Mr. Alfred D. Pulliam Jr.

BROADWAY - Mr. Alfred Devonte Pulliam Jr., 15, of 310 Burgess Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, of injuries received in an automobile accident.

A native of Orange County, he was the son of Ms. Aneatha E. Lucas and Mr. Alfred Pulliam. He attended Lee County Senior High School, where he was a freshman.

Survivors other than his mother of Chapel Hill and father of Greensboro include his maternal grandmother, Ms. Naomi 'Big Ma' Evans of the home; two sisters, Ms. Myisha Evans and Ms. Amber Evans, both of the home; paternal grandmother, Ms. Nannie L. Pulliam of Hillsborough; and his great-grandmothers, Ms. Della C. Johnson of Durham and Ms. Mary Cheek of Rock Creek.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen's Chapel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill by the Rev. James Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Hester-Whitted-Day Funeral Home in Hillsborough from 1 to 7 this afternoon, and at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Thomas Mewborn

WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Thomas Britt Mewborn, 53, of 103 Greenhaven Drive, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at his home after five months of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Judi Green Mewborn, who survives, and the son of Mr. Virgil Hyman Mewborn Jr. and Mrs. Ruby Britt Mewborn, both deceased. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was an N.C. Licensed Optician and was a member of the N.C. Opticians Association. He was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Chris Berkwitch of Destin, Fla.; two daughters, Miss Angela Mewborn of Greenville, N.C., and Mrs. Britt Stadler of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Suzanne Jones of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Jane Stenberg of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a brother, Dr. Virgil H. Mewborn III of Burlington.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Suzanne Cloyd-Hultman.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

Rich and Thompson Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edith S. Hawkins

ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Edith Smith Hawkins, 68, of 716 S. Williamson Ave., died at 2:04 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after seven years of failing health, one week critical.

A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Walter Thomas Hawkins, and the daughter of Mr. John Monroe Smith and Mrs. Nannie May Parker Smith, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Stadler's Country Hams and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kathy Mansfield of Nashville, N.C.; four sons, Mr. John Hawkins and Mr. Carlton Hawkins, both of Elon College, Mr. Wayne Hawkins of Seattle and Mr. Shannon Farnham of New Bern; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Payne Ivey of Elon College; a brother, Mr. D.W. Smith of Graham; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Wheeler's Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Person County.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of a sister, Mrs. Shirley Ivey, 220 Monroe Lane, Elon College.

Ms. Moira J. Caffarey

SNOW CAMP - Ms. Moira J. Caffarey, 44, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center.

A native of England, she settled in the United States in 1980. She was a riding instructor and worked with the Belgium Olympic Team. She worked as a trainer at Wembley Farm and for private families, training students as well as horses.

A memorial service was conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at South Fork Friends Church in Snow Camp.

Memorials may be made to the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation, 335 Lancaster St., P.O. Box 369, West Boylston, Mass., 01583-0369.

The Cremation Society of the Carolinas Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Jeannette W. Enoch

BURLINGTON - Ms. Jeannette Wrenn Enoch, 48, of 2107 Martin St., died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at the Hospice Home of Burlington after a long illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Dean Alvis Wrenn and Mrs. Clara Bell Forbis Wrenn, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was the former chairwoman of the March of Dimes campaign and was a volunteer with Burlington City Schools and the Cummings High School Band Boosters. She was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Michael Bryan Enoch and Mr. Bradley Stephen Enoch, both of the home; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Marie McCraken of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Alvis Cleo Wrenn of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Jerry Wayne Enoch II and Mr. Jeffrey Wayne Enoch.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at People's Memorial Christian Church by the Rev. C. Max Allman, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Andre Thompson

BURLINGTON - Mr. Andre Thompson of 317 Key St. died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Mrs. Norma Miles Canty and Mr. Charlie 'Jimmy' Thompson, both deceased. He was formerly employed by Annadeen and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Arches Grove United Church of Christ, where he was a co-founder of the Junior Usher Board.

Survivors include foster mother, Mrs. Judy T. Pickard; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara P. Freeman of Brooklyn and Mrs. Jerry P. Taylor of Burlington; and five brothers, Mr. Michael Snipes of Marietta, Ga., Mr. James Day, Mr. Daniel Day, Mr. Terrence Canty and Mr. Thaddus Canty, all of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Charles Thompson Jr.; and two sisters, Ms. Deborah Bolding and Ms. Patty Denise Day.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Arches Grove United Church of Christ, by the Rev. William H. Carr, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 Saturday evening, and at other times at the home.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Annie Mae Lambe Jones, 74, of 507 Everett St., died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mrs. Viola R. Ireland

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Viola Ringwald Ireland, formerly of Parkview Drive, died Thursday morning, Dec. 11, 1997, at Pinehurst Regional Medical Center in Pinehurst.

Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Mr. Brandon L. Paul

BURLINGTON - Mr. Brandon Lee Paul of 1202 Sharpe Road, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Walter Lee Paul and Mrs. Queen Plemmer Paul, who both survive. He attended Burlington City Schools and graduated from Williams High School in 1992, where he served as parliamentarian, president of Vica Club, member of the Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball teams, Freshman class representative and senior year homecoming king. He played City Youth Basketball and was a member of the Burlington-Graham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. He was a graduate of Winston-Salem Barber College and worked as a barber at the Barber Center in Burlington. He attended Union Chapel United Church of Christ.

Survivors other than his parents of Burlington include paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula Beasley Paul of Burlington; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Brown Plemmer of Tarboro.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church on Apple Street by Dr. R.W. Styles, pastor, the Rev. Ervin Milton, pastor of Union Chapel United Church of Christ and the Rev. Steven Clay, pastor of Morgantown Baptist Church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at First Baptist Church from 7 to 8 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.

Sharpe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clara F. Palmer

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Clara Faye Palmer, 81, of N.C. 8, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at her home.

Born June 1, 1916, in Davidson County, she was the wife of Mr. John F. Palmer, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. William 'Will' Hedrick and Mrs. Ida Belle Swing Hedrick, both deceased. She was a member of Cotton Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than her husband of Mountain Vista Health Park in Denton include a son, Mr. John Wayne Palmer of Tallahassee, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Linda F. Taylor of Candler, Mrs. Brenda Apple of Gibsonville and Mrs. Priscilla Graham of Florence, S.C.; two brothers, Mr. Lowell Hedrick and Mr. J.W. Hedrick, both of Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Betty Harvey, Mrs. Nancy Swing and Mrs. Lucille Garner, all of Lexington, and the Rev. June Lambeth of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. William Hedrick; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Palmer.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Cotton Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Edgar Armfield Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home of a grandson, Mr. Bobby Raby Jr., 3440 Hedrick Mill Road, Lexington.

Mr. Joseph F. Boone

McLEANSVILLE - Mr. Joseph Fletcher Boone, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at Wesley Long Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jamestown.

A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Josephine Anderson Boone, who survives. He served in the 10th Reconnaissance Troop in the Calvary of the U.S. Army during Word War II. He was a retired printer from Blue Bell and a retired farmer. He was a life member of the McLeansville Wildlife Club and was a fisherman. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include five sisters, Ms. Lena Trainor and Ms. Bertha Hatem, both of Mobile, Ala., Ms. Margaret Smithey of Greensboro, Ms. Lelia Lucas of Burlington and Ms. Betty Brady of Graham.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Funeral Home Chapel in Greensboro. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery in Greensboro.

The family will be at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, cemetery Fund, 5120 Burlington Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27405; or to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 60 Bay St., Staten Island, N.Y. 10301.
