Pierce, John Raleigh "Jay"
CLEMMONS - John "Jay" Raleigh Pierce, 84, died Sunday, July 11, 2004. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Hope United Methodist Church. Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of the arrangements.

Richardson Sr., Joseph
Joseph Richardson Sr. departed this life unexpectedly Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Survivors include a sister, Ms. Martha Burgess, of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Dairl) Scott of Pfafftown and Mrs. Cheryl (Terry) Warren of Winston-Salem; two sons, Joseph Richardson Jr. and Llhan Richardson, both of the city; and a host of relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Rhema Deliverance Ministries with the Rev. Dairl Scott Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will be at the home of the daughter, Cheryl Warren, 2245 Riley Forest Drive. (Beasley's)

Rothrock, Violet Arlene Poindexter
LEWISVILLE - Mrs. Violet Arlene Poindexter Rothrock, 80, of Lewisville died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at her residence. She was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Forsyth County to Will Sampson Poindexter and Mary Magdeline Stilley Poindexter. Mrs. Rothrock was a graduate of Clemmons High School. In her earlier years, she worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Most of her lifetime was spent being a homemaker and raising her children and helping to raise her grandchildren. She was a member of Boyers Chapel Church of Christ. Mrs. Rothrock was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend and had many wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by Carl Franklin Rothrock, whom she marriage Nov. 18, 1943. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Eugene Rothrock; three sisters, Mamie Poindexter Sales, Edith Poindexter Walker and Shirley Poindexter Watkins; and a brother, William "Bill" Poindexter Jr. Surviving are two sons, Roscoe T. Rothrock and Rendall K. Rothrock; a daughter, Ann Rothrock Hester Weisner; a stepdaughter, Carol Lewis; a brother, Bobby Lee Poindexter; three sisters, Ethel Poindexter Brewer, Evelyn Poindexter Boles and Betty Poindexter Miller; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and an aunt. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. Don Sloan and Mr. James A. Percival officiating. Burial will follow in Boyers Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, July 12, at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice for all the wonderful care extended to their mother these past few months, and also to Salem Chest Specialists. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Boyers Chapel Church of Christ or Ketners Church of Christ.

Strickland, Larry Boyd "Opie"
Mr. Larry Boyd "Opie" Strickland, 48, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1955, in Forsyth County to Boyd and Elease Dudney Strickland. His father preceded him in death. Surviving are his mother, Elease Strickland Holder of Winston-Salem; a brother, Dewey Leon Strickland and wife, Rosa of Walnut Cove; three sisters, Pat Hayes and husband, Charlie of Fayetteville, Ann Flowers and husband, John of Kernersville and Vicky Harp of Winston-Salem; two nieces; and two nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, July 12, at the funeral home.

Vanhoy, Elizabeth Trent
OAK RIDGE - Elizabeth Trent Vanhoy, 81, of Oak Ridge died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Bradford Village West in Kernersville. Mrs. Vanhoy was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Kernersville, the daughter Allie Kirkman Trent and Thomas Woodson Trent. Mrs. Vanhoy was a retired professional secretary and the past president of the N.C. Chapter of Certified Secretaries. She was a member of the Greensboro Historical Museum, Forest Oaks Country Club and several other organizations in Guilford County. She was a private pilot for many years and enjoyed attending air shows. She was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Kernersville. Mrs. Vanhoy was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Herbert Vanhoy. Two brothers, James Trent and Wallace Trent, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Vanhoy is survived by a sister, Clara Jean (LeRoy) Stewart of Kernersville; and several nieces and nephews, Donna (Darryll) Tipton, Diane Rothrock, Tjuana Diem, Tazma (Sandy) Trent, Thomas (Linda) Trent, James (Sue) Trent and Tavan (Carolyn) Trent. Also surviving are three great-nephews, Jason (Brandie) Rothrock, Joshua (Stephanie) Tipton and Tarik Trent; three great-nieces, Mary Trent, Rachel Trent and Tara Trent; and a great-great-niece, Crystal Rothrock. Also surviving is a dear Brazilian exchange student, Anna Maria Fonfeca Campos and her family; and a devoted friend, Clarence Siler. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel, with burial to follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory of Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today, July 12, at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Donna and Darryll Tipton, 820 Brett Court, Kernersville. The family of Elizabeth T. Vanhoy wishes to thank the great staff of Bradford Village West for their wonderful care of our beloved Aunt Libby. Wilkins, Martha Armfield
MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Martha Armfield Wilkins, 47, of 233 Pratt Road, Mount Airy, wife of Mr. William W. "Bill" Wilkins Jr., died Saturday morning, July 10, 2004, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born July 18, 1956, in Surry County to the late Joe and Mildred Alderman Armfield. Mrs. Wilkins was an employee of Northern Hospital of Surry County and a member of Grace Fellowship Church. Surviving are her husband, William W. "Bill" Wilkins Jr. of the home; a son, Joseph Mason Wilkins of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Emma A. and Rocky Atkins of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Mary Anna Armfield of Salisbury. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy with the Rev. John Deir officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, July 12, at the funeral home where her body will remain until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Wood, Pamela Jean Tedder
Pamela Jean Tedder Wood, 54, of Winston-Salem died unexpectedly Saturday, July 10, 2004, at her home. She was born Sept. 25, 1949, in Forsyth County to James Everett and Betty Cox Tedder. She attended Gospel Light Baptist Church and worked with BellSouth for nearly 20 years. She was a huge race fan and attended Bowman Gray Raceway regularly. In addition, she was a scorer at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin and a member of the Southern Modified Auto Racing Team where she was president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her parents of Walnut Cove; two sons, Jeff Dinkins and wife, Beverly, of Lewisville and Robert "Bobby" Everhart II and his fiance, Victoria; two daughters, Angie Johnson and husband, Blake, of East Bend and Traci Fulp and husband, Chuck, of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Macey Camryn Fulp; a sister, Robin Pettitt and husband, Robert, of King; a brother, Mark Anthony Tedder of Advance; a niece, Tammy Smith of Walkertown; two nephews, Wayne Pettitt and wife, Melanie, of Liberty and James Tedder of Advance; and a grand-niece, Hailey Smith, of Walkertown. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, July 12, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Mr. Marcus Armstrong, 36, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Arrangements are incomplete at Beasley's Funeral and Cremation Service.

Bullins, Daniel Mabe
WALNUT COVE - Mr. Daniel Mabe Bullins, 83, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at his home. He was born in Stokes County to Joe Sanders and Hester Mabe Bullins. He was a member of Fulp Moravian Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired truck driver for Vulcan Materials Co. with 34 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Teresa Shore; a sister, Stella Brim; and a brother, Paul Bullins. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Pauline Fagg Bullins of the home; three children, Eileene (Donald) Brown of Walnut Cove, Marie McCombs of Rural Hall and J.D. (Phyllis) Bullins of Advance; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six sisters and two brothers, Annie Brim of Madison, Nina Priddy of Danbury and Ruby Briggs, Katherine (Harvey) Bennett, Lorene (Preston) Mabe, Shirley (James) Bibey, Billy Joe (Carolyn) Bullins and Walter Lee (Faye) Bullins, all of Walnut Cove. A 4 p.m. graveside service will be held Sunday, July 11, at Fulp Moravian Graveyard with Chaplain Fred Moretz and the Rev. Wayne Byerly officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 10, at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home of Eileene and Donald Brown. Memorials may be made to Fulp Moravian Church, 1556 Hwy 311 S., Walnut Cove, NC 27052 or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to sincerely thank the Hospice staff and Chaplain Moretz for their loving kindness to them during Mr. Bullins' illness.
