Jerrold Davis
MOORESBORO - Mr. Jerrod Bernard Davis, 28, of 119 Mirtis Lane, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Gladys Davis and Jerry Freeman of Mooresboro.
He graduated from Chesnee High School. He was employed by Metals America as a forklift driver.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a grandfather, Caldwell Davis of Mooresboro; a brother, Justin Freeman of the home; a sister, Carnisha Davis of the home; a special friend, Oma Elizabeth Hunt of Shelby; and five godchildren, Patricia Elaine Hunt, Nicole Denise Hunt, Frederick Alonzo Hunt, Selena Bristol, and Tyron Kelly.
The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Suck Creek Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. with the Rev. Tony Macopson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Thrift
SHELBY - Mr. Bobby Lawrence Thrift, 60, of 1205 Spring Drive, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Hillard William and Genlle Ross Thrift. He retired from PPG Industries after 25 years of service and was a member of Waco Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Joe Thrift and John Wayne Thrift, whose ashes will be buried with him; five brothers, Charles Thrift, David Thrift, Richard Thrift, Hillard Thrift Jr. and Harold Dean Thrift; a sister, Alma Mae Carpenter; and a grandson, Bobby Dwayne Thrift.
He is survived by his wife, Mary "Libby" Green Thrift; a son, Jimmy Thrift of Charlotte; two daughters, Rose Thrift of Rock Hill, S.C., and Marie Ruppe of Rutherfordton; two brothers, J.T. Thrift of Kings Mountain and Roger Dale Thrift of Grover; and three grandchildren, Trey Ruppe, Taylor Ruppe and Joshua Ruppe.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Moss officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Capernaum Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Joseph Sutton
SHELBY - Mr. Joseph Sutton, 70, of 1101 North Morgan St., died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Coweata County, Ga., he was the son of the late Bob and Mattie Harris Sutton. He was a retired employee of Cannon Mills of Kannapolis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Davenport Sutton; a sister, Janie Mae Sutton; and four brothers, Leroy Sutton, Obbie Sutton, Willie Frank Sutton and John Robert Sutton.
He is survived by one daughter and a son-in-law, Bernita Sutton and Anthony Wilson; two stepsons, Ronald Davenport of Shelby and Donald Davenport of Gastonia; two stepdaughters, Sylvia Fowler of Shelby and Selma Pompey of Taylor, S.C.; three brothers, J.T. Sutton and James Sutton of Shelby and Willie Bob Sutton of Atlanta; five sisters, Alberta Rankin, Jessie Sutton Rainey, Mary Hargro, Annie Brown and Betty Sutton, all of Shelby; and one grandson, Jamarus Sutton of Shelby.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. Lillie Mae Smith officiating.

Ethel Melton
BOSTIC - Mrs. Ethel Gurley Melton, 89, of Bostic, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sunshine United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Zepher Bridges
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Zepher Ree Lovelace Bridges, 92, of Crawley Memorial Nursing Center, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Charley C. and Mamie M. Harrill Lovelace. She was retired from the John Bell Co. and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Ellenboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Troy L. Bridges, and a sister, Pansy Lovelace Jones.
She is survived by a niece, Nellene Jones Whitaker of Ellenboro; and three nephews, Corbett Jones of Winston-Salem, Glenn Jones of Granite Shoals, Texas, and Clyde Jones of Ellenboro.
The funeral will be today at 3 at Bethel Baptist Church, Ellenboro, with the Rev. Joe Forbes officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Ruby Sisk
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Ruby Inez Culberson Sisk, 81, of 700 Self St., formerly of Gastonia, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Souls Harbor Tabernacle with the Rev. James Chambers officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Linda Payseur, 1007 Longs Shoals Road, Lincolnton.

Donald Philbeck
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Donald Wayne Philbeck, 18, of 227 Cherokee Ford Road, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000.
A graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 9 at the home of his aunt and uncle, Kathy and Blanton, 233 Cherokee Ford Road, Blacksburg, S.C.

Timothy Lail
GROVER - Mr. Timothy Boyce "Shady" Lail, 15, of 2207 Cleveland Ave., died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Joyce Cabiness Pruitt of Grover and Tommy Lail of Shelby. He was employed by Lail Plumbing and was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church. He was a student at Parker Street School in Kings Mountain.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his stepmother, Cynthia Lail of Shelby; his stepfather, Robert Pruitt of Grover; three brothers, Thomas Lail, Trevor Lail and Christopher Lail, all of Shelby; two sisters, Chrystal Davidson of Shelby and Pamela Cabiness of Shelby; a nephew, Jacob Bramlett; a niece, Catllin Davidson; maternal grandparents, George and Nancy Blasavage of Gastonia and Steve and Sheigko Cabiness of California; a paternal grandmother, Kathryn Holcombe of Shelby; and stepgrandparents, Bobby and Katie Pruitt of Shelby.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Waters officiating.

Billie Henson
CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Billie Eugene Henson, 75, of 150 Chesterfield Road, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Mack and Dollie Byars Henson. He was retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant and was a charter member of Plainview Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davis Henson.
He is survived by a daughter, Pat Willis of Ellenboro; a brother, Claude Henson of Cliffside; three sisters, Lula Kennedy of Caroleen, Macie Hardin of Cliffside and Margaret Green of Forest City; a stepbrother, Lloyd Silver of Henrietta; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Plainview Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Toney and the Rev. Fae Walker officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Ben Weathers
BOSTIC - Mr. Ben E. Weathers, 73, of 384 Hunt Road, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Forest City.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late George W. and Minnie Queen Weathers. He retired as a millright with Baxter Corp. and was a member of Golden Valley Missionary Methodist Church. He served with the Army in Italy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Alvin Weathers.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Woods Weathers of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Frank Sherrill Jr. of Shelby, Judy and Don Saldo of Grover, Jean and Donald Gosnell of Spindale and Marie and Steve Lowery of Bostic; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Lamar Hewitt and Bryan Glisson officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

WEST JEFFERSON - Mrs. Amanda Gaynell Peace Scruggs, 57, of 309 Burkett Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late W.T. and Bessie Morris Peace. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Stevey Amanda Randolph.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Dean Scruggs; a son, John Langley of Shelby; three daughters, Beth Hamrick of Newport News, Va., Angie Miller of Vale and Mandy Ballard of Mooresboro; four brothers, Thomas Luther Peace of Kings Mountain, Caldwell Peace of Cherryville, Calvin Peace of Polkville and Michel Peace of Shelby; four sisters, Hazel Morgan, Patsy White, Joyce Parker and June Washburn, all of Shelby; 10 grandchildren, Travis Langley, Nickey Langley, Jason Stapleton, John Stapleton, Kristofer Hamrick, Benjamin Hamrick, Wesley Owens, Emily Miller, Adam Randolph and Kelly Ballard.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Sam Synder officiating.
The family received friends Thursday night at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home and will be at the home of John Langley, 2102 Honey Haven Farm Road, Shelby.

Charles Proctor
FOREST CITY - Mr. Charles David Proctor, 82, of 122 Windover Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Florence Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.
Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery.

Garrett Hill
MARION - Mr. Garrett Dean Hill, 17, of 5189 Cove Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000.

Thelma Tesseniar
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Thelma Burgess Tesseniar, 84, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Rosco W. and Laura Jane Radford Burgess. She was a retired textile employee and was a member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil B. Tesseniar.
She is survived by three stepsons, Edward Tesseniar of Warner-Robbins, Ga., Bobby Tesseniar of Shelby and George Tesseniar of Greer, S.C.; three brothers, Grover Burgess, Sam Burgess and Worth Burgess, all of Caroleen; four sisters, Lillie Vickers, Lorene Greene and Betty Rash, all of Forest City, and Margaret Hodge of Spindale; eight stepgrandchildren; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Harris officiating.
Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Clayton 'Red' Heavner
LAWNDALE - Mr. Clayton Ruffus "Red" Heavner, 69, of P.O. Box 74, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 5, 1932, in Cleveland County, he was a retired maintenance supervisor at Drexel Furniture Co. in Shelby, where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a former member of the fire brigade of Drexel Furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Clayton and Selma Powell Heavner; and four brothers, Paul Heavner, Roger Heavner, C.P. Heavner and Donald Heavner.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pansy Lail Heavner of the home; two sons, Jerry Heavner of Shelby and Danny Heavner of the home; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Heavner of Shelby, Tom and Bonnie Heavner and James Heavner, all of Lawndale, and Kenneth and Jeni Heavner of Shelby; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jo Ann Bell of Shelby and Marie and Clyde Alexander of Morganton; two grandsons, Alan Heavner and his wife, Kellie, of Boiling Springs, and Dylan Heavner of Casar; and a granddaughter, Emily Willis of Casar.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Michael Shumate and Jack Waters officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Dot Conley
SHELBY - Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Turner Conley, 83, of 1715 Fallston Road, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Cleophus and Hannah McSwain Turner. She was retired from Conley's Grocery and Esther Mill and was a homemaker. She was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church, Shelby Chapter No. 110 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Past Matrons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Conley; a son, Bill Conley; and 11 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Jim Shaver of Charlotte; a sister, Nellie Vaughan of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Doris Conley; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Conley and wife, Connie, of Gastonia, Rodney Conley and wife, Kim, of Shelby and Jon Shaver of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Conley, Austin Conley, Hannah Conley; and one step great-grandchild, Jordan Russell.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Daggerhart officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Quinton Roseboro
GROVER - Mr. Quinton Lamar Roseboro, 17, of 113 Jetter Road, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born August 21, 1983, the son of Richard Lee Roseboro of Grover and Rose Mary Roseboro of Lawndale.
He is preceded in death by two grandfathers, Joe Lee Roseboro and John Downs Jr.
He is survived by three brothers, Ricco Roseboro and Ryan Roseboro, both of Lawndale, and Justin Owens of Gastonia; two grandmothers, Cora Lee Roseboro of Grover and Rosa Lee Downs of Lawndale; one great-grandmother, Parry Lee Stroud of Lawndale; 11 aunts; five uncles; and three nieces.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church in Patterson Springs with the Rev. Walter B. Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

A graveside service will be today at 3 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain with Hospice Chaplain David Fambrough officiating.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Stoney William Jenkins, 61, of 311 Morning Star Lake Road, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.

A native of Cleveland County, she graduated from Shelby High School in 1963 and attended King's College in Charlotte. She was a former associate of Kmart and a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of Cavalry Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alton Woodrow Strickland Sr.; two brothers-in-law, Dennis W. Ledford and Ralph L. Street and his wife, Sunee.
She is survived by her mother, Rachel Jackson Strickland of Shelby; her husband of 35 years, Albert Franklin Street Sr. of the home; a son, Albert Franklin Street Jr. of the home; two brothers, Alton "Woody" Strickland Jr. and Tyrome J. "Ty" Strickland, both of Shelby; a sister, Edna "Eddie" Strickland Ledford of Shelby; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ira and Doris Wright Street of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Becky Street Ledford McNeilly and husband, Bill, of Shelby; six nieces and nephews, Alton W. "Woodley" Strickland III, Matthew Strickland, Natalie Strickland, Dorothy "Penny" Strickland and Kenneth Ledford Jr. and Brad W. Ledford; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Ledford of Shelby; and a sister-in-law, Deborah Lail of Shelby.

LAKE BLUFF, Ill. - Mrs. Bessie Irene Cooke Meade Warlick, 87, of 700 Jenkisson Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Pebble Brook Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born April 9, 1915, a daughter of the late Aaron Lee and Hattie Wray Cooke. She was retired from public work and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ley Roy Meade; her second husband, Roy Warlick; three sons, Ray Meade, Ralph Meade and Carrolle Meade; four brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by two sons, William Steve Meade of Houston and Jack Meade of Lake Bluff, Ill.; a daughter, Ruth Chisholm of Waukegan, Ill; two brothers, Aaron Cook of Hickory and Claude Cook of Casar; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest W. Speagle officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
