John Wayne Little, 74, of 2120 Lamar Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Worthville Baptist Church, with pastor Junior Dawkins and pastor Alvin Powell officiating. Burial will in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.

Surviving are wife, Ina Shew Little of the home; daughter, Carolyn L. Owens of Asheboro; sons, Terry Little of Trinity and Gerald Little of Salisbury; stepdaughter, Lisa Turner of Asheboro; sisters, Barbara Cook of High Point and Margaret Moore of Julian; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Little will lie in state at the home at 2120 Lamar Drive, Sunday.

Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

R. Daniel "Dan" Williams
Robert Daniel "Dan" Williams, 48, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Midway United Methodist Church, Reidsville.

He was a Virginia native, a U.S. Army veteran of the Gulf War, and was self-employed as a carpenter.

Surviving are wife, Patty Baxley Williams; daughters, Cher Williams and Holly Williams both of Laurenburg; mother, Carolyn Davis of Murphy; brothers, Keith Williams of Reidsville and Henry Williams of Elsmere, Ky.; sister, Carole Clapp of Greensboro.

Wilkerson Funeral Home, Reidsville, is in charge of arrangements.

B. Fraizer Nance
Benjamin Frazier Nance, 86, of 312 Springwood Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers and the Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of South Carolina, former vice president of Southern Machines Products in Charlotte, a former employee of Union Carbide in Charlotte and Asheboro, a Mason and member of Lodge No. 261, a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner in the Oasis Temple and a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Faye McCombs Nance of Asheboro; daughters, Emily Nance and Joretta N. McNeill, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, and other times at the home.

Oscar "O.D." Shoe
Oscar Deberry "O.D." Shoe Jr., 80, of 1019 Macon St., Asheboro, died Friday, May 5, 2000.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Stanly County, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, retired from Southern Railway, former District Governor of District 31-D of the Lions Club and served on the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy C. Shoe of the home; son, Mark D. Shoe of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Mary Knox of Easley, S.C.; brother, Harry M. Shoe of High Point.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, and other times at the home.

Clyde W. Brooks
LIBERTY - Clyde Wilson Brooks, 87, of the Sunbridge Care Nursing Home in Siler City, former resident of Liberty, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at N.C. Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery, Liberty.

He was a Chatham County native, retired from Liberty Hosiery and the widower of Julia Collier Brooks.

Surviving are granddaughters, Julia Parker and Renee Hannig, both of Liberty; grandson, Jayson Shannon of Liberty; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-8:30 p.m. other times at the home of Julia Parker, 164 S. Gregg St., Liberty.

Billy Pugh
Billy Pugh, 79, of 611 Dublin Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greystone Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Byron Alexander and Paul Micka officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, owner and president of Fashion Fabrics and Quality Blind and Awning, a member of the Furnitureland Antique Car Club, a deacon at his church and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Price Pugh of the home; sons, Alan S. Pugh and Gary M. Pugh, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

SILER CITY - Max Bailey Smith Sr., 70, of 155 SS Edwards Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Sam McGregor Jr. officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, a retired salesman from Chatham Foods, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Cattleman Association.

Surviving are wife, Sara Foust Smith of Siler City; son, Max B. Smith Jr. of Bear Creek; daughter, Jean Harris S. Carroll of Raleigh; sisters, Helen S. Slaughter of High Point, Cornelia S. Buckner of Siler City; brother, Charles B. Smith of Siler City; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Nora B. Tillman
ROBBINS - Nora Brady "Mammy" Tillman, 99, of 2928 River Road, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her home.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Prosperity Friends Church, with grandson the Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating.

She was a native of Parkwood, the widow of Daniel Burnace Tillman, and attended Elise Boarding School and Greensboro Business School.

Surviving are sons, Chester G. Tillman of Houston, Texas, Robert F. Tillman of San Diego, Calif., George B. Tillman of Staley; daughters, Jean T. Carter of the home, Patsy T. Schorr of Bellevue, Wash.; sister, Mary B. Kidd of High Falls; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the home in Robbins.

Wallace M. Luther
EAGLE SPRINGS - Wallace McDonald Luther, 73, of 131 Steele Road, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brad Williams and the Rev. Larry Beaver officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of Long Hill Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of Capel Mills and had been a deputy sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and a policeman with the Troy Police Department.

Surviving are wife, Mable Steele Luther of the home; sons, Don Luther, Jim Luther and Dennis Luther, all of Troy; stepson, Junior Freeman of Eagle Springs; stepdaughters, Sharon Nichols of Eagle Springs, Wanda Fisher Pierce of Aberdeen; brother, Rev. Jack Luther of High Point; sisters, Ruth Holt of Louisburg, Alta Luther and Betty DeBerry, both of Troy; 14 grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

David Crotts
David Crotts, 86, of 4761 Old Lexington Road, Asheboro, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Darrell Summey officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna Grove Community Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Klaussner Furniture Industries and was a member of Smyrna Grove Community Church.

Surviving are wife, Addie Hancock Crotts of the home; daughter, Nellie Marie Cole of the home; son, Carlton Crotts of Asheboro; sisters, Allene Crotts Summey and Flora Crotts Dougan, both of Asheboro; two grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Frazier Nance
Benjamin Frazier Nance, 86, of 312 Springwood Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers and the Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Williston, S.C., graduated from high school in St. Paul, a Duke University alumnus, was formerly employed with Union Carbide in Asheboro and Charlotte and was a retired vice president of Southern Machine Products in Charlotte. He was a Mason, a member of Excelsior Lodge #261 in Charlotte, a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner in the Oasis Temple and a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Faye McCombs Nance of Asheboro; daughters, Emily Nance and Joretta N. McNeill, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Nina Luck Hilliard, 65, of 5577 U.S. 64 East, died Sunday, May 7, 2000 at her home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Falls Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Russell Chrisco officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Sapona Mfg.

Surviving are husband, Curtis Hilliard of the home; son, Curt Hilliard of Greensboro; daughters, Karen Millikan of Denton, Christy Beane of Franklinville; brothers, Lloyd Luck and Harvey Luck, both of Asheboro, Jimmie Luck, Jackie Luck, Larry Luck, Jerry Luck, Darrell Luck and Roger Luck, all of Randleman; sisters, Doris Trogdon of Franklinville, Nancy Hoover and Judy Hulin, both of Randleman; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Horace E. Whitfield
LIBERTY - Horace E. Whitfield, 80, of 145 W. Patterson Ave., died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of First Baptist Church, Revolution Masonic Lodge 571 in Greensboro, a past Patron of the Eastern Star Rose Chapter 178 and was retired from Cone Mills after 42 years in the water department.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy E. Whitfield of the home; son, Morris E. Whitfield of Fayetteville; sister, Blanche W. Bell of Greensboro; brother, Fred E. Whitfield of Raleigh.

The family will be at the home.

GREENSBORO - Louise Robbins Reid, 84, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Moses Cone Extended Care.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Cemetery.

She was the widow of Garland Thomas Reid.

Surviving are daughters, Faye Erwin of Graham, Mary Louise Moss of Greensboro, Julia Elizabeth Miller of Sophia; son, William Edward Reid of Greensboro; brother, Edward Eugene Robbins of McLeansville; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, North Elm Street Chapel, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Mary Louise Moss, 1503 Lucas Ave., Greensboro.

Jewel E. Morris
LIBERTY - Jewel Elizabeth Morris, 72, of 8655 Hinshaw Shop Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hickory Grove U.M.C., where she was a member, with the Rev. Duane Partin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Robert G. Morris of the home; daughters, Barbara Welborn of Seagrove, Marilyn Brown of Siler City; sons, Larry Morris of Siler City, Danny Morris of Liberty; sisters, Helen Kidd of Siler City, Shelly Raper of Cary; brothers, Glenn Glass and Hurley Glass, both of Siler City; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Edith H. Cumby
HIGH POINT - Edith Hobson Cumby, 83, of 1905 Candelar Drive, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, with Dr. James E. Baucom and the Rev. Carroll M. Upton officiating. Entombment will be at Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.

She was a native of Yadkin County, attended schools in the High Point City Schools system and attended Jones Business College. She was the widow of Wade H. Cumby with whom she founded Cumby Family Funeral Service. She was the secretary/treasurer of the service, had received her North Carolina funeral director's license and was the first female funeral director in the High Point area. She was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church, a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Furniture Capital Chapter of the American Business Women's Association where she was the 1960 Woman of the Year and was a charter member of the Golden Arch Charter Chapter of ABWA, where she was the 1982 Woman of the Year.

Surviving are son, James Cumby of High Point; daughter, Sue Brooks of High Point; three grandsons; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407 or to the charity of donor's choice.

Daylin R. Hogshooter
CARTHAGE - Daylin Shanon Rendall Hogshooter, 1, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be held in Austin, Texas, by Hancock Austin Peale & Son Funeral Home.

Surviving are mother, Pamala King of Austin, Texas; sisters, Jackie Bohannon and Samanthia Bohannon, both of Austin, Texas; brother, Jesse Bohannon of Austin, Texas; grandparents, Jack and Bernie King of Austin, Texas, Darrell and Donna Hogshooter of Westville, Okla.; father, Marvin Hogshooter of Westville Okla.; great-grandmothers, Dolly King and Martha Johnson, both of Austin, Texas.

TROY - Wayne Claudell Christian, 79, of 212 Springdale Heights, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Troy, with the Rev. Walter S. Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Freeman Hill Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from J.B. Allen Wholesale Co.

Surviving are daughter, Donna C. McKoy of High Point; sons, Wayne Philip Christian of Troy, Earl Thomas Christian of Greensboro; sisters, Hattie Christian and Sue Parker both of Troy.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at 410 S. Elm St.

M. Dessie Childress
SAXAPAHAW - Marylou Dessie York Childress, 87, of 5641 Church Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Alamance Health Care Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home, Graham, with the Rev. Troy Wilheim officiating. Burial will be at Moores Chapel Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Sellars Manufacturing, a homemaker and the widow of William Harry Childress.

Surviving are daughter, Ruby Hopkins of Asheboro; son, Larry Childress of the home; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Carolyn McMurrin
LOS GATOS, Calif. - Carolyn McMurrin, 57, died Sunday, May 7, 2000.

Funeral service will be noon Wednesday at Camden LDS Chapel, San Jose, Calif.

She was a native of Asheboro, a 1973 graduate of the University of Utah in elementary education, a teacher and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are husband, Daryl McMurrin; sons, Donald Laucirica and Steffan McMurrin; daughters, Cheryl Olson, Aleida Wakefield, Heather Durrans, and Megan McMurrin; mother, Delma Trogdon; sister, Marilyn Suttle; brothers, Paul Trogdon, Samuel Trogdon, Gary Trogdon; nine grandchildren.

Darling-Fischer Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, Los Gatos, Calif., is in charge of the arrangements.
