Mrs. Jean W. Hundley

DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Jean Willis Hundley, 64, of 1957 Blair Loop Road died Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 1997, at her home after several months of failing health.

Born Sept. 5, 1933, in Floyd County, Va., she was the wife of the Rev. Gilmore Hundley, who survives, and Mr. James Edward McDaniel Sr., who died July 2, 1965. She was the daughter of Mrs. Fannie Young Willis Stout, who survives, and the late Mr. Thomas Lee Willis. She had spent most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She worked for the Danville Public School System and was previously co-owner of Hundley's Body Shop. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where she was a member of the ladies circle.

Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Danville, include a daughter, Ms. Wanda Gail Hodges of Danville; a son, Mr. James Edward McDaniel of Danville; four sisters, Ms. Betty W. Bray of Cascade, Va., Ms. Nelda W. Harris of Gatewood, Ms. Shirley W. Robinson of Baltimore and Ms. Glenda W. Myers of New York; two brothers, the Rev. Tommy Willis of Graham and Mr. Elmer Willis of Cascade; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Jean Levonne Warner.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Shermont Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Soyars and the Rev. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in the Hundley family cemetery.

The family will be at the home.

Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Winona B. Boyd

PLYMOUTH - Mrs. Winona B. Boyd, 88, of 1206 E. Main St., died Friday morning, Oct. 3, 1997, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Goldsboro after a long illness.

Born Nov. 2, 1908, in Plymouth, she was the wife of Mr. Carl White, who died in 1950, and Mr. Melvin H. Boyd, who died in 1963. She was the daughter of Mr. George William Bowen and Mrs. Matilda Bateman Bowen, both deceased. She operated Winona's Beauty Shop at her home and was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Iris W. Hoke of Burlington; three brothers, Mr. Robert Ellwood Bowen of Southern Pines, Mr. William Ervin Bowen of Williamsburg, Va., and Mr. Earl Grayson Bowen of Martinsville, Va.; a sister, Ms. Della Elizabeth Gregory of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Richard Flowers.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Christian Church, P.O. Box 97, Plymouth, N.C. 27962.

Horner-Walker Funeral Home of Plymouth is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Floyd J. Graves

BURLINGTON - Mr. Floyd J. Graves, 73, of 810 Williams St. died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Alamance Health Care after a long illness.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Hannah Talley Graves, who survives, and the son of Mr. Floyd Graves Sr. and Mrs. Pearl Paul Graves, both deceased. He was a self-employed brick mason.

Survivors other than his wife include two sons, Mr. Ronnie L. Boswell of Rochester, N.Y., and Mr. Floyd Graves of Chapel Hill.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James Alvis Graves.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Harrold Carr, pastor of Mount Zion Congregational Church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel 30 minutes before the service, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Mary G. Woods, 723 N. Fisher St., Burlington.

Sydney M. Lyon

Julia B. Lyon

GRAHAM - Sydney Margaret Lyon and Julia Brooke Lyon, infant twin daughters of Mr. Bobby Wood Lyon II and Ms. Melody Dickerson Lyon of 518 Delaware Ave., died at 12:32 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

They were natives of Alamance County.

Survivors other than their parents of the home include maternal grandparents, Mr. Bob Dickerson and Mrs. Mary Dickerson of Burlington; paternal grandparents, Mr. Bobby Lyon and Mrs. Cecilia Lyon of Burlington; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. Jimmy Thomas and Mrs. Pearl Eller of Mebane; and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Adele Toney of Burlington.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. James L. Rosser.

The family will be at Haw River Christian Church from 6 to 8 Sunday evening, and at other times at the home.

McClure Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements.

Joclyne A. Burnette

BURLINGTON - Joclyne Angel Burnette, infant daughter of Mrs. Melissa Sue Robertson of 2403 Berkeley Road, and Mr. Harvey Lee Burnette Jr. of Burlington, died at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

She was a native of Orange County.

Survivors other than her mother of the home and father of Burlington include maternal grandparents, Mrs. Debra Johnson of Macon, Ga. and Mr. James Marshall Robertson Sr. of Burlington; paternal grandparents, Mr. Harvey Lee Burnette Sr. and Mrs. Mexie Christine Marsh of Siler City; and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Valerie Robertson of Reidsville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. David Jackson.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 1:30 to 2:30 Sunday afternoon, and at other times the home.

Mr. D.V. Pike Jr.

SILER CITY - Mr. D.V. Pike Jr., 78, of 7788 Silk Hope-Liberty Road died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Country Forest Manor.

A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dorothy White Pike. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a charter member of Silk Hope Ruritan Club. He attended Guilford College and was retired from Beaman Corp. in Liberty. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, where he was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Phillip Michael Pike of Siler City and Mr. Donald Lee Pike of Carthage; two daughters, Ms. Phyllis P. Haga and Ms. Bonnie P. Albright, both of Siler City; two brothers, Mr. Phryne P. Pike of Siler City and Mr. Carter Ingle Pike of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Rocky River Friends Meeting by the Rev. David K. Hobson and the Rev. Gerald Pike. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Phyllis P. Haga, 7895 Silk Hope-Liberty Road, Siler City.

Rev. Needham Catlett

GREENSBORO - The Rev. Needham Arthur Catlett, 99, of Moses H. Cone Extended Care Center, 1131 N. Church St., formerly of Garner, died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at his home.

A native of Wake County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Rachel Durham Catlett and the late Mrs. Mildred Rose Pilkington Catlett. He was the son of George Sidney Catlett and Mrs. Lillie Ann Pleasants Catlett, both deceased. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Garner and was ordained as a minister in 1927.

He served as pastor of churches in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. He also served as pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church and Cedar Fork Baptist Church, both in Durham; New Bethel Baptist Church in Garner; and Rivermont Baptist Church, Granger Baptist Church, La Grange Baptist Church and Neuse Baptist Church, all in Kinston. He was state evangelist for Delaware and was an associational missionary in Johnston County.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Robert R. (Joyce) Hayes of Burlington, Mrs. Richard A. (Lovell) Rogers of Graham and Mrs. Mary Lou Millican of Greensboro; a son, Mr. Arthur Durham Catlett of Beaverton, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Rose P. Ennemoser of Garner; a stepson, Mr. Billy Pilkington of Wilmington; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Mae Catlett Harden of Mebane; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a half brother, Mr. Marion Ellis Powell; two brothers, Mr. Ashley Maynard Catlett and Mr. Frank S. Catlett; and three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Catlett Osborne, Mrs. Alice Catlett Wilson and Mrs. Louise Catlett Wilson.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Steven Walsh, pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Greensboro, and the Rev. Charles McMillan, interim pastor of Grove Park Baptist Church. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Orange County.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 tonight.

Mr. Grady N. Mebane

BURLINGTON - Mr. Grady Nelson Mebane, 72, of 2158 Canterbury Drive, died at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Schmidt Mebane who survives, and the son of Mr. Grady McFarland Mebane and Mrs. Evie Martha Fuqua Mebane, both deceased. He was retired from AT&T, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Triangle Woodworkers Association. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 17th Airborne 513, P.I.R., Co. D. in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the First Christian United Church of Christ.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Tracy Ellen) Demeyer of Fredericksburg, Va. and Mrs. Chris (Toni Marcelle) Sweesy of Cary; one sister, Mrs. Luther (Wilda) Ross of Burlington; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. James D. (Nora) Phillips.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Beth Kinnett, associate pastor at First Christian United Church of Christ, and the Rev. Robert Linens, pastor of Mount Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and at other times, at the home.

Mr. Eugene Wilkerson

BALDWIN, Wis. - Mr. Eugene Leroy Wilkerson, 76, of 800 Main St., died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight months of failing health.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dorothy Eleanor Menges Wilkerson, and the son of Mr. Harry Forrest Wilkerson and Mrs. Lelia Mae Godwin Wilkerson, both deceased. He was a retired postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a lieutenant with the 60th Signal Company during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Christian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy L. Draver of Burlington and Mrs. Cindy J. Eller of Gibsonville; four sons, Mr. Richard A. Wilkerson of Chisago, Minn., Mr. Allen D. Wilkerson of St. Louis, Mr. Steven Eugene Myers of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Mr. Michael Kelley Meyers of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. C. Powell Sykes, pastor.

The family will be at the church fellowship hall after the service.

Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
