Paul Hruby
Funeral services for Paul Hruby, 81, Wilton, ND, were held on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at St’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Wilton. Fr. George Pruys officiated, with Paul Patrick, Sr. as the cantor. Mr. Hruby died January 12 in a Bismarck hospital.
Paul Hruby, son of John and Ksenka (Polensky) Hruby, was born April 19, 1924 in Wilton. He attended grade school at Wilton Township School #1 and graduated from Wilton Public High School in 1942. Paul was baptized, confirmed at St’s Peter and Paul Ukranian Catholic Church, Wilton.
On June 23, 1945, he married Marjorie Mae Leben of Wilton. Paul farmed and ranched all his life, northeast of Wilton. He was a lifetime member of St’s Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and was also a member of the Wilton Lions Club, Wilson Township Board supervisor, and Wilson Township School Board.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; six children, Mary (Everett) Olson, Minot, Barbara Bartholomay, Enderlin, Kathleen (Dennis) Draper, Walnut, IL, Douglas (Kathleen) Hruby, Bismarck, Laurence (Lori) Hruby, Beulah, and Joan (Ted) Jirik, Fargo; two sisters, Martha (Gerald) Kemmet, Jamestown, and Katherine Anderson, Wilton; two brothers, Joe (Evelyn) Hruby, Bismarck, and Herman Hruby, Aberdeen, SD; nineteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas John; six brothers, Steve, William, Mike, Peter, Alex, and Harry, and one sister Mary.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Kaleb Hruby, Jason Draper, Erik Olson, Aaron Bartholomay, Justin Feil, and Samuel Bartholomay.
Interment at St’s Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Wilton.
Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck, was in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Irene Officer
Gertrude Irene Officer, 99, Nortonville, ND, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown, ND.
Gertrude, daughter of O. Ralph and Florence (Fay) Bennett, was born September 30, 1906 at Jud, ND. She was raised and attended school in Jud, graduating from Jud High School in 1925. She worked at the Jud Post Office and at Wilki-Boardman Groceries & Meats in Diesem, ND.
On August 30, 1934, she married Harold Officer at Jud. They moved to Franklin, ND in 1935, where Harold managed the Cargill Elevator. In 1939, they moved to Nortonville, where Harold managed the elevator and was the station master for the Midland Continental Railroad. Gertrude managed the railroad depot. They retired in 1970 and continued to live in Nortonville. Harold died on February 25, 1996. In January of 2001, Gertrude entered Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown. Gertrude was a member of the Nortonville Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Lindgren, Nortonville; two sons, Ralph (Syrie) Officer, Coon Rapids, MN, and James (Esther) Officer, Gwinner; one daughter-in-law, Diane Officer Galloway, Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Helen Marchus, Walnut Creek, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Gordon, and three brothers.
Lisko Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Eldora Rasmussen Whitney
Eldora Rasmussen Whitney, 81, Seattle, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005.
Eldora Rasmussen Whitney, daughter of Nels and Clara (Thomsen) Rasmussen, was born on May 23, 1924 in Montana. The family moved back to North Dakota when she was three years old. Eldora attended school in Elliot and Lisbon. She worked for several families in and around Elliot as she was growing up.
Eldora and her sister Pearl moved to Seattle, WA, where she met her husband Robert Whitney. They raised three children.
She is survived by daughter Patricia (Richard) Sherman, Modesto, CA; son Ryan, Seattle; a brother Allen Rasmussen, Fort Ransom; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Dr. Gerald W. Brekke
The funeral for Dr. Gerald W. Brekke, St. Peter, MN, formerly of Milnor, ND, was held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor. Burial was at the Concordia Cemetery, near Milnor.
Gerald Wayne Brekke was born September 1, 1922 at Fergus Falls, MN, to Arthur and Ellen (Mathieson) Brekke, who farmed near Milnor. After graduating from high school, he attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. During World War II, Gerald served as an Airman in the 8th Army Air Force, and was assigned to Allied Headquarters as a reporter to an elite unit at the Stars and Stripes.
While stationed in England, he met Rosemary Peters, who served in the Royal Air Force. They were married November 29, 1945, at St. Lawrence Church in London. In 1946, they moved to Milnor where they farmed and started a family. Gerald was also owner and editor of the local newspaper, The Sargent County Teller in the 1940s.
Gerald was later superintendent of several schools in North Dakota and Kennedy, MN before earning a master’s degree from USC, Los Angeles, in 1958. Dr. Brekke joined the faculty of Gustavus Adolphus College in 1962, having earned an Ed.D. from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He also taught for two years at the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND.
Gerald was instrumental in establishing a Center for Southern Black Educators at Tulane University on behalf of the Ford Foundation, and as the assistant secretary of defense in charge of the Defense Overseas Dependents School system. Following his retirement in 1987, Gerald developed real estate in the St. Peter, MN area.
Gerald died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at his residence in St. Peter. He was 83 years old.
He is survived by his brother, Roger (Sharon) Brekke, Lisbon, ND; six children, Wayne (Sandy) Brekke, Mankato, MN, Susan (David) Benson, Aitkin, MN, Sandra Brekke, Albany, NY, William (Jeanny) Brekke, Beijing, China, Melissa Brekke Speiss, St. Peter, MN, and John Brekke, Hermosa Beach, CA; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ellen; his wife, Rosemary, and a sister, Sonja Gulleson.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Larry Moxness, John Lunneborg, Gene Johnson, Dan Krause, Edwin Erickson Sr., and Curt Mahler. Larry Moxness was soloist and Kim Mund organist for the service.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Gerald Brekke Scholarship in Education at Gustavus Adolphus College, 800-726-6192. Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor, was in charge of arrangements.

Leslie Brown
Funeral services for Leslie Brown, 82, Cogswell, ND, were held on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cogswell. Rev. Steve Olson officiated. Mr. Brown died Saturday, April 1 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center, Forman, ND.
Leslie Paul Brown, son of Daniel A. and Luella M. (Gullickson) Brown, was born September 25, 1923 at Lisbon, ND. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On July 1, 1944 he married Florence Garland. They made their home in Oakes, ND, where he was an electrician. In 1950, they moved to Cogswell, where he was engaged in Les Brown Trucking and his “treasures” business. After retiring from his trucking business, he worked for a number of years at Melroe in Gwinner.
Leslie was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Laurence Milton Berg Post #38 of the American Legion in Cogswell, and the Cogswell Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Brown, Cogswell; one son, Clifton (Beate) Brown, Dawson, TX; two daughters, Fern (Lamar) Stone, Greenville, MS and Paulette Anderson, West Fargo, ND; his mother, Luella Gullickson Brown, Four Seasons Healthcare Center, Forman; three sisters, Dorothy Culp, Cogswell, Mary DeBoer, Sioux Falls, SD, and Ethel (Thomas) Oxtoby, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Leslie’s nephews. Honorary pallbearers were his family and friends.
Music was provided by organist Judy Ringdahl and soloist Terry Price.
Military honors by Laurence Milton Berg Post #38 of the American Legion, Cogswell.
Interment at Sargent Cemetery.
Price Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Darrel C. Willprecht
Funeral services for Darrel C. “Pete” Willprecht, 85, were held on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Forman, ND. Rev. Mary Wallum officiated. Mr. Willprecht died Thursday, March 30 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Darrel Carl “Pete” Willprecht, son of Emil and Maria “Mary” (Helmer) Willprecht, was born August 4, 1920 near Hillhead, SD. As a child, he moved with his family to the Cayuga and Forman, ND areas, where he attended school. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Britton, SD. After receiving his education, Darrel farmed southwest of Forman.
On April 10, 1950, he married Helen Lucille Volkers at Webster, SD. They continued farming southwest of Forman, and later farmed near Milnor and Rutland, ND before settling on a farm north of Forman in 1960. He owned and operated a salvage business. He was also well known in the area as a sheep-sheerer, custom combiner, and had moved several homes, as well as worked in construction. He and Helen moved to Oakes, ND in 1999, and resided there since that time.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Willprecht, Oakes; eight daughters, Crystal (Loren) Gladback, Lidgerwood, ND, Gloryie (Joe) Gregor, Milnor, Shirley (Bruce) Walker, Oakes, Rosalie Anderson, Staples, MN, Donna (Dale) Schoolcraft, Lisbon, ND, Marilee Nelson, Perham, MN, Bonnie Day-Willprecht, Perham, Heidi Willprecht (Chris Dexter), Perham; three sons, Bruce Willprecht, Oakes, Michael Willprecht, Forman, and Kevin Lee Willprecht, Forman; 40 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emily “Toots” Helmer, Lidgerwood and Marion Bohn, Sisseton, SD and three brothers, Virgil (Emmy) Willprecht, New Brighton, MN, Harvey (Eileen) Willprecht, Willmar, MN, and Lyle (Leona) Willprecht Sr., Lidgerwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; four other brothers, Ernest, Kenneth, John, and Wayne Willprecht; one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Lyle Willprecht Jr., Craig Willprecht, Jeff Willprecht, Wade Sukut, Dean Willprecht, and Rick Willprecht. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
Music was provided Curt Brownlee.
Interment at Forman Cemetery, Forman.
Price Funeral Chapel, Forman, was in charge of arrangements.

Randall Dietz
Randall Dietz, 47, Denver, CO, died April 10, 2006, at Porter Hospital, Denver, CO.
Randall Dietz, son of Ray and Clarice (Olson) Dietz, was born May 30, 1958, in Harvey, ND. In 1975, he was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident. Randy spent the following 18 months recovering at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the Anne Carlsen School, Jamestown, ND, and at Grand Forks Rehabilitation Center, Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from Fessenden High School in 1977, and from Denver Community College in 1979 with a degree in computer programming. He worked for Megalo Software Company as a computer programmer for many years. He also worked for JD Edwards.
He is survived by three sisters, Pam (Jerome) Held, Harvey, Connie (Dennis) Martinez, Westminster, CO, and Marcie (James) Wangen, Fargo; two brothers, Kevin (Cindy) Dietz, Gwinner, ND, and Kelly Dietz, Fargo; five nephews, and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Fessenden.

Arden G. Black
Funeral services for Arden G. Black, 75, Crandon, WI, were held Friday, April 7, 2006, at Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon. Pastor Bill Farr officiated. Mr. Black died Monday, April 3 at Crandon Nursing Home, Crandon.
Arden G. Black, son of Clifford and Charlotte (Bjugstad) Black, was born May 6, 1930 at Venlo, ND. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy as a machinist and served in the Korean War. He worked for a short time for the Soo Line Railroad.
On August 20, 1960, he married Wylene Walentowski at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crandon. Arden worked as a carpenter until he got a job at the Crandon Post Office where he worked for 25 years. He again worked as a carpenter until his health forced him to retire. Arden was a member of the Crandon Fire Department for 34 years, the American Legion, VFW, and the Forest Veteran Honor Guard. He was also a foster grandparent.
He is survived by his wife, Wylene, Crandon; daughter, Debbie (Donald) Kegley, Crandon; sons, Lynn (Tami) Black, Montello, WI and Barry (Lynne) Black, Crandon; sister, Evelyn Seigel, Moorhead, MN; brother-in-law, Dave Trevino, Huntsville, AL; brothers, Curtis (Lorraine) Black, Sheldon, ND and Howard (Lois) Black, Fargo, ND; sister--in-law, Eunice Black, St. Cloud, MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eddie Black; sister, Gloria Trevino, and granddaughter.
Interment at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery, Crandon.
Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon, was in charge of arrangements.
