George C. Cline Sr.
MATTHEWS — George Clifton Cline Sr., 75, died Aug. 1, 2000, at home.
He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Brather Elmore and Lula Watts Cline, member of Christ United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, taught Glenn Lackey Sunday school class for nine years, had nursing home ministry at Huntersville Oaks for 20 years, helped found Mulberry Baptist Church, former member and deacon of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, former member of Westberry Optimist Club, member and chaplain of Paw Creek American Legion Post 353, attended Paw Creek High School, enlisted in the Navy at age 17, served four years followed by five years in the Naval Reserve, served on the USS Strong (DD-467), the USS Stephen Potter (DD-538) and remained active in reunions until 1999, earned GED from CPCC in 1981 at age 55, 1983 graduate of Fruitland Bible Institute, ordained minister, ministered to sick and families, owner-operator of Cline’s Esso Service Station from 1952-1959, owner-founder of George Cline’s Tire Service from 1959-1977.
