Shirley Newton Dalton

Died: 04/21/2016 and resided in Moriah, NC

Shirley Newton Dalton, 88, of Moriah, died Thursday, April 21, 2016. Born in Person County, Mrs. Dalton was the daughter of the late Henry Allen and Annie Odell Lunsford Newton and wife of the late Vernel Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Ray Dalton and five siblings. She operated a daycare at her home, where she cared for generations of children. She was the oldest member of Bethany Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School secretary. She was well known for her flower and vegetable gardens.

Mrs. Dalton is survived by her son, Ken Dalton and wife Becky, of Timberlake; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Dalton, of Rougemont; six grandchildren, Tasha Lea Parker and husband Frankie, Shawn Craig Dalton and wife Heather, Angie Dalton and wife Brittany, Joey Farlow, Jenny Norris and husband Charles and Juli Farlow; twelve great-grandchildren and many others who called her Grandma Dalton.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Hager. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM, Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Ken and Becky Dalton, 74 Cole Circle, Timberlake.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Bethany Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, "Brian Hager Fund", 245 Bethany Church Rd., Rougemont, NC 27572.

Callie Mae Clayton Jordan
Born: 05/01/1927 Person County, NC
Died: 04/14/2016 and resided in Hurdle Mills, NC

Callie Mae Clayton Jordan, 88, of Hurdle Mills, died Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born in Person County, Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of the late Charlie Henry and Ruthie Wilson Clayton and wife of the late Melvin Bradsher Breeze and Earl Franklin Jordan. She was also preceded in death by two step-sons, Ronnie Jordan and Al Jordan; one great-grandson; three brothers, Carr Clayton, Charlie Gentry Clayton, and Chandler Clayton and one sister, Clarice Wolfe. Mrs. Jordan retired from Liggett Myers after 35 years and was a member of Berry's Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the adult choir.

Mrs. Jordan is survived by her children, Lynn Brown and husband Earl of Rougemont and Charles Jordan and wife Jane of Afton, TN; two sisters, Corine Parrish, of Hillsborough and Carrie Lee Brown, of Rougemont; four grandchildren, Cindy Leonard, Stephanie Brown, Brittany Brown Lingner and husband Joshua and Mandy Jordan; four step grandchildren nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Berry's Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Willingham and the Rev. Eric Rimmer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-3 PM, Saturday at Berry's Grove Baptist Church prior to the service and at other times at the home of Lynn Brown, 108 Pass Farm Ln., Rougemont.

Pallbearers will be nephews Ronnie Wolfe, Mark Wolfe, Mick Clayton, Bruce Clayton, Doug Clayton, Frankie Clayton, Danny Brown, and Dale Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berry's Grove Baptist Church, Youth Haiti Mission Trip, 9628 Berry Rd., Timberlake, NC, 27583 or Youth for Christ, 80 Danwin Ln., Roxboro, NC, 27573.

Gracie Mae Ridgeway Lyles
Born: 05/09/1924 Pittsylvania County, VA
Died: 04/14/2016

Gracie Mae Ridgeway Lyles, 91, died Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born in Pittsylvania County, VA, Mrs. Lyles was the daughter of the late Ed and Dolly Walker Ridgeway and wife of the late Douglas James Lyles. She was also preceded in death by two sons, David Stone and Dennis Stone and two grandchildren, Dennis Stone and Wanda Day. Mrs. Lyles was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lyles is survived by her children, Wayne Stone, of Durham, Dorothy Day, of Roxboro, Ann S. Tuck, of Burlington, Mary Jane Phelps, Patricia Powell, and Donna Beaver, all of Roxboro; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Fred Lowery. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Danville, VA. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Chapel and at other times at the home of Donna Beaver, 4147 Chub Lake Rd., Roxboro.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Stone, Shane Phelps, Dustin Stone, Johnathan Lyles, Junior Day, and Curtis Hammock. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Stone.

Memorials may be made to Cambridge Hills Assisted Living, 5660 Durham Rd., Roxboro, NC, 27574.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Cambridge Hills Assisted Living for the compassionate care they provided.

Elizabeth Link Bates Buchanan

Died: 04/10/2016 and resided in Person County, NC

Elizabeth Link Bates Buchanan, 63, of Person County, died Sunday, April 10, 2016. Mrs. Buchanan was born in Person County, to the late William Haywood Harris and Margaret Gravitte Harris.

She is survived by her husband, James William Buchanan, Jr., of Atlantic Beach; three children: James Shaun Buchanan, Morgan Shane Buchanan, and Brandon Cody Buchanan, all of Roxboro; two brothers: Robert Harris of WA, and Jimmy Harris of Roxboro; two sisters: Katie Frances Shotwell of Alton, VA, and Montie Ford of Roxboro; three grandchildren: Kayla, Hannah, and Abigail Buchanan.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Avery Dalton. The family will receive friends at the home of her son, James Buchanan (359 Megan Run, Roxboro, NC 27574).

Memorials may be made to Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, NC 27704.

Effret Mooney Clayton
Born: 07/20/1929 Person County, NC
Died: 03/16/2016 and resided in Mecklenburg County, NC

Effret Mooney Clayton, 86, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born in Person County to the late Wright Clayton and Opie Mooney Clayton. Mr. Clayton retired as regional Vice President from Crum and Foster Insurance Company.

Surviving are his wife, Myrtice C. Clayton, of the home; one daughter, Kim Calloway and husband Andy, of Concord; and four grandchildren, Mollie, Casey, Sally, and Luke Calloway.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Brooks and White Chapel by Rev. Gerald Hodges. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Womack, Jay McFarland, Cameron Wrenn, Andy Pecarina, Todd Long, and Jason Long.

Donna Lee Hudson Hastings
Born: 07/21/1954 Norfolk, VA
Died: 04/18/2016 and resided in Person County, NC

Donna Lee Hudson Hastings, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, completed her earthly course on April 18, 2016 and is now in her heavenly home.

She was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1954, to Jane and Alton Hudson, who survive her.

In 1972, Donna married the love of her life, Jack Hastings. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Karen Hastings Clayton (Lennie) and Kelley Hastings Denny (Richard), as they moved from port to port during Jack's career in the Navy.

Donna's pride and joy were her grandbabies. She dearly loved Victoria Clayton, Logan Clayton, Grace Denny, Allie Clayton, Ryan Denny, and Caroline Denny.

In addition to her husband, parents, daughters and grandchildren, Donna is survived by her two loving sisters, Carol Hudson Ormond and Jay Hudson.

Donna was a devout Christian and had an extraordinary, genuine faith in God. She was a member of the Cole Mill Road Church of Christ.

Visitation will be 7:00-8:30 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home in Roxboro and other times at the home (124 Woodberry Drive, Roxboro, NC 27574).

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Cole Mill Road Church of Christ by the Minister Patrick Messer. Interment will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery.
