Canaday, 1973 graduate and alumni member of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, avid Tarheel fan, worked as an accountant, enjoyed dancing, scuba diving, traveling, music, reading and aerobics.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Henry Clay and Elizabeth Alexander Kiser, graduate of Tryon High School, Lenoir-Rhyne College, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, received Master of Arts on Educational Administration degree, served as principal at White Oak School, Carteret County, Mooresboro and Polkville schools, Cleveland County, Grantham School, Wayne County, Balls Creek School, Catawba County, taught in Gaston and Mecklenburg counties and at N.C. State University, Raleigh, retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System after 40 years in the educational field, lived in Derita Community from 1956 to 1994, at the Methodist Home in Charlotte since 1995, held office in local chapters of North Carolina Education Association, former member of Kiwanis Club, former Mason, charter member of Derita Lions Club, longtime member of Cole Memorial United Methodist Church, active in church and community, Sunday school teacher.
