Ms. Hattie R. Morrow
GRAHAM - Ms. Hattie Rozella Morrow, 53, of 413 Wade St., died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a long illness, three months critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Romie Burnette and Mrs. Annie Mae Morrow Burnette, both deceased. She attended Graham High School and was formerly employed in the service industry. She was a member of Cedar Cliff Holiness Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Joyce Bynum and Ms. Mary Morrow, both of Graham; a son, Mr. James Morrow of Graham; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Cedar Cliff Holiness Church on N.C. 87 South, by the Rev. David Terry, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rosa H. Wiley
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Rosa Holman Wiley, 56, of 533 N. Beaumont Ave., died Monday, July 27, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, after a short illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Bobby Wiley, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Ossie Covington Holman, who survives, and the late Mr. Wallace Holman Sr. She was a member of New Birth Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Mebane include a daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Beasley of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Ms. Dessaree Wiley of Minnesota; two stepsons, Mr. Barney Wiley of Burlington and Mr. Willie Wiley of Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Wiley of Hampton, Va., and Mrs. Linnie Richmond of Yanceyville; six brothers, Mr. Wallace Holman Jr. of Atlanta, Mr. John Holman of Chapel Hill, Mr. Charles Ezzard Holman of Yanceyville, and Mr. Phil Holman, Mr. Carl Holman and Mr. Joe Holman of Mebane; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Birth Baptist Church, Maple and Flanner streets, by the Rev. Gary T. Johnson, pastor. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aline Reid Cooper
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Aline Reid Cooper, 100, of Burlington, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, at her home.
A native of Gastonia, she was the wife of the late Mr. Thomas D. Cooper Sr., and the daughter of Dr. Robert McDowell Reid and Mrs. Lela Shuford Reid, both deceased. She was a graduate of Women's College (the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). She taught in Burlington City and Gastonia Schools and was a former member of the Burlington City School Board. She was a charter member of the Alamance County Service League and charter member of the Mentor Book Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a life member of the Women of the Church.
Survivors include five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Julie Cooper Newsom and Miss Jane Reid Cooper; a son, Mr. Thomas D. Cooper Jr.; and two brothers, Mr. Robert McDowell Reid Jr. and Mr. Martin Shuford Reid.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor, and Dr. Ron Tippens, former associate pastor.
The family will be at the church after the service.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 508 W. Davis St., Burlington, N.C. 27215; or to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.
Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Etta M. Martin
GIBSONVILLE - Ms. Etta Mae Martin, 84, of 603 Burlington Road, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center in Burlington after several years of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of Mr. Eddie Martin and Mrs. Rosa Miles Martin, both deceased. She was a member of United Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bettie Martin Clapp of Westbury, N.Y., and Mrs. Geraldine Martin Smith of the home; three sons, Mr. George P. "G.P." Martin of Richmond, Va., Mr. Floyd J. Martin of Landover, Md., and Mr. Jim H. Martin Sr., of Westbury; a foster daughter, Mrs. Alvenia Richmond Beasley of Hyattsville, Md.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ by the Rev. Robert A. McLaughlin, pastor of United Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. John A. Shaw
BURLINGTON - Mr. John A. Shaw, 75, of 419 Crescent Ave., died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Gladys R. Shaw, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of General Motors, and the past Worshipful Master of Augustus Lodge No. 642. He was a member of First Baptist Church on Apple Street.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Ms. Sandra Dorrall of Omaha, Neb., Ms. Carolyn Shaw of Denver, Colo., Ms. Donna Shaw of Greensboro, and Ms. Danette Shaw Smallwood of Burlington; five sisters, Mrs. Catherlene Thompson of Fayetteville, Mrs. Mary Gibbs of Upper Marlboro, Md., Mrs. Helen Edwards of Albany, Ga., Mrs. Rosa Edwards of Bronx, N.Y., and Mrs. Naomi Coleman of Teaneck, N.J.; two brothers, Mr. Ed Shaw of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Charles Shaw of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; two stepsisters, Mrs. Catherine C. Fox and Mrs. Ethelyne C. Headen, both of Liberty; four stepbrothers, Mr. Edward Cheek of Liberty, Mr. James Cheek of Baltimore, the Rev. Cecil J. Cheek of Graham, and the Rev. George Cheek of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. R.W. Styles, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Nealie S. Webster
MADISON - Mrs. Nealie Snider Webster, 81, of 2706 Forbes Drive, Greensboro, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Britthaven of Greensboro.
A native of Stokes County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Cabel M. Webster. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She was a member of New Lebanon Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Charles W. Webster of Greensboro and Mr. David Lee Webster of Mayodan; eight sisters, Mrs. Bertha S. Cox of Madison, Mrs. Lennis S. Dodson of Raleigh, Mrs. Omie S. Thompson, Mrs. Maggie S. Carter, Mrs. Sadie S. Garrison, Mrs. Anne S. Dove and Mrs. Patty S. Hopkins, all of Reidsville, and Mrs. Mary S. Brann of Browns Summit; two brothers, Mr. Teevie Snider of Madison and Mr. Jerry Snider of Reidsville; seven grandchildren, one of whom lives in Mebane; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Carl Webster, and a sister, Mrs. Betty S. Weber.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Madison. Burial will be in New Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Marvin E. Willis
MORGANTON - Mr. Marvin Edward Willis, 81, of Salem Road, died Sunday morning, July 26, 1998, at Grace Hospital in Morganton after a long illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1916, in Cleveland County, he was the husband of Mrs. Corine Self Willis, who survives, and the son of Mr. Walter Steel Willis and Mrs. Mary Kennedy Willis, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Italian Theatre during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Mary Shores of Greensboro; a son, Mr. Bruce Willis of Burlington; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Gene O. Willis.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's United Methodist Church cemetery in Lawndale by the Rev. Steve Kiser.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 5701 Falston Road, Lawndale, N.C. 28090.

Mrs. Laura H. Lamberth
SYLMAR, Calif. - Mrs. Laura Jane Holt Lamberth, 81, of 13394 Glen Oaks Blvd., died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, Calif., after several months of failing health, four days critical.
A native of Graham, she was the wife of the late Mr. Gordon Dawson "Jack" Lamberth, and the daughter of Mr. Joseph Seymour Holt and Mrs. Annie Lee Wilkinson Holt, both deceased. She was a graduate of Graham High School and a business student at High Point College. She was a sales employee of Crack and Joe's, her father's dry-goods store on Main Street in Graham. She later worked in similar positions in Graham and Burbank, Calif, where she moved in 1969.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Georgia) Kornbluth of New York City, Mrs. Jane Lea Lamberth of Chapel Hill and Mrs. Richard (Sara) Gallet of Aptos, Calif.; three sons, Mr. Gordon Dawson "Jack" Lamberth Jr. of Sylmar, Mr. Thomas Steven Lamberth of Sylmar and John Holt Lamberth of Madera, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Jolea Holt Yount of Graham; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Eugene Holt and Mr. Kuhl Holt.
A memorial service was held Sunday at the home of Mr. Jack Lamberth Jr. in Sylmar.

Mrs. Charlotte M. Bowden
SEATTLE - Mrs. Charlotte McHose Bowden, 89, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Seattle.
A long-time resident of Elon College, she was the wife of the late Dr. Daniel J. Bowden. Her husband was on the faculty of Elon College for 17 years and was dean of the college for 10 years. She and her husband moved to Indianapolis in 1953, where he headed the School of Religion at the University of Indiana. While they lived in Elon College, he served as pastor of several local Congregational Christian Churches, including the church in Haw River and Providence Church in Graham.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Doug Bowden, Mr. Charles Bowden and Mr. Bruce Bowden.
A memorial service will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17, at the Suquamish United Church of Christ in Suquamish, Wash.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to the American Cancer Society. Notes may be sent to the sons in c/o Dr. Douglas Bowden, 1734 N.E. 55th Place, Seattle, Wash., 98105.

GREENSBORO - Ms. Hattie R. Morrow of 413 Wade St., Graham, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Mrs. Hazel S. Payne
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hazel S. Payne, 80, of Alamance Health Care Center died at 4:34 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after one year of failing health. She was formerly of Cates Circle, Graham.
A native of Rowan County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Henderson "Bill" Payne, and the daughter of Mr. William Shives and Mrs. Pearl Jordan Shives, both deceased. She was retired from J. Spencer Love Hosiery Mill and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Richard A. (Pearl ) Jordan Jr. and Ms. Glenda Melton, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Richard (Becky) Hobson of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Maner of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ora Peck; and four brothers, Mr. Johnny Shives, Mr. Robert Shives, Mr. Ray Allmond and Mr. Eb Allmond.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Deep Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. James Moon, pastor, and the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. James (Shirley) Jefferson, 2262 Roney Lineberry Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
