Harry Astrup
A Funeral Mass for Harry Astrup, 89, Jamestown, ND, was celebrated on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at the Basilica of St. James. Father John McGinnis was celebrant. Mr. Astrup died Wednesday, Nov. 27 at his home.
Harry Astrup, son of Hans and Anna (Bertleson) Astrup, was born January 13, 1917 on the family farm near Fairmount, ND. He attended the local rural school near LaMars, ND, and graduated from high school in Fairmount in 1934. He entered the United States Marine Corp on June 3, 1942 at Fargo. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, and was discharged November 7, 1945 at Mare Island, CA.
On November 18, 1947 he married Aileen Keumper at St. Mary’s Church, Worthington, MN. They made their home in Fairmount, where Harry worked for a short time at the Farmers Union Oil Company. In January, 1948, he became the manager of the Farmers Union Oil Company, Wimbledon, until 1969. From 1969 to 1971 he was the interim manager at Lisbon. In 1971 they moved to Leeds, ND. He was employed as the manager of York Cenex, until his retirement in 1982, when they moved to Jamestown.
Harry was a member of the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown. Over the years, he served as president of the Wimbledon School Board, chief of the Wimbledon Fire Department, mayor of Wimbledon, commander of the American Legion, and was also a member of the V.F.W. and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen, Jamestown; his children, Larry (Jo Marie) Astrup, Fargo, Ken (Linda) Astrup, Jamestown, Carole Kiecker, Brookings, SD, Marie (John) Olson, Mahnomen, MN, and John (Chris) Astrup, Colorado Springs, CO; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters, and one son-in-law, Dave Kiecker.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Mickel Maruska Moore
Irene Mickel Maruska Moore, age 85, Fargo, ND, and formerly of Alice, Enderlin, and Lisbon, ND, died Tuesday morning, December 5, 2006 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo. Funeral Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8 at Faith Assembly of God Church, Lisbon, with Rev. Rick Holmberg officiating. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. Visitation was from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City.
Irene Lillian Mickel was born May 4, 1921 at Linton, ND, the daughter of Archie and Sadie (Peterson) Mickel. Irene was born into a pioneer family, homesteading in Emmons County, ND. Her youth was spent riding horse back, and never having a motor vehicle. She then moved into Linton to attend and graduate from high school there.
During World War II, she left her horse behind and went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA, to build airplanes. During the war, her brother Eugene Mickel suggested she write his best buddy, Martin Maruska. After four years of correspondences, they met when he returned at the war’s end. Martin and Irene married November 3, 1945 at Bismarck, ND.
Martin and Irene moved to Alice, where they operated Maruska Texaco Station and Repair Shop for nearly 40 years. Martin died January 17, 1989. After Martin’s death, Irene moved to Enderlin and later to Lisbon. She later became a resident of the Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo.
Irene is survived by one son, Eugene (Kathy) Maruska, Fargo; one daughter, Ellen (Denis) Gross, Enderlin; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Mark and Craig Maruska; her parents; two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral arrangements are with the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City.

Steven A. Faller
Funeral services for Steven A. Faller, 52, Lisbon, were held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon. Rev. Kirk Douglas officiated. Mr. Faller died Friday, Nov. 29 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Steven A. Faller, son of Ernest A. and Marlys (Krentz) Faller, was born on June 21, 1954 at Lisbon. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1972. Steven farmed near Lisbon. He was a member of the Lisbon Eagles, and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lisbon.
He is survived by his mother, Marlys Faller, Lisbon; sister, Connie (Gary) Martin, Lisbon, and four brothers, Keith, Kevin, Terry, and Randy Faller, all of Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Faller.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Jim Krentz, John Krentz, Jerry Hieggelke, Rick Mairs, Terry Thompson, Terry Loomis, Don Eppler, and Dick Elijah. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Peterson, George Thompson, and all Steven’s friends.
Music was provided by organist Jan Hansen and soloist Brad Lambrecht.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna A. Skroch
A Funeral Mass for Anna A. Skroch, 97, Hankinson, ND, formerly of Lidgerwood, was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hankinson. Fr. Matthew Attansey was celebrant. Mrs. Skroch died Saturday, Dec. 16 at St. Gerard’s Nursing Home, Hankinson.
Anna Regina Blazek, daughter of Frank and Mary (Vovcicka) Blazek, was born June 4, 1909 in Wyndmere Township, rural Wyndmere, ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school.
On October 14, 1940 she married John Skroch at St. Martin’s Church, Geneseo, ND. They farmed around the Lake Tewaukon area for six years. They then moved to the Tom Phillips farm near Stiles, ND, where they farmed for eight years, and then moved to a farm south of Stiles for 18 years. After that, they retired from farming. After their children were grown, they moved to the Mikesh farm site for five years, and then moved into Lidgerwood. After John passed away on January 4, 1993, Anna continued to live in Lidgerwood until 1999, when she entered St. Gerard’s Nursing Home.
Anna was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Hankinson.
She is survived by two sons, Bernard Douglas (Norma) Skroch, San Bernadino, CA, and Michael John (Kathy) Skroch, Lidgerwood; two daughters, Audry Ann Nesvold, Yucaipa, CA, and Sheila Mae Fillmore, Larimore, ND; one brother, Stanley Blazek, Wyndmere; two sisters, Judy (Walter) Klawitter, Hankinson, and Angeline Blazek, Wyndmere; 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Blazek; her husband, John Skroch; four sisters, Cecelia Blazek, Helen Wacha, Josephine Gannon, and Genevieve Blazek; one brother, Louis, and one granddaughter.
Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood.
Frank Family Funeral Home, Hankinson, was in charge of arrangements.

Gladys G. Bratland
Funeral services for Gladys G. Bratland, 90, Enderlin, formerly of Sheldon, were held Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin. Rev. Leon Zavadil officiated. Mrs. Bratland died Friday, Dec. 15 at Lisbon Area Health Services.
Gladys G. Anderson, daughter of Albert and Hulda (Carlson) Anderson, was born March 14, 1916 at rural Walcott, ND. She attended school at rural Walcott and graduated from Kindred High School.
On October 16, 1937 she married Vingner B. Bratland at Kindred. They farmed near Leonard and Walcott. In March, 1941 they moved near Sheldon, where they farmed until 1975. They continued to live on the farm. In 1996 Gladys entered Maryhill Manor, Enderlin. Vingner passed away November 18, 2003.
Gladys attended First Lutheran Church, Enderlin.
She is survived by two sons, Leo (Deborah), Danville, IL, and Richard (Betty), Sheldon; one daughter, Edith (Dennis) Mosbrucker, Dickinson, ND; one son-in-law, Wesley Myhre, West Fargo; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lois and Virginia.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Mark Myhre, Jon Myhre, Paul Myhre, Kirk Bueling, Trent Bratland, Shawn Kudrna, Ben Weinberger, Erik Bratland, Nick Myhre, Justin Myhre, Jared Bueling, and Jordan Bueling.
Music was provided by organist Farrah Billing and soloist Paul Billing.
Interment at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Leonard, ND.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret J. Aasland
Funeral services for Margaret J. Aasland, 86, Frazee, MN, were held on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at the United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes, MN. Mrs. Aasland died Wednesday, Dec. 14 at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital, Detroit Lakes.
Margaret J. Karlstad, daughter of Martin and Marit (Erickson) Karlstad, was born July 29, 1920 in Mayville, ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in the rural Mayville area.
Margaret married Archie Fauglid. They resided in Mayville, where they started their family. They owned and operated the Mayville Bowling Alley and Restaurant. In 1962, Margaret moved to Ada, MN, where she owned and operated the Norman Steak House.
On January 10, 1964 she married Arne Aasland. They operated the Fairway Foods Store in Ada and Hillsboro, ND for many years.
She is survived by her husband Arne, Frazee, MN; son, Gerald (Sue) Fauglid, Prineville, OR; two brothers, Hjlmer Karlstad, Lisbon, and Paul Karlstad, Portland, ND; three sisters, Pearl Swenson, Hillsboro, Edith Strand, Portland, and Ellan Ann Bolstad, Valley City, ND; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Fauglid; one daughter, Margie Horner; brothers, Lief, Edger, and Marvin, and one sister, Marian Filbrandt.
Interment at Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.

Ottilia Buchholz
Funeral services for Ottilia “Tillie” Buchholz, 89, Valley City, formerly of Fingal, ND, were held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fingal. Rev. Brad Edin officiated. Mrs. Buchholz died Friday, Dec. 15 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Ottilia Pfeifle, daughter of Julius and Kathrina (Marzolf) Pfeifle, was born November 5, 1917 at Danzig, ND. She grew up and attended school there, and then worked at various jobs in Danzig. She later moved to Fargo, and then to Fingal.
On June 7, 1940 she married Fred Buchholz at Ashley, ND. They made their home near Fingal, where they farmed until 1980. Fred died September 14, 1991. Ottilia continued to live at Fingal until 2005, when she moved to Bridgeview Estates, Valley City. Most recently, she made her residence at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Fingal, and the Messiah WELCA and Quilting Ladies.
She is survived by her seven children, Gene (Karen) Buchholz, Shoreline, WA, Ken (Alvina) Buchholz, Bismarck, ND, Stan (Marcia) Buchholz, Billings, MT, Tim (Peg) Buchholz, West Fargo, Jeff (Julie) Buchholz, Fingal, Judy (Roger) Sudnikovich, Sitka, AK, and Sylvia (Perry) Schlagel, Enderlin; three brothers, Elmer (Martha) Pfeifle, Lodi, CA, Herbert (Betty) Pfeifle, Castroville, CA, and Raymond (Rose) Pfeifle, Lodi, CA; two sisters, Pauline Schaeffer, Wishek, ND, and Ida Schmidt, Lodi, CA; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Interment at Hillside Cemetery, near Fingal.
Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, was in charge of arrangements.
