Lucinda Cooke
High Point - Mrs. Lucinda Meredith Cooke, 79, of 325 Phillips Ave, died Nov. 6 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Ruth Culler
Lexington - Mrs. Ruth Edith Burleson Culler, 67, a resident of 6480 E. U.S. Hwy 64, died Nov. 5, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
She was born in Thomasville, April 13, 1932, a daughter of John Ray Burleson and Gladys Russell Burleson, she was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She was a former employee of Guilford Hosiery Mill in High Point and had retired from Kayby Mills in Thomasv P> Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. David Robinson. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be a the funeral home Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. and other times at the residence.

James Grubb
Archdale - Mr. James Farris Grubb, 87, a resident of Bowen Drive died Nov. 5, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital. Mr Grubb was born Dec. 27, 1911 in Guilford County to Jake and Belle Grubb. He had been an Archdale resident most of his life and was a retired building contractor.
In March of 1936, he was married to the former Jessie Jones who died in 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry Grubb Gurley and her husband, Reverend Donald Gurley; two grandchildren, Dirk Gurley of Archdale and Kurt Gurley of Chapel Hill; four great-grandchildren,Erica Gurley, Krystle Gurley, Ashton Gurley and Kurtlyn Gurley; a half-sister, Mrs. Vonnie Stroud and her husband Laymon of High Point and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by Rev. Donald Gurley and Mr. Dick Gurley. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Donald and Jerry Gurley, 408, Forestwood Drive in Archdale.

Samuel Napier
New London - Mr. Samuel Perry Napier Sr., 77, of 350 Lakeview Rd, and a former High Point resident, died Nov. 6 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr Napier was born April 6, 1922, in Chatham County to Nathan and Mafa Simmons Napier. Mr. Napier was a retired Regional Sales Manager for Power Line Staples Company in Jamestown and also owned and operated Sam-Sons Furniture Company in High Point. He was a United States Marine veteran of World War II and served in the Guadalcanal campaign. Mr Napier was a life member of the High Point Elks Lodge, a Mason and a member of the High Point V.F.W. Post 5574. Mr Napier was a member of Eldorado Baptist Church in Montgomery County and had been a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in High Point.
On July 6, 1945, Mr Napier was married to the former Jacqueline Ross who survives of the home. Also surviving are three sons, Sam Napier Jr. of Tiltionville, Ohio, Scott R. Napier of the home and Stephen Napier of High Point; two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Taylor and her husband, Cecil of Marietta,Ga. and Ms. Suzanne O’Daniel of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Tom Petty and Rev. William Culbertson. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Opal Spoon
High Point - Mrs. Opal Spoon, 80, of the Walburg Community, died Friday Nov. 5, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. Harold C. Davis Funeral Home is serving the family.

Henry Tucker
High Point
Mr. Henry Lee Tucker Jr., of 1409 West Ave., died Nov. 4, 1999 at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Rhoda Tucker of the home; one sister , Juanta Carter; one brother, Richard Tucker of Baltimore; two nieces, Harriett Reed and Prelle Tucker both of High Point who were able to be his caretaker when he was in need; and a host of nieces nephews, relatives and other friends.
Hoovers Funeral Home is in in charge of arrangements for the family.

Eddie Alford
Denton - Eddie D. Alford, 52, of Denton, died Nov. 6, 1999, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

Howard Boles
New Bern
Howard Grady Boles, 74, a former resident of High Point, died Nov. 5, 1999 at Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern following 11/2years of declining health.
He was born in Randolph County March 2, 1925, a son of Howard Joseph and Bealie Tuttle Boles. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Startown First Baptist Church and a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was employed by Broyhill Furniture Industries for 40 years, loved fishing and enjoyed collecting antiques.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Mae Smith Boles, and a brother, Arnold Lee Boles.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Robert Grady Boles and his wife, Doyla Jackie Boles, of New Bern, and David Howard Boles of High Point; his mother, Bealie Boles Hicks of High Point; three sisters, Josephine Everhart and her husband, Paul, of High Point, Kathy Beck of Pomano Beach, Fla., and Mary Montgomery and her husband, Farris, of High Point; two grandchildren, Venus Woolston and her husband, Douglas, and Spring Hill and her husband, Travis, all of New Bern; and one great-grandchild, Amber Dawn Woolston of New Bern.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff Burton. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Greensboro. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-9 tonight and other times at the home of Mary and Farris Montgomery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

David Cochran
High Point - David Leach Cochran, 51, of 2401 Francis St. died Nov. 7, 1999.
He was born Apr. 5, 1948, in High Point, a son of George L. and Julia Leach Cochran, and had lived here all his life.
He was employed with Swaim Metals and was a former member of the High Point Jaycees. He was a member of Archdale Baptist Church.
Surviving are his mother, of the home, and one brother, G. Michael Cochran, of Winston-Salem. He was preceded in death by his father, George L. Cochran.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Chapel in Archdale by the Revs. Bob Burns and J.C. Alley. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 Tuesday night at Sechrest Funeral Home.

Jerry Griffey
Sophia - Jerry Roger Griffey, 54, of 4233 Pheasant Ridge Road died Nov. 7, 1999 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Joseph Johnston
Jamestown - Joseph William Johnston, 74, of 3158 Dillon Road, Jamestown died Nov. 6, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Guilford County, a son of W.T. and Matilda Shew Johnston. He lived in the Jamestown area all his life. He retired from Wilson & Co. as a salesman and later worked as a salesman with Valleydale Packers. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. On Aug. 7, 1948, he married Leatrice Joy Warren, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Betty Jo) Armfield of Ramseur; a son, William Mitchell Johnston of Concord; a sister, Mrs. Nell Bryant of Thomasville; four brothers, Richard C. Johnston of High Point, Herman Johnston of Thomasville, John Johnston of Trinity, and Tom Johnston of Cedarburg, Wis.; six grandchildren, Lee, John and Joseph Armfield, and Ashley, Katie and Margaret Johnston.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jamestown United Methodist Church by C.M. Worthy and the Rev. Richard Howle. Entombment will be in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Avenue until placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family request no flowers and memorials may be directed to Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Jamestown, N.C. 27282 or to the Jamestown Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1345, Jamestown, N.C. 27282.

Daisy Potter
High Point - Mrs. Daisy Hill Potter, a resident of 601 Ellwood Drive, died Nov. 7, 1999, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Haizlip Funeral Home.

Delmar Riddick
Archdale - Delmar Smith Riddick, 88, of 7146 Turnpike Road died Nov. 7, 1999, at his residence after a period of declining health.
He was born Oct. 6, 1911, in Wilkes County, a son of Ernest Zeb and Era Rebecca Matthews Riddick. A graduate of Trinity High School, he served four years as a U.S. Postal carrier. For most of his life he owned and operated Riddick Plant Growers. During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Norfolk, Va., and Birmingham, Ala. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the Jess Watson Sunday School class. On Dec. 12, 1937, he was married to Irene Douglas Sparks, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas S. Riddick and his wife, Marcia, of 7125 Turnpike Road, and Gwyn F. Riddick and his wife, Susan, of 7143 Turnpike Road; one brother, Ernest Penn Riddick of Turnpike Road; four grandchildren, Eric Riddick, Adrea Riddick, Erin Riddick and Alana Riddick.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Green Street Church Chapel by the Rev. C.W. Moss. Entombment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home in Archdale until placed in the church chapel at 10:30 Tuesday morning. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund at Green Street Baptist Church, 303 Rotary Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Opal Spoon
Wallburg - Mrs. Opal Elizabeth Hayworth Spoon, 80, a resident of the Wallburg Community, died Nov. 5, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Opal was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Davidson County, the daughter of Burch and Delphia Payne Hayworth. She was a 1938 graduate of Wallburg High School and was formerly employed as a sewer as West Wood Furniture Industries. She attended High Point Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Spoon Sr., and two brothers, Walter Lee and Franklin Payne Hayworth.
Surviving are one daughter, Sonja Stanley and her husband, William, of High Point; three sons, Phillip Ray Spoon and his wife, Jackie, John Wesley Spoon Jr. and his wife, Arenda, and David Wayne Spoon, all of Wallburg; three sisters, Mildred Davis, Roberta Durham, and Mary A. Hayworth, all of Wallburg; one brother, Daniel G. Hayworth of Wallburg; seven grandchildren, James, John, Lori and Tammy Spoon, Renee Deaton, Ashley Beason and Amy Vitola; and one great-granddaughter, Amber Renee Deaton.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Hopper and Bette Steinkamp. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of William and Sonja Stanley, 2148 N. Old Greensboro Road.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Drs. Decoy, Plittman, Stoval and Zakon and the ICU and CCU nurses at High Point Regional Hospital.

High Point - Mrs. Gretchen Davis Stroud, 88, a resident of The Wesleyan Arms died there Nov. 7, 1999.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
