Mr. Glenn E. Anderson
RALEIGH - Mr. Glenn Elwood Anderson, 83, of 121 Pasquotank Drive, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Mayview Convalescent Center.
Born July 24, 1914, in Asheville, he was the husband for 62 years of Mrs. Grace Curtis Anderson, who survives, and the son of Dr. James Garrett Anderson and Mrs. Lotte Lee Alexander Anderson, both deceased. He attended Duke University on a football scholarship and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He graduated in 1934 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and accounting.
He was an investment banker, employed with Kirchofer and Arnold Inc. in Raleigh from 1934 to 1947 as secretary, vice president and executive vice president. He became CEO of Carolina Securities Corporation in 1947, serving as director, president and chairman. In 1988, he joined Legg Mason Wood Waler and retired as senior advisor in April, 1998. In his 64 years in the securities industry, he served on many state and national regulatory bodies.
He was active in Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, served on the North Carolina Methodist Conference Commission on Higher Education and as a trustee of Greensboro College. He was treasurer of Rex Hospital Board of Trustees and a member of the Wake County Hospital Planning Committee. He served as president of the Raleigh-Durham Bond Club, and of the Sphinx Club, vice president of the United Fund of Raleigh and Wake County, and was active in many civic groups.
Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Ms. Charlotte A. Straney of Burlington; a son, Mr. Glenn E. "Chip" Anderson Jr. of Raleigh; a brother, Mr. Arthur Anderson of Asheville; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Guy B. (Margaret Anderson) Phillips Jr.; two brothers, Dr. J.B. Anderson and Dr. J. Garrett Anderson Jr.; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh by the Rev. George W. Johnson and the Rev. F. Owen Fitzgerald. Burial will be in Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

Mrs. Inez P. Mateo
WILMINGTON, Calif. - Mrs. Inez Phillips Mateo, 65, of 617 Wilmington Blvd., died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, 1998, , at San Pedro Penninsula Hospital in San Pedro, Calif., after an illness of 21 days, 14 days critical.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Charles Mateo, who died in 1996, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Pleasant Phillips and Mrs. Dollie Powell Phillips, both deceased.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Buck (Sarah) Stanfield of Burlington and Mrs. Fred (Dolly) Johnson of Graham; and four brothers, Mr. M. Holland Phillips, Mr. Joe T. Phillips, Mr. Jimmie D. Phillips and Mr. Othal G. Phillips, all of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Arlona Phillips and Miss Sylvia Phillips; and three brothers, Mr. Robert W. Phillips, Mr. M. Calvin Phillips and Mr. P. Huelon Phillips.
A memorial service will be confuted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Beverly Hills United Church of Christ by Dr. Chris Burr, pastor.
Memorials may be made to Beverly Hills United Church of Christ, 715 N. Church St. Burlington, N.C. 27217.
McClure Funeral Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brunie A. Mullinax
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Brunie Autry Mullinax, 90, of 100 Wade Coble Drive, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Twin Lanes Nursing Center after a long illness.
A native of Sampson County, she was the wife of the late Dr. Rhett Clifton Mullinax, and the daughter of Mr. Lilley Whitefrord Autry and Mrs. Lucy Adeline Williford Autry, both deceased. She was a retired counselor from East Carolina University and was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Davis of Bridgeville, Del.; a son, Dr. Dewey H. Yarley of Durham; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Patti Mullinax Mullins of Knoxville, Tenn.; four stepsons, the Rev. W. Gordon Mullinax of Lakeland, Fla., the Rev. Paul C. Mullinax of Shelby, Mr. David E. Mullinax of Taylors, S.C. and Mr. John R. Mullinax of Kannapolis; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington by the Rev. Ronnie Jones, pastor of First Wesleyan Church of Burlington.
Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dorothy B. Martin
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Dorothy Basson Martin, 90, of 3828 Wesley Court, Twin Lakes, died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at her home.
A native of New York City, she was the wife of the late Mr. M. Walter Martin, and the daughter of Mr. Benjamin Basson and Mrs. Bessie Hall Basson, both deceased. In 1932, she and her husband opened a Caramel Popcorn Store in Rockaway's Playland Amusement Park, which led to the operation of several foods stands including "Martin's Corner" at Beach, 98th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard on the boardwalk in Queens, N.Y.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Robert H. Martin of Elon College and Mr. John W. Martin of Miami; a sister, Mrs. Martha Tabakin of Spring Valley, N.Y.; a brother, Mr. Sam Basson of Tamarac, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jane E. Frederick, pastor of the Unity Church of Today.

Ms. Faye J. Kirkman
RANDLEMAN - Ms. Faye Johnson Kirkman, 78, of 109 Tabernacle St., died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
A native of Randolph County, she was retired from Thalhimer's. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Randleman.
Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Betty Cain Muller of Greensboro and Ms. Novella Snider of Climax; a brother, Mr. Joe F. Johnson of Liberty.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Randleman by the Rev. Stephen T. Johnson. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 300 S. Main St., Randleman, N.C. 27317.

Miss Mary M. Thompson
GIBSONVILLE - Miss Mary Magdalene Thompson, 76, of 103 S. Joyner St., died at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of Mr. Floyd E. Thompson Sr. and Mrs. Alice May Porterfield Thompson, both deceased. She was retired from Cone Mills, Minneola Plant and was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Martha Levens of the home and Ms. Ruth Moize of Gibsonville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Dr. John Franklin Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Bob Smith, former pastor. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.

Mr. Johnnie M. Hunter
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Johnnie Martin "Marty" Hunter, 37, of 8314-J Harris Pond Lane, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at his home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Richard Lee Hunter Sr. and Ms. Mary Batten Davis, who both survive, and the stepson of Mrs. Donna Faucette Hunter, who survives. He was employed by Page Net Communications and served 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Burlington.
Survivors other than his mother of Burlington and father and stepmother of Haw River include a daughter, Miss Erin Blythe Hunter of Snow Camp; a sister, Miss Cheryl Ann Hunter of Atlanta; a brother, Mr. Richard L. "Rick" Hunter Jr. of Burlington; a half sister, Miss Jeannie Rebecca Hunter of Haw River; and a half brother, Mr. Brandon Hunter of Haw River.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Kelly Victoria Hunter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Ken Simpson, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, and Dr. Garry Baldwin, pastor of Brookwood Baptist Church.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Jim Flipto Quinlin died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Camelot Nursing Center in Lynchburg, Va.

Mrs. Minnie J. Gill dies at age 101
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Minnie Dodson Jones Gill, 101, of 329 Carden St., died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at White Oak Manor after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John S. Jones and the late Mr. Julian Gill. She was the daughter of Mr. John M. Dodson and Mrs. Nannie Thompson Dodson, both deceased. She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen J. Lamb of Burlington; a son, Mr. Jesse W. Jones Sr. of Gibsonville; three brothers, Mr. Cletus Dodson of Haw River, Mr. Albert Dodson of Garner and Mr. Billy Dodson of Louisville, Ky.; two half sisters, Mrs. Margie Blanton of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Mrs. Rachel Bradshaw of Haw River; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Roy Dodson, Mr. Marvin Dodson and Mr. George Dodson; two half sisters, Ms. Faye Marley and Ms. Ruby Coggins; two half brothers, Mr. Elmore Dodson and Mr. Curtis Dodson; and a grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church cemetery by Mr. Elmer Hobbs.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 329 Carden St., Burlington.

Mr. William Hunter Jr.
GRAHAM - Mr. C. William 'Bill' Hunter, 73, of 507 Weaver Way, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at his home.
Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Richard S. Adanti
BURLINGTON - Mr. Richard S. Adanti, 60, of Burlington, died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Schenectady, N.Y., he was the husband of Mrs. Desiree G.J. Adanti, who survives, and the son of Mr. Paul Adanti and Mrs. Frances Stevens Adanti, both deceased. He was employed as Management Information Systems Management and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Sheryl Lutch of Atlanta, Mrs. Laura Caldbeck of Italy, Mrs. Desiree Pires of Burlington and Mrs. Denise Drinkwater of Saugus, Mass.; a son, Mr. Neal Adanti of St. Cloud, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Caryl Barnes of Liberty; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Leslie Leroy Adanti.
A private family memorial service was held.

Mrs. Rosa J. Brewer
MEBANE - Mrs. Rosa Jane Brewer, 88, of 4135 N.C. 54 East, Graham, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 6, 1910, in Patrick County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Clarence Brewer, and the daughter of Mr. Richard Lee Foley and Mrs. Sarah Huntley Foley, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of People's Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Mary Price of Graham and Ms. Faye Womble of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Johnny Brewer of Burlington and Mr. Richard Brewer of Saxapahaw; three sisters, Ms. Ethel Foley and Ms. Pearl Edwards, both of Virginia, and Ms. Josie McKinston of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Roy Foley of Virginia; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at People's Church by the Rev. James Christopher. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery.
