davis
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mildred Graham Davis, 91, of 914 Elm St., died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Lacy G. “Red” Davis who died in 1971, and the daughter of Mr. George Robert Graham and Mrs. Frances Tapscott Graham, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and former member of the Women’s Methodist Mission.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. William (Rita) Hall of Elkin, Mrs. Lonnie (Joan) Williams of Haw River, Ms. Madge G. Davis of the home, Ms. Joyce Mrizek of Chicago and Mrs. Robert (Irma) Gilley of Burlington; five sons, Mr. Harold L. Davis, Mr. Ronald T. Davis, Mr. Wayne G. Davis, Mr. Jefferson D. Davis and Mr. Steve H. Davis, all of Burlington; one sister, Ms. Doris Pender of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Louis H. Graham and Mr. Victor H. Graham, both of Burlington; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Millard Steven Davis; four sisters, Ms. Kara Graham, Mrs. Claudia Fox, Mrs. Josephine Umstead and Mrs. Thelma Hurdle; and one brother, Mr. Paul Graham.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lester Haney. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church, 3519 Maple Ave., Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mr. Earle Sutphen Sr.
GRAHAM - Mr. Earle Buckley Sutphen Sr., 80, of 703 Hermitage Road, Burlington, died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Manchester, Conn., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Nellie Donnell Lucas Sutphen, and the son of Mr. George Robinson Sutphen and Mrs. Cora Buckley Sutphen, both deceased. He was retired from AT&T and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Beverly S. Beaver of Graham; three sons, Mr. Earle B. Sutphen Jr. of Burlington, Mr. George Robinson Sutphen of Raleigh and Mr. Robert Lucas Sutphen of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held.
The family will be at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Beverly Beaver, 1904 Elmwood Drive, Graham.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.
McClure Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Destiny M. Craven
SNOW CAMP - Destiny Michelle Craven, infant daughter of Mr. William Travis Craven and Ms. Brandy Michelle Bailey, of 449 Lambe Road, died at 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a sudden illness.
She was a native of Orange County.
Survivors other than her mother and father of the home include maternal grandmother, Mrs. Shari Phillips of Snow Camp; maternal grandfather, Mr. Ronnie Bailey of Liberty; maternal stepfather, Mr. Roger Phillips of Snow Camp; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Carol Simmons; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Janice Craven of Mebane; and paternal grandfather, Mr. Wayne Craven of Mebane; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Kathleen Bailey; paternal grandparents, Mr. Elmer Crawford of Mebane and Mrs. Edna Craven of Mebane.
A gravedside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 1 to 1:30 this afternoon, and at other times at the home.
