John Warlick
SHELBY - Mr. John E. Warlick, 76, of 1009 W. Dixon Blvd., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Sept. 26, 1923, the son of the late D.H. and Eunice Randall Warlick. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Company as a plant engineer after 35 years of service. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church where he was a member of the men's Sunday school class and the Prime Timers. He served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He was a member of Monday Senior's Bowling League. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in World War II in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Watts Warlick.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Goode Warlick of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Sonja Warlick of Johnson City, Tenn., and Kenneth and Mia Warlick of Atlanta, Ga.; one stepdaughter and her husband, Linda and Richard Chalcraft of Dublin, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Vocci, Carrie Hernandez, Hayden Warlick and Sara Warlick; one brother and his wife, Frank and Beatrice Warlick of Kings Mountain; and five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Harbour of Sanford, Faye and Nelson Bridges of Bessemer City, Rachel and Ray Todd of New Bern, Joyce Spinks of Chapel Hill and Melba Hendricks of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Brackett and Larry King officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service at the church and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Westview Baptist Church, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, N.C. 28152.
Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Benson
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Minnie Alberta Benson, 92, of 317 Doc Wehunt Road, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Great Falls, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Hattress and Daisey McCullough Barbour. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Rudisill Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church of Cherryville where she served on the deaconess and missionary boards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Benson Sr.
She is survived by two sons, James Benson Jr. and Willie Benson, both of Cherryville; two daughters, Alline B. Montgomery and Pauline Garland, both of Cherryville; two brothers, Willie Barbour of Salisbury and Hattress Barbour Jr. of New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Chappell Lee Holmond of Salisbury and Mrs. Madie Gibson of Cleveland, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Rudisill Chapel Church in Cherryville with the Rev. Steven Wingate officiating. Burial will follow at Cherryville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 at the church.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ardie Hill
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Ardie Warlick Hill, 88, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at White Oak Manor Nursing Center where she was a resident.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Alexander United Methodist Church with the Revs. John James Powell and Kevin Rohm officiating. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Padgett & King Mortuary.

John Palmer
AVONDALE - Mr. John Gus Palmer, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Thompson Brothers Funeral Home.

A.V. White
SHELBY - Mr. A.V. White, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late John B. and Sarah Jane Sigmon White. He was retired from Stonecutter and Dover Mills. He was a charter member of Morningstar Baptist Church for 34 years. He was a World War II Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude White and Robert White; and one sister, Eugenia Ledford.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Willis White; three sons and daughters-in-law, A.V. Jr. and Donna White of Casar, Jack E. and Revonda White of Fallston and Paul S. and Connie White of Polkville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley White and Ken Hughes of Shelby and Pat and Randy Steffey of Lattimore; one brother, Zeno White of Polkville; three sisters, Grace Ramsey and Ann V. McCombs, both of Lexington and Ola M. Ramsey of Bostic; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Morningstar Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Leslie officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Morningstar Baptist Church Missions Fund, 832 S. Post Road, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Loma Watts
SHELBY - Mrs. Loma Jenkins Watts, 86, of 706 N. Morgan St., died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Delta, Ala., she was the daughter of the late John F. and Evie Carter Jenkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Independent Baptist Church in Shelby.
She is survived by her husband, D.G. Watts of the home; one daughter, Anita D. Love of Shelby; three grandchildren, Lisa Phipps of Cherryville and Daren Haynes and Joshua Haynes, both of Shelby; and six great-grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Molly, Matthew, Caleb and Ben.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Belmont with the Revs. Chris Little and Johnny Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont.
The family received friends today from 11 until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will receive friends other times at the residence, 706 N. Morgan St., Shelby.

Thomas Phillips
MOORESBORO - Mr. Thomas Wilk Phillips, 83, of 159 Cordell Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Mission-St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at State Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Bryan and Fae Walker officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Johnnie Perkins
SHELBY - Mr. Johnnie Wesley Perkins, 66, of 2015 Melrose Drive died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Aug. 9, 1933, the son of the late Eli and Patty Jones Perkins. He was retired from Martin Marietta Aggregates.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Calvin Perkins; one brother, Jim Perkins; and two sisters, Agnes Kimble and Shirley Tuft.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Mae Parks Perkins; two daughters, Kathy Perkins of the home and Emma P. Brooks of Shelby; three sons, Jasper Perkins, Johnny Perkins Jr. and A.V. Perkins, all of Shelby; two sisters, Adell Camp and Sarah Davis, both of Shelby; one brother, Joe Perkins of Charlotte; two friends, Mary E. Roberts and Henry Mitchell, both of Shelby; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel with the Rev. Thurston Jackson of Community Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.

Arnold "Arnie" Messinger
ELLENBORO - Mr. Arnold "Arnie" Messinger, 57, of 156 Church St., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Harrelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Brittain
LAWNDALE - Mr. Charles Wayne Brittain, 50, of 907 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Incore Hospital in Greensboro.

SHELBY - Mr. Fred Monroe Hamrick, 78, of 401 N. Morgan St., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at White Oak Manor.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Tommy Watkins, 41, of 3601 Rube Spangler Road, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Robin Carroll
MOORESBORO - Mr. Robin Lewis Carroll, 42, of 3321 McKinney Road, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Oct. 1, 1957, the son of Forest L. Carroll of Mooresboro and the late Louise Henson Carroll. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two brothers, Joel Carroll of Mooresboro and Bruce Carroll of Lexington; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Cline Dellinger of Belwood; four nephews, Tony Carroll, Jarrett Carroll, Jamie Carroll and Troy Dellinger; and one niece, Casey Dellinger.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Klinger and the Rev. Buddy Morehead officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Grace Morris
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Grace Watkins Morris died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her residence.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Padgett & King Mortuary with the Rev. David Hughes Hobson officiating. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Charles Nix Sr.
PALATKA, Fla. - Mr. Charles B. Nix Sr., 58, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He was a native of St. Augustine, Fla., residing there until moving to Palatka in 1993. He worked for VAW Aluminum. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in St. Augustine.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hardin Nix of Palatka; one daughter, Brenda Vargas of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Dawn Wright of Shelby; two sons, Charles B. Nix Jr. and Eric Nix, both of St. Augustine; one stepson, Mitchell Graham of Palatka; three sisters, Lillian Hardee and Bessie Johnson, both of St. Augustine, and Shirley Register of Lake City, Fla.; five brothers, Roy Nicks, Otis Nicks, Howard Nix, Gary Nix and Richard Nix, all of St. Augustine; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Conrad officiating.
Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Mellon
SHELBY - Mr. Charles Ray Mellon, 78, of 117 Wolf Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Howard Toms
FOREST CITY - Mr. Howard Teal Toms, 73, of 274 Godfrey Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Padgett & King Mortuary with the Rev. J.C. Riddle officiating. Burial will follow at Tanners Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.
