Mr. William Totten
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. William 'Bill' Totten, 68, of 226 W. Church St. died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at his home.
Born April 3, 1929, in Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Miles Totten, who survives, and the son of Mr. Fred Brown Williamson, who survives, and the late Mrs. Mary Totten Williamson. He was a member of Leasburg Masonic Lodge No. 648, was a retired employee of Dan River Mills and was a self-employed plumber. He was a member of Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Yanceyville include two daughters, Mrs. Shelia Diane Williamson of Yanceyville and Mrs. Vickie T. Hinton of Durham; five sons, Mr. Jerry Totten and Mr. Sherman Totten, both of Durham, Mr. David Totten and Mr. Carl Miles, both of Yanceyville, Mr. Willie Irvin Murray of Milwaukee; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Williamson Bigelow of New Rochelle, N.Y.; a brother, Mr. Fred Junior Williamson of Yancyville; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Grove Memorial Building in Yanceyville by the Rev. Melvin Paylor. Burial will be in Yanceyville Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at Providence Baptist Church from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mr. Edward T. Clapp
WILSON - Mr. Edward T. Clapp, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997.
He was the husband of Mrs. Catherine Moore Clapp and was a retired thread-sales representative.
Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Ms. Donna Clapp of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Keith Clapp of Charlotte and Mr. Eddie Clapp of Burlington; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dee Ann Macomson of New York City; a step son Mr. R.G. 'Mike' Macomson III of Badin Lake; a sister Ms. Edith Clapp of Graham; three brothers, Mr. Charles Clapp of Graham, Mr. Wade Clapp of Haw River and Mr. Earl Clapp of Burlington and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Wilson. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately after the funeral.

Mrs. Kathleen Shoffner
LIBERTY - Mrs. Kathleen Smith Shoffner, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
A graduate of Elon College, she was a former teacher at Franklinville, Liberty, Grays Chapel and Nathanael Greene Schools. She was a member of the Liberty Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Liberty Homemakers Club. She was a member of Smithwood United Church of Christ.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Carolyn S. Coble and Ms. Libby S. Smith, both of Liberty, Ms. Mary Agnes Shoffner of Durham and Ms. Sarah S. Schacht of Venice, Calif.; two sisters, Ms. Sarah Jane Smith and Ms. Frances Kimrey, both of Burlington; four brothers, Mr. Franklin Smith of Pleasant Garden, Mr. Ralph Smith of Liberty, Mr. Herbert Smith of Bridgeton and Mr. John Smith of Prince George, Va.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Ms. Libby Smith, 1873 Smith-Adkins Road Ext., Liberty.

Mr. Walter E. Troxler
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Mr. Walter Edward Troxler, 89, of 632 Jubilee St., died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at Harborside Heath Care Center in Rockledge, Fla.
Born April 22, 1908, in Gibsonville, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Estelle Ingle Troxler, and the son of Mr. William Henry Troxler and Ms. Sallie Roney, both deceased. He was retired and moved to Central Florida in 1994. He was a past member of the Gibsonville Rotary Club. He was a member of Local No. 77 and was a member of Springwood Presbyterian Church in Whitsett, where he was a deacon.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Sarah Pope of Melbourne; a son, Mr. Henry E. Troxler of Edgewater, Md.; a sister, Ms. Virginia T. Creasy of Gibsonville; a brother, Mr. Ben Troxler of Gibsonville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, at Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carolyn Nelson
STONEVILLE - Mrs. Carolyn Marlowe Nelson, 48, of 181 Woodbriar Drive, died Sunday evening, Dec. 7, 1997, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Leaksville in Rockingham County, she was the wife of Mr. Talmadge 'Ted' Paris Nelson Jr., who survives, and the daughter of Ms. Jacqueline Martin Marlowe, who survives. She was retired as deputy clerk, civil division of Rockingham County Superior Court. She served nine years in the criminal division and 14 years in civil division. She was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she was a deacon, past president and vice president of Christian Women's Fellowship, former Sunday school teacher and was active in the Ladies Aid.
Survivors other than her husband of the home, formerly of Burlington, and mother of Eden include a daughter, Ms. Gina Leigh Nelson of Cullowhee; a brother, Mr. Charles Marlowe Jr. of Eden; a sister, Ms. Kimberly Marlowe of Richmond, Va..
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery.

Mrs. Lessie P. Hunt
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lessie Featherstone Paylor Hunt, 93, of 403 Florence St., died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of several months.
A native of Person County, she was the daughter of Mr. Abraham Featherstone and Mrs. Fannie F. Gant Featherstone, both deceased. She was a member of Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sally Paylor Curry of the home and Mrs. Alice Paylor Graham of New York City; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Memorial United Church of Christ by the Rev. Steve Oldham, pastor. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Douglas Hamilton Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. M. Douglas Hamilton Sr., 72, of 2209 Combs St., died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after eight years of failing health, two months critical.
A native of Robeson County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ruby Glasgow Hamilton, and the son of Mr. Pierce Hamilton and Mrs. Flossie Mamie Cottingham Hamilton, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dillon, S.C., and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was retired from Kayser-Roth after 40 years of service. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Hamilton Monk of Burlington; a son, Mr. M. Douglas 'Dickie' Hamilton Jr. of Burlington; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Nettie Hamilton Goodyear; and a brother, Mr. Thomas Stephen Hamilton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alvin Horne, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Raleigh Blackstock
BURLINGTON - Mr. Raleigh Eugene Blackstock, 63, of 409 Flanner St., died at 11:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at his home after several years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Hilda Wilson Blackstock, who survives, and the son of Mr. Raleigh Joseph Blackstock and Mrs. Lettie Wakely Blackstock, both deceased. He was retired as a manager for McDonald's restaurants. He was a member of East Burlington Church of God.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Randy Thomas Blackstock of the home and Mr. Todd Eugene Blackstock of Elon College; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lee Davis of Burlington and Mrs. Irene Goswick of Chapel Hill; three brothers, Mr. Clyde Lewis Blackstock of Odenton, Md., Mr. A.T. Blackstock of Burlington and Mr. Walter J. Blackstock of Bracey, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Ricky Brazel Blackstock; and a brother, Mr. Bill Blackstock.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel by the Rev. Jerry W. Tow, pastor of East Burlington Church of God. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas Garrison
MEBANE - Mr. Thomas Franklin Garrison, 85, of 4121 Mebane-Rogers Road, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Coble Health Center in Durham after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Margaret Patton Garrison, who survives, and the son of Mr. Leslie Leon Garrison and Mrs. Maude Walker Garrison, both deceased. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, where he was a former trustee and former deacon.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Dorothy Fisher of Greensboro and Ms. Kathy Garrison of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Alice Kapp of Mebane and Mrs. Elise Isley of Burlington; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Allen Huff, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Norman Clapp
BURLINGTON - Mr. Norman Clapp, 80, of 319 Kilroy St. died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Mrs. Queenie Clapp Lee. He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries. He was a member of Augustus Lodge No. 642 of Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masonic Order. He was a member of Springdale AME Church, where he was a member of the Steward Board.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Shirley Ruth Moore, Mrs. Erma G. Elmore and Mrs. Edna Russell, all of Burlington, Mrs. Mary Lou Hunter and Mrs. Darlene Clapp, both of Graham; two sons, Mr. Ronald E. Clapp and Mr. Norman J. 'Sonny' Clapp, both of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Burton of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Clara Breeze and Mrs. Bronnie Shoffner; and five brothers, Mr. William Otis Clapp, Mr. Nelson Clapp, Mr. Aldon Clapp, Mr. Clarence Lee and Mr. Thurman Lee.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Springdale AME Church by the Rev. Saundra Bullock, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Coleman Patterson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Coleman Russell 'Slim' Patterson, 64, of 512 Avon Ave., died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Manley Patterson and Mrs. Eliza Isley Patterson, both deceased. He was a member of Rock Creek AME Church.
Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Martha Morris, Mrs. Claudene Mapp, Ms. Anna Burns, Ms. Kathy Mapp, Mrs. Russilina Enoch; Mrs. Rosezetta Lee and Ms. Tara Burns, all of Burlington, and Mrs. Toni Smith of Sedalia; three sons, Mr. Anthony Donnell Burns and Mr. Charles Burns, both of Burlington, and Mr. Lawrence 'Bud' Burns of Snow Camp; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Ratliff of Snow Camp, Mrs. Esther Patterson of Liberty and Mrs. Elizabeth Siler of Staley; a brother, Mr. Richard Patterson of Snow Camp; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
