Mr. Willie L. Lowe

ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Willie Lofton Lowe, 87, of 1509 Elon-Ossipee Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a short illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Ruth Gerringer Lowe and the son of Mr. Daniel Rankin Lowe and Mrs. Daisy Truitt Lowe, both deceased. He was owner and operator of Lowe Garden Center for 36 years and was formerly employed by Burlington Industries Pioneer Plant. He was a member of Shallowford United Church of Christ, where he was a member of the Board of Deacons for two terms; a member of the Shallowford Memorial Association for 38 years and was interim president for Life of the Shallowford Memorial Association; and a member of the Men's Bible class.

Survivors include a son, Mr. Hubert G. Lowe of Wilmington; two daughters, Mrs. Billy (Lois) Alcon and Mrs. Bill (Joann) Woods, both of Elon College; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Andrews of Gibsonville and Mrs. Elton (Kitty) Apple of Elon College; three brothers, Mr. Vance Lowe of Haw River, Mr. Blair Lowe of Elon College and Mr. Johnny K. Lowe of Florida; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Shirley Ann Lowe; two brothers, Mr. Ralph Lowe and Mr. Clyde Lowe; and a sister, Ms. Lillian Sims.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Shallowford United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leslie C. Jolley, pastor, the Rev. Dave Gilbert of Bethlehem Christian Church and the Rev. Tommy Richardson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Samuel Ward Jr.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Samuel 'Sammy' Newton Ward Jr., 65, of 431 K Sellars St., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at his home.

A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Samuel 'Sam' Newton Ward Sr. and Mrs. Addie Rachel Anderson Ward, both deceased. He was employed with Cone Mills in Haw River for 30 years. He was a member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Thelma W. Rich of Graham and Mrs. Doris W. Stadler of Burlington; two half sisters, Mrs. Edna W. Hargrove of Greensboro and Ms. Dorothy Carlton of Mebane; and a half brother, Mr. Arnold Ward of Mebane.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Geraldine Compton; and two brothers, Mr. Robert R. Ward and Mr. Norman C. Ward.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Don Pegg, pastor of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Edgar Stafford Sr.

COLLINSVILLE, Va. - Mr. Edgar Jerome Stafford Sr., 69, of 237 Patsy Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1928, in Bassett, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Garnett Hancock Stafford, who survives, and the son of Mr. James P. Stafford and Mrs. Annie E. Franklin Stafford, both deceased. He served in the U.S. Navy. He helped form the Bassett Fire Department and was a member of the Collinsville Fire Department. He was a member of the Barks R-C Club and the Danville R-C Club. He was a member of the Boat Club in Burlington. He was owner of Staffords Music, Collinsville Launderette and the Econo Wash in Martinsville.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Ms. Jo Lovell of Bassett, Ms. Penny Nolen of Kernersville and Ms. Teresa Bray of Reidsville; a son, Mr. Eddie Stafford of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. C.M. Stafford and Mr. Yancey Stafford, both of Bassett; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett by the Rev. Dale Dyer. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.

The family will be at Collins Chapel from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mrs. Ethel L. Rudd

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ethel Louise Stanley Rudd, 73, of 1567 Stonewall Springs Road, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at her home after three years of failing health, three weeks critical.

A native of Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Elton Lee Rudd and the daughter of Mr. N.B. Stanley and Mrs. Edna Young Stanley, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Long's Chapel United Church of Christ, a member of the choir for 50 years; a life member of the Women's Fellowship of the United Church of Christ and a member of The Ladies Sunshine Class. She was retired from Scott Clinic and volunteered with the Ladies Auxillary at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn R. Roney of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Jerry Wayne Rudd and Mr. Robert Lynn Rudd, both of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Clarice Richardson and Mrs. Lula McDonald, both of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Curtis Stanley of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Long's Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. C.L. Homer Frye, pastor, and Dr. Kenneth Register, retired United Church of Christ minister. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrrangements.

Mrs. Luvenia Mebane

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Luvenia Mebane of 526 Dudley St., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at her home.

She was a native of Alamance County.

The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Barbara B. Fulp

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Barbara Terrell Blackwell Fulp, 65, of 2734 Blanche Drive, died at 11:04 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of Mr. Charles Terrell and Mrs. Stella Maynor Terrell, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Joey Blackwell and Ms. Carrie Lynn Blackwell, both of Burlington, and Ms. Ellen Blackwell of Bethesda, Md.; a son, Mr. Brian Blackwell of Davie, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Susan Blackwell; two sisters, Mrs. Dolly Lynn and Mrs. Jessie Wilson.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Nickelson. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Minnie Ward

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Minnie Lea Pruitt Ward, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Mr. Joseph Edward Ward, who survives. She was a member of Vickery United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than her husband, formerly of Burlington, include two daughters, Ms. Patsy Ward Haley of Garden City, S.C., and Ms. Jo E. Ward of Maine; two sisters, Ms. Nannie Pruitt and Ms. Dorothy McDaniel, both of Reidsville; four brothers, Mr. Matthew Pruitt, Mr. Jack Pruitt and Mr. Junior Pruitt, all of Reidsville, and Mr. Buck Pruitt of Eden; two grandchildren; and a great-grand child.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Entombment will be in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Ethelyene Boyd

HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Ethelyene W. Boyd, 77, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at her home.

Born Sept. 27, 1920, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Mr. Tom Walker and Mrs. Callie Kimber Walker, both deceased.

Survivors include two sons, Mr. Walter Boyd of Hillsborough and Mr. Luther 'Butch' Boyd of White Plains, N.Y.; a sister, Ms. Catterie Cobb of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mebane's Chapel Holiness Church by the Rev. Vernice Wright. Burial will be in Hillsborough City Cemetery.

The family will be at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening.

Mr. Eugene Carroll Jr.

PROVIDENCE - Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll Jr., 68, of 274 Carroll Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center after several months of failing health.

A native of Danville, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ruth Gilbert Carroll, who survives, and the son of Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll Sr., who survives, and the late Mrs. Annie Lee Wood Carroll. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Caswell County Schools and graduated from North Carolina State University. He attended Purley United Methodist Church. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, where he served in market development and was coordinator of county agricultural fairs. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Yanceyville include two sons, Mr. Eugene Edgar Carroll III of Greensboro and Mr. James Gilbert Carroll of Archdale; a brother, Mr. Sidney Irvin Carroll of Providence; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Hooper Funeral Home Chapel in Yanceyville by Dr. Floyd Morrow and the Rev. Ken Clark. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 this evening and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1005 Bullard Court, Suite 105, Raleigh, N.C. 27615.
