VASHTI HICKS
DUNN - Vashti L. Hicks, 89, of 201 N. Ellis Ave., died Wednesday (2/4/04) at Parrish Nursing Center, Dunn.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church, Bunnlevel, by Pastor Lee Annie McNeill and Dr. L. Edward Simpson. Burial will follow in the Hicks family cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Dean and husband Leamon of Sanford, Betty Simpson of Linden, Dorothy Waller and husband James of Roosevelt, N.Y., and Lavern Small and husband Horace of Fayetteville; a sister, Lula W. Swann of Sanford; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Betty Simpson, 3740 Walker Road, Linden. The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. today at the church.
Arrangements are by Dafford Funeral Home, Dunn.

EZRA DARROCH
LILLINGTON - Ezra Darroch, 82, of Lillington, died Thursday (2/5/04) at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home, Fayetteville.
Born Nov. 4, 1921, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary Smith Darroch. He served in World War II and received the Purple Heart for Valor. He worked as a mechanic for Lillington Tractor Co. for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bishop Darroch, and a sister, Ruth Darroch Matthews.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington, by the Rev. Roy McLamb.
Surviving are a daughter, Gaynelle Darroch Turlington and husband Danny of Lillington; sons, Jimmy Darroch and Mike Darroch, both of Lillington; three grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
Memorial gifts may be made to Overhills Community Church, 948 Overhills Road, Linden, N.C. 28356.

WAYMAN ALSTON
CLINTON - The Rev. Wayman Alston, 73, of 710 W. Main St., died Wednesday (2/4/04) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Warsaw, by the Rev. Isaac Johnson.
Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery, Turkey, N.C.
Surviving are his wife, Cleo Alston, a daughter, a sister, a brother, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Brock Memorial and Worley Funeral Home.

PARKER DOSS
SANFORD - Parker Lee Doss, infant son of Erica Alston and Mitchell Doss, died Friday (2/6/04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Arrangements are pending at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

DANA BARBER
CARTHAGE - Dana Koshak Barber, 59, of Carthage, died Sunday (4/4/04).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Barber, and mother, Betty Houser Koshak.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m Saturday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home by the Rev. Glen Stancik.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy Barber and wife Kim of Cameron and Keith E. Barber and wife Deanna of Carthage; her father, Edward Koshak of Cameron; a sister, Deborah Hathaway and husband Jim of Fox Fire Village; brothers, Darr Koshak and wife Carole, Dac Koshak and wife Vicky and Dirk Koshak and wife Carla, all of Cameron; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home and other times at the home, 5687 Glendon Road.

LESSIE MCKOY
SANFORD - Lessie McKoy, 82, of 1275 Osgood Road, died Tuesday (4/6/04) at home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Greater Zion Holy Temple with Bishop Zollie Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 45 minutes before the service.
Surviving are her husband, Johnny McKoy, at home; a daughter, Phyllis Adderton and husband Dickie of Sanford; sons, Johnny McKoy Jr. of Detroit, Antonio McKoy and wife Patricia of Virginia Beach, Va., Manley McKoy and wife Renee of Rocky Mount, Frederick McKoy of Atlanta, and Don McKoy, at home; sisters, Tiny Finner and Nottie Womack; brothers, Carl Wicker and wife Marilyn and Napleon Wicker and wife Erma of Virginia; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home.

MARGARET SMITH
PITTSBORO - Margaret Smith, 77, of 7688 U.S. 64 West, died Tuesday (4/6/04) at FirstHealth Moore Regional at Pinehurst.
Funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Knotts Funeral Home, Siler City. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Surviving are her husband, Charlie Smith Jr., at home; children, Theodore Smith, Marie Headen and husband Mike, Shirley Sutton and husband Duncan and Jimmy Smith and wife Carolyn, all of Siler City, Ada Mae Dark and Virginia Nettles and husband Recado, all of Fayetteville, Henry Smith of Raleigh, Brenda Snipes and husband Monroe and Thomas Smith and wife Maria, all at home; sisters, Evelyn McSwain, Mary Lou McSwain and Avelee Watson, all of Siler City; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

DARL WILBANKS
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Darl Lee Wilbanks, 34, of 3106 N. 51 St. Terrace, died Saturday (3/27/04).
Born in Janesville, Wis., he lived most of his life in Sanford, N.C. He was employed with EMS Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
He was the son of the late Daniel A. Wilbanks Sr.
Among survivors is his mother, Lee Loma Schroeder Wilbanks of Sanford, and a sister, Sissy Womack of Moncure, N.C.
Funeral services were held March 31 in Toccoa, Ga. Burial was in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Ken Black, Donnie Wright II, Don Fuller and Billy Ray Womack Jr.

MYRTLE HENDERSON
BEAR CREEK - Myrtle Marie Henderson, 92, died July 29 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Bear Creek. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, June Robbins and husband Norman and Debbie Coleman and husband Raymond, all of Philadelphia; sons, James Henderson and wife Alberta of Morris Plains, N.J., and J.C. Henderson and wife Ramona and Ronnie Henderson and wife Linda, all of Bear Creek; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and adopted family.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home in Siler City.

HATTIE McDONALD
DUNN - Funeral for Hattie A. McDonald, 89, who died Monday (8/2/04), was held Wednesday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Sherrill Pope and the Rev. Cary Watkins. Burial followed in Prospect Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.
Pianist was Gladys Woodall. Vocalists were Robin Gregory and Ricky West.
Pallbearers were Danny Gregory Jr., Bruce Harrellson, Charles Barrow, Ronnie Harrellson, Ronnie Lacky and Jonathan Barron.

MARY GARCIA
HOPE MILLS - Funeral for Mary Anne Reese Garcia of Hope Mills, formerly of Sanford, was held Monday at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville by the Rev. Sandy Saunders. Burial followed in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Pallbearers were Mike O'Quinn II, Wayne O'Quinn, Walter Reese Jr., Michael Robertson, Timmy Smales and Michael Barraza.
Arrangements were by Hamilton and Porter Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

ALEC MARTIN
KERNERSVILLE - Nathan Alexander "Alec" Martin, 35, of Smithwick Road, passed away Tuesday (8/3/04).
He was born Sept. 12, 1968, in Randolph County, a son of James H. and Genevieve Allen Martin of Sanford. He was a graduate of UNCG and was employed with Lin Pac, Inc. of Greensboro as a scheduling manager. His respect of the outdoors and his love of sports and music will long be remembered. He was a devoted father and a loving husband.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church of Kernersville by the Rev. Pete Kunkle.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Julia Rowlett Martin of the home; two children, Daniel and Lindsay Martin of the home; and a sister, Marci Krehnbrink of Mooresville.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to The Martin Children's Family Fund Account, c/o Bank of America Northwood, 201 East Parris Ave., High Point, N.C., 27262.
Arrangements are by Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home.
