Dale C. Streyle
Funeral services for Dale C. Streyle, 78, Leeds, N.D., were held on Friday, September 17, 2004 at Leeds Lutheran Church, Leeds. Pastor Richard Budd officiated. Mr. Streyle died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Dale C. Streyle, son of Christ and Barbara Streyle was born on June 18, 1926 in Wishek, N.D. He was raised in Hazelton, N.D. and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1944. He later entered the Air Force after graduation.
On November 14, 1948, he married Emma Heberle at Linton. Dale farmed and owned a business in Hazelton from 1952 to 1963. In 1963 they moved to Enderlin and began a 41 year career in banking. In 1969 the Streyles moved to Leeds, where he purchased the bank and served as Chairman of the Board of the United Community Bank of North Dakota until his death. Dale was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church, a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 101 in Leeds, member of the Leeds Lions Club, past Benson County Director of GNDA, Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Leeds FFA and honorary lifetime member of the Leeds Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Streyle; two sons, DeWayne (Mona) Streyle, Leeds, Keith (Jo) Streyle, Leeds; daughters, Charlene (Paul) Oehlke, Wahpeton, Peggy (Robert) Weise, Nevis, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Johnson, Centerville, Minn.; brother Kenneth (Vivian) Streyle, Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sister-in-law, Arnold and Norma Streyle and Elmer and Lizzie Streyle.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Traci Streyle Issacson, Michelle Weise Lippert, Jamie Streyle Dean, Karri Streyle Huber, Whitney Streyle, Sasha Weise, Shawn Streyle, Christopher Weise, Tim Oehlke, Roscoe Streyle, Nathan Weise, Jay Streyle, Jason Oehlke, Patrick Streyle, Cory Oehlke and Roderick Weise. Honorary bearers will be the employees from the United Community Bank of North Dakota, members of the Leeds American Legion Post #101 and his many friends.
Music was provided by MiChele and Dan Nybo.
Interment at Leeds Lutheran Church Cemetery,
Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds, was in charge of arrangements.

Arlene C.M. Babcock
Arlene C.M. Babcock, age 91, Glendive, Mont., died Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Glendive Medical Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Everett and Pastor Avis Anderson officiating. Interment at Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive was entrusted with arrangements.
Arlene was born on January 4, 1913 at Nome, N.D., the daughter of Genhard Johanne and Josephine Emelia (Nygaard) Thomason. She was educated in Lisbon, N.D., graduating with the class of 1931. Arlene then went on to Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, N.D. in 1932, 1955 and graduated in 1960 with a degree in education. She taught city school in Rudyard, Mont., country school at Ransom County, N.D. and Washington Middle School in Glendive, Mont.
Arlene was married to Charles Babcock on September 1, 1936 in Lisbon, N.D.
Arlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive and the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid. She made banners and bulletin boards for her church for over 20 years. Arlene was a retired member of the National, Montana and Glendive Teacher’s Associations. She loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed needle point, playing piano and organ, Norwegian cooking, cheering for her favorite football team the Minnesota Vikings and was a staunch member of the local Republican Party.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie; son-in-law, Harvey Haugen and brother, Gordon Thomason.
Arlene is survived by one daughter, Charlene Haugen, Glendive, Mont.; one son, Ken Babcock and his wife Carolyn, Fairview, Mont. and one sister-in-law, Florence Thomason, Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Mayvis V. Linderman
Funeral services for Mayvis V. Linderman, 78, Fargo, N.D., were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Charles Wells officiated. Mrs. Linderman died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
Mayvis Victoria Westerlund, daughter of Rose and Peter Westerlund was born on June 25, 1926 near Kathryn, N.D. They later moved into Nome where she graduated from High School. She then moved to Fargo and attended business college there. Upon graduation she worked as a secretary for a local law firm.
In November 1947, she married Allen Linderman. They farmed in the Barlow, N.D. area for the next 30 years. In 1983 Mayvis moved to Fargo after Allen’s death. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Scott) Kernan, Huntington Beach, Calif. and two step-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Interment at Carrington Cemetery, Carrington.

John L. Strauss
Funeral services for John L. Strauss, 91, Harvey, N.D., were held on Friday, October 8, 2004 at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Mr. Strauss died Monday, October 4, 2004 at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon.
John L. Strauss, son of John F. and Mary (Jenny) Strauss was born on September 5, 1913 in Harvey, N.D. He attended the Whitby School near Harvey and graduated from the Harvey High School in 1932. After high school, John began working as a general laborer and went to work for Moser Plumbing and Heating. In 1940, he began working as a janitor at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.
John enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1941 and served with the 164th Infantry Division. He served three years in the Pacific and took part in the Guadalcanal and Northern Solomon's campaigns. He was wounded during a battle and as a result was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. John was honorably discharged June 29, 1945 and returned to Harvey.
He was a laborer in Harvey and Bowman for a number of years before resuming employment at the St. Aloisius Hospital. He spent the last of his five years of employment with the Civilian Maintenance Department for the Air Force in Fortuna, N.D. He retired and returned to Harvey. On October 1, 1999 John moved to the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon.
John was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters since 1930 and was a past Chief Ranger. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1946 and was a past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1945 and served as a Post Commander, District Commander and District Chaplain for many years. He was elected State Chaplain of the North Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1998. He served with the Harvey Color Guard. He was a member and past board member of the North Dakota Right to Life Association.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Bartholomay, Enderlin, formerly Sheldon, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by brothers, Edwin, Arthur, Aloys, Frances, and Joe, and a sister, Gertrude Schmitz.
Interment at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, N.D.

William F. Strickland
Funeral services for William F. Strickland, 79, Fargo, were held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, Fargo. Mr. Strickland died Friday, October 1, 2004 at MeritCare Hospital, South Campus, Fargo.
William F. Strickland, son of Gilbert and Josephine (Sykora) Strickland was born on March 18, 1925 in Milnor. He enlisted and served in the Navy for three years during World War II.
On July 27, 1951, he married Lois Domm in Lisbon. He worked for the Red Owl grocery store chain for about 25 years. In 1970, he purchased a grocery store in Hawley, Minn., which he operated for eight years. Bill was a part-time rural mail carrier, then a full-time carrier. He retired from the Hawley Post Office in 1997. Bill lived on Little McDonald Lake, Perham, Minn.
He is survived by his children, Donna (Lewis) Lyons, Enderlin, Vickie Strickland, Fargo, Don (Mary Lynn) Strickland, Rogers, Minn.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor.
Hanson-Runsvold, was in charge of arrangements.

Cordula F. Thielges
Funeral services for Cordula F. Thielges, 83, LaMoure, N.D., were held Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Holy Rosary Parish Hall, LaMoure. Father Robert Smith was the celebrant. Mrs. Thielges died Monday, September 27, 2004 at Oakes Community Hospital.
Cordula Frances Kemper, daughter of Anton and Helen (Benolken) Kemper was born on October 22, 1920 at Beulah, N.D. where she attended school. In 1938, Cordula graduated from Wilton High School and then attended Beauty College in Bismarck. After her schooling, Cordula went to work in Mott, N.D. as a beautician.
In 1942, she married Paul Thielges at Wilton. From 1944 to 1981 they lived in Red Wood Falls, Minn. and LaMoure. He died in 2000. She was active in Cub Scouts and in her church circle.
She is survived by seven sons, Jerome (Gemma) Thielges, Bellevue, Wash., Ray (Linda) Thielges, LaMoure, Martin (Jean) Thielges, Bismarck, Mark (Bernice) Thielges, Ellendale, Doran (Jana) Thielges, Moorhead, Brian (Mary) Thielges, Adair, Iowa, Leon (Debbie) Thielges, Enderlin; three daughters, Colleen (Irv) McFadden, Pocatello, Idaho, Janel (Ralph) Blount, Boise, Idaho, and Ellen (Bryan) Schulz, Bismarck; 28 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Celestine (Gordon) Babbitt, Groves, Texas; two brother-in-laws, Jim (Patty) Thielges and Rich (Jeannie) Thielges, and a sister-in-law Lorraine (Bob) Kauphsman. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, and a brother Edward Kemper.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Toby Thielges, Brett Thielges, Emily Thielges, Nikki Thielges, Travis Thielges, Jason Thielges, Brent Thielges and Trent Thielges. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Music was provided by Heidi Thielges and Gwen Thielges and Norm and Sue Goehring will provide special music for the service.
Interment at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, LaMoure.

Lawrence G. Dick, Jr.
Funeral services for Lawrence G. Dick, Jr., 65, Englevale, were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Englevale. Reverend David Isaacson officiated. Mr. Dick died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in rural Gwinner.
Lawrence G. Dick, son of Lawrence and Ruby (Hallquist) Dick was born on September 3, 1939 in Lisbon. He attended Elliott School and graduated from Lisbon High School. He attended Concordia College. He served in the National Guard.
On June 23, 1962, he married Barbara Haugen.
On February 18, 1999 he married Lori Fladhammer in Lisbon. Larry farmed near Englevale. He was president of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Englevale.
He is survived by his wife, Lori, Englevale; three daughters, Lhonda (Bob) Lewis, Fargo; Liesa Gisvold, Fargo, Jennifer Dickson, Fargo; five grandchildren; three brothers, Harold (Berniece), Englevale, James (Millie) Englevale, Gerald (Shelby), Cormorant Village, Minn.; and one sister, Mary Jo Urseth, Ridgecrest, Calif. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Hanson and Jeanne Dick and a grandson.
Honorary pallbearers for the funeral were all in attendance.
Music was provided by organist Marlys Herring.

Orville J. Ellingson
Funeral services for Orville J. Ellingson, 90, Fargo, were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the Hickson Lutheran Church, Hickson, N.D. Mr. Ellingson died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Fargo.
Orville J. Ellingson, son of Otto and Julia Ellingson was born on September 25, 1914 in the Fort Ransom-Kathryn area. He received his education at a rural elementary school.
In 1938, he married Irene Egge. They lived in Christine, N.D. where he had a repair shop. During WWII Orville was a supervisor at Dakota Tractor and Equipment. In 1950, the couple moved to rural Hickson, where he farmed for several years. He started a Consulting and Services business selling and installing furnaces. In 1961, Orville started teaching basic mechanics at Wahpeton State School of Science and five years later he became an electrician and had his own business until his retirement.
Orville was involved in the community serving on the Pleasant Township board and was a member, Sunday School teacher and board officer of Hickson Lutheran Church congregation. He was actively involved with the WMSTR and served as Master of Ceremonies of the evening entertainment for 21 years. He was a member of a band called the Bonanza Steamers that entertained at Senior Citizen facilities. Irene died October 5, 1987.
Orville married Mae Koester in 1989.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (David) Shander, Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Grant (Doris), Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his brothers Carl and Stanley; his sister Louise; and one nephew.
Interment at North Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hickson.
