Mary Lou Ward Hart
Mary Lou Ward Hart, 71, of Creswell Rd, Stanley, died Jan. 15, 2005 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born Jan 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hugh and Monnie Queen Ward.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Hart; one son, Kenny Hart and wife, Jan of Stanley; three sisters; eight brothers; and one grandchild.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville was in charge of arrangements.

Ricky Neal Bridges
Ricky Neal Bridges, 49, of Denver died January 14 at Lincoln Medical Center.
Born on July 20, 1955 in Lincoln County, he was preceded in death by his father Henry Richard Bridges. Mr. Bridges was retired from Lincoln County EMS after 22 years and a charter member of Pumpkin Center VFD where he held many positions including chief and was still active after 30 years of service.
Funeral services were held Jan. 16 at Amity Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Little and Rev. Matt Gunter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Jenny” Gilbert Bridges of the home; two sons, Steven N. Bridges of Denver and Andrew P. Bridges of Cornelius; his mother, Pauline Bridges; one brother, Mark Bridges; and one sister, Trudy Clary all of Denver.
Memorials may be made to Pumpkin Center VFD, Truck Fund, 2911 Lee Lawing Rd., Lincolnton, NC 28092. Warlick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harry M. Russell
Harry Mitchell Russell, 61, of Mooresville died Feb. 23, 2005 at Baptist Hospital. He was born April 15, 1943 in Mecklenburg County to the late Howard Grier and Margaret Elizabeth Teeter Russell. He was a veteran of the US Army and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was employed as a salesman with Carolina Brick and a member of "SPIKE" Home Builders Association.
Funeral services were held at Fairview UMC in Mt. Mourne where he was a member. Rev. Bob Mick officiated. Interment followed in Sharon Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wright Russell, son Joseph Harrison Russell and wife Jessica of Terrell; daughter Regina Hovis and husband Marty of Denver; sister Elaine Russell Connell of Mint Hill and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Fairview UMC Building Fund, PO Box 27, Mt. Mourne, NC 28123. Raymer Funeral Home of Huntersville was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Linton Johnson
The Rev. Linton Edward Johnson Sr., 86, of 4473 Highway 73, died April 4 at VA Hospital, Salisbury. He was a native of Lincoln County.
Funeral services were held April 9, at Tuckers Grove United Methodist Church, Iron Station.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include six daughters, Joyce Brown, Lena Johnson, and Gloria Johnson of Iron Station, Brenda Hamilton of Charlotte, Dorcas Ramseur of Vale and Cynthia Simpson of Denver; six sons, Floyd Roseboro and Donald Johnson of Gastonia, Calvin Johnson of New York, Linton Johnson Jr. of Lincolnton, Aldridge Johnson of Cherryville, and Walden Johnson of Mount Holly; one sister, Austria Smith of Washington, DC; two brothers, Rev. Billy Johnson of Canton, OH and Rev. Dowd Johnson Jr. of Warrenton; 33 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Costner Funeral Home in Gastonia was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin ‘Ken’ Brotherton
Marvin Kenneth "Ken" Brotherton, a Denver native who profoundly felt his family roots and became a local historian and author to help others also appreciate the past, died April 12, 2005.
He was 81.
A resident of Davidson, he had been a resident of The Oaks Nursing Home in Huntersville for several years.
Funeral services were conducted April 15 in the Chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. and Dr. Reid Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Mimosa Cemetery.
A graduate of Rock Springs High School and Davidson College, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran where he learned to fly a plane and studied electronics and radar systems.
He was retired from the engineering department of Southern Bell.
For 28 years he served as a volunteer with the Davidson Fire Department and also served as a member of the Davidson Planning and Zoning Board and was active in the Republican party.
He founded Brotherton Realty Co. in 1970 and was the author of two books and more than 200 essays about local history.
Diagnosed with cancer in 1987, he did not let the disease overcome him and he provided a lesson in human courage. He continued to rake leaves, split wood and write history as long as he could. Using his EMT training, he would unhook himself from IV tubes that fed him, go to town to do research and mingle with friends, then go back home and re-attach the tubes.
"I'd rather wear out than rust out," he joked.
He is survived by wife, Vernie Curly Brotherton of Davidson; daughter, Lynne B. Hybarger; granddaughter, Lori Hybarger of Davidson; grandson, Jeff Hybarger and his wife, Paige Wilson Hybarger; and great granddaughters, Heather & Harleigh Hybarger of Denver.
Also his great granddaughter, Amber Puckett of Charlotte; daughter, Kathy B. Arnold, her husband, Marty Arnold, and their children, Josh Arnold, Whitney Arnold Davis and Brooke Arnold of Cornelius; son, Kenneth 'Kenny' W. Brotherton of Cornelius; daughter, Lisa Brotherton and her spouse, Dennis Hopkins, of Rock Hill, S.C.; brothers, Harry O. Brotherton and Gilbert Brotherton of Mooresville; Curtis G. Brotherton of Denver and Vernon C. Brotherton of Conover; and sister, Opal B. Burgin of Alexis. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin H. Brotherton and Hattie Mae Howard Brotherton; by his sisters, Vaughn Dean Riddle & Peggy J. Brotherton; and by his brother, Troy H. Brotherton.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, N.C 28036.

Paul Hillen
Paul Hillen, 68, of Denver and formerly of Rochester, NY passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services were held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Jan. 12.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Elaine D'Imperio Hillen; one son, Scott Hillen and wife Fran of East Haddam, CT; two daughters Susan Hillen-Larsen and husband Alan of Iron Station and Sandy Hillen-Dixon of Concord; two brothers Francis "Peter" Hillen and Phillip Hillen; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215. Raymer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Lee Yost
Lawrence "Larry" Lee Yost, age 72 of Denver, died Jan. 7, 2006 at Stanley Total Living Center. A memorial service was held Jan. 14 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Heermans officiating.
Born Feb. 12, 1933 in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herbert F. Yost and Margaret L. Yost. He grew up in Warwood, Wheeling W.Va., graduated from Linsly Military Academy in 1951 and Rensslaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY in 1955.
He served in the U.S. Navy as Boiler Division Officer from 1955 to 1958. He was a member of the Masonic Winfield Kansas Lodge # 110, Queen City Order of the Eastern Star # 138. He was recognized for 15 years service with the Accredited Standards Committee for safe operation and performance of industrial and commercial gas equipment. A member of ASME and NSPE, he was the author of several technical articles published by leading trade journals.
Survivors are his wife, Patty; two daughters, Cindy and husband Robbie Colvin of Orange, Va. and Carla Allman of Bridgewater, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, designated for the Christian Education ministries of Children and Youth, 378 Pilot Knob Road N, Denver, N.C. 28037. Arrangements were by Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville, N.C.
